Wife is tired of me wasting money on equipment ...

I think you may have missed it, he's using a Taylor kit. But, yeah those #'s do look a little too accurate, you estimating between the steps, mthird?

    Spa draining into pool

Looking at your small full equipment pad photo in the first post, and confirming in the closeups, the whole middle stack of plumbing should not be flowing any water. The automated valve is closed in all photos, and thus is sending 100% of the flow to the single right hand return line. At this...

    Flowmeter on autofill

You can get analog or digital water meters with digital pulse output for ~$50 and up (depending on pipe size) on Amazon.

    Dampening outdoor pump noise

The techno advancement that really drops noise level is a variable speed, or at least two speed pump. They're quiet enough where from 6 feet away I can't even tell if it's running when on low. At full speed it's still pretty quiet, certainly much less than the HVAC fans. What's generating the...

Polaris pump only makes humming sound.

Some capacitors are polarized, the ones for AC motors are not.

    Glacier Chiller Automation

I read the glacier folks are local, which surprised me honestly. Our humidity seems like it would be a good argument against evaporative cooling. My kids love 90 degree water though, so for now I'm leaving well enough alone ;)

    Plug broke off inside skimmer

Nice work. I'm sure whoever plugged them was working way faster than he was thinking.

Pulling my hair out over pump issue

Videos sure look like a suction leak. Did you check the drain plug in the bottom of the pump housing?

    Plug broke off inside skimmer

That builder done messed up. Crazy it took a year to notice, but at this point to get the cap out I'd carefully saw cut it into 1/2 or 1/4 (being careful not to cut into the threads) and pull the pieces out with pliers.

FREE Hayward Super II Pump O-rings, Gaskets, Shaft Seal Kit

That's a generous offer! If I didn't JUST do this, literally last night, I'd have been all over it. ;)

    Lost pump motor. What next?

I could upgrade to a VS, but back of the napkin math says I wouldn't save much more money on power than the 2 speed I'm used to. There's the cool factor, but I'll probably just swap it out with the same motor. Anything I'm missing on VS vs. 2 speed? Going to throw some liquid chlorine until...

    Lost pump motor. What next?

This morning as the storms rolled through and I was getting ready for work, we had a few brownouts. Pretty hefty voltage sags, popped 3 or 4 GFCI's, and ... apparently killed my pump motor. I didn't notice it when I left, but when I get home the pump is usually running at low speed and there...

Texas Freeze Damage - Post #7,254

Same story here, except we only lost power for about 16 hours and it was mostly daylight hours. No freezing of the pool surface, and I proactively drained everything at the pad the morning we lost power. When power returned I put the plugs back in, primed the pump and fired it all back up with...

What's the purpose of these two capped off pipes?

Best I can gather the pool is about 8 years old, house is 9, so there should be no remodel work. The small pipe definitely only connects to the skimmer suction line, I pushed the gravel aside enough to see that. It's made up of a reducing tee in the suction line, the horizontal section, a 90...

What's the purpose of these two capped off pipes?

That's a good thought. There was a dead ozone generator there previously, visible in the photo to the left of the Jandy RS cabinet. It was plumbed into the drain port on the bottom of the pump basket, doesn't mean it always was though. It's now sitting in the garage until I decide I've kicked...

What's the purpose of these two capped off pipes?

Hmm, that makes sense, just not sure where it terminates if that's what it is. I'll have to uncap the big one and blow air down it, see where the bubbles show up. The only "extra" port in/near the pool that I've found was what looked like an umbrella sleeve in the deck. The small one I just...

What's the purpose of these two capped off pipes?

Anyone know what these two capped pipes would be for? 1. The capped pipe directly below the puck tank 2. The smaller capped pipe near the wall, extending from the skimmer drain line (middle line on the suck side)

Hayward (H400IDL) Heater Stuck in Standby

The control panel button membrane can be bought pretty inexpensively, they're on Amazon for about 30 bucks (non-OEM). But, since you can switch the heater on using your Aqualink setup that probably won't change much of anything. You mentioned the display LED will change from 'standby' to...

spa empties itself into the pool

My one-way valve looked fine too, until I actually wiped my finger across the flapper seal and I noticed it had ever so slightly split. Replaced the flapper and it's been fine since.

    Pool Skimmer Question

I've got the same setup here, just moved in a month ago and it had me scratching my head. Floor drains run back to the pad, but instead of plugging the second skimmer ports with a cap they're filled with sand and gravel. I do not have equalizer ports.
