I dont have the same skimmer but I do have a Hayward with the same thing. My pool builder capped it from underneath and I would say if yours is capped on the top side, it wont be plummed into your system... I would leave it the way it is...

I believe I read somewhere that it helps with the small stuff the sand cant get? Is this true? Does it work? Our water is crystal clear but want to remove as much small partical stuff as possible... as well if it is possible, we have a 250 pound sand filter and how much DE would be needed? and...
