What is the effect temperature on chlorine consumption?

So this begins to fill in the picture. I quit using pucks years ago when my CYA was in the *hundreds*. I might look into a pump or liquidator but for now I'm going to make my routine every other day or so, and jack it up when I travel.

What is the effect temperature on chlorine consumption?

Every pool service I've ever had growing up or even in this house before I started maintaining has come once a week, no pucks. Crystal clear water during all bathing loads. I'm not saying you're wrong, but what are they doing that I'm not? Just using gobs more chlorine? I'm not sure how I have...

What is the effect temperature on chlorine consumption?

PoolMath itself gives 70-90+ as the range for TA. pH is fine but I am frequently hitting 7.8+ so I try to keep it on the lower end. I agree this isn't part of the problem, it was just a comment about the numbers.

What is the effect temperature on chlorine consumption?

Pool has been cloudy. Cartridge is about 2mo old and I cleaned it this past weekend (3 days ago). I SLAM'd the pool about 3 weeks ago trying to get head of the algae but I'm noticing that When I have the Cl up around 9.0 on Sunday, that by Wed or so it's back down sometimes to 3. Moderate...

What is the effect temperature on chlorine consumption?

Thanks, I'm familiar with the ABC's. I couldn't find any references to temperature anywhere so thanks for the info. I'll post up some numbers in the future when I can take readings 1-2 days apart. Edit: liquid chlorine; sorry I thought I had mentioned that.

What is the effect temperature on chlorine consumption?

I'm having trouble finding this information via search of in Pool School. I struggle a bit in the summer (Central FL, screened in 8000g plaster pool) to keep on top of my sanitizing. we have a solar heated pool and my wife likes it over 90F. We have compromised on around 86-87, higher and I just...

    Brown Discoloration on Light Ring

Just a quick bump of this thread to let you all know that the muriatic acid bath did wonders for my gross brown ring that an hour ago I thought was going to need to be replaced. Thank you TFP community!

    Ongoing pH vs pebble calcification

I've been a bit more lax than I should have been with pH over the last year or so (it'd be 7.8+ on the regular), not getting too high on the CSI but overall probably an average higher than it should have been (or lower, I can't recall -- not usually out of range but close). My blue tinted...

    Where's all my stabilizer?

I don't recall but it would have been in the late summer or fall 2016. It's a number that doesn't (or didn't?) move around much so I kinda set it and forget it. The prior year I had horrible problems with CYA because I was addicted to pucks and didn't know any better. Local pool store just keeps...

    Where's all my stabilizer?

Filled pool last year after refinishing to pebble and got CYA to around 50 (overshot some, really wanted 40). This spring I notice the pool is consuming chlorine a lot faster than I expect. Test the water and there's basically no CYA at all. Local pool store confirmed the numbers. I don't use...

    Spa jets stopped bubbling

Yeah I was just trying to clear the water from the air line. Would that naturally happen once the obstruction is removed forcibly?

    Spa jets stopped bubbling

I was pulling through the PVC pipe that sticks out the ground into which the air would normally flow. I have no blower. When I turn on the spa jets, water bubbles out of that pipe. So given that the idea here is to 1) remove the obstruction and 2) remove the water, I hit up #2 by vacuuming the...

    Spa jets stopped bubbling

OK, good to know. I didn't want to force it. I was pulling it through the intake side, in the yard, after draining the spa below the level of the jets. Make sense? I see what you are implying!!!! Hehe. Nah I don't think they are incompetent generally, but I definitely didn't expect this...

    Spa jets stopped bubbling

So I've just finally gotten around to tackling this and I have a few more questions. There is definitely plaster in one of the aerated spa jets :( 1. I can hand loosen the outer ring but can't seem to pull anything else off/out. The eyball is still on there and trying to jostle it loose with...

    Spa jets stopped bubbling

OK those diagrams are really helpful. So if I understand the jets right, then regardless of the position of my jandy valves, I should be able to blow air into the feeder tube and once all the water is cleared, bubbles should come out all 4 jets. This should happen regardless of whether my pump...

    Spa jets stopped bubbling

I've searched the forum and found lots of discussions about this topic but none has led me to success. Sorry if I'm missing the salient point of these posts but let me say what's going on: We had our pool resurfaced with pebble and some time after that was all started back up, I went to turn on...

    Removing unused gas heater

Hey folks, The gas heater shown in the attached picture has been installed since we bought our house 4.5 years ago. Best I can tell, it was installed when the house was built in 2001 and never used. There is no propane tank in my yard and no NG in the neighborhood. We have no intention to use...

StoneScapes pebble refinish 45 days in - observations and questions

OK, so what is the source of my murkiness and how should I clear it up?

StoneScapes pebble refinish 45 days in - observations and questions

So the drama continues. We had scaling due to my mishandling of TA and pH the first time. So we did another no-drain acid wash. 6gal of acid and it cleared up overnight. Ran the pump all night. This time we are using bicarb only. About 7lb of bicarb in, the water gets murky and doesn't clear up...

StoneScapes pebble refinish 45 days in - observations and questions

OK an update after somewhat of a fiasco. Raising my pH (soda ash) and TA (sodium hydrogen carbonate) as per the local pool store was disastrous. Caused the murkiness as well as tons of sediment and, ultimately, a bunch of calcification on my new pebble. Why do I listen to my local pool store...

StoneScapes pebble refinish 45 days in - observations and questions

Thank you, bdavis. I read this after adding a little more TA, I am now at: FC 0 pH 7.6 (but it climbs pretty fast) TA 95 (didn't go full blue until the 10th drop) CH ~400 CYA 0, presumably since I have added none. Will pucks get my CYA up fast enough? I gave away all mine last summer after...

StoneScapes pebble refinish 45 days in - observations and questions

I am adding TA increaser now, slowly. I'll test TA again tomorrow. As of right now, my pH has come up to around 7.3; I added a small amount of acid because at high CH levels I want to keep the pH lowish and it still seems to be raising on its own due to plaster curing. Yesterday the pH test...

StoneScapes pebble refinish 45 days in - observations and questions

Thanks, I don't have a heater so that's not a worry. I do have solar but that has been off all this time. Responding to other questions... 3. INSANE sediment is -- I can barely see the second step. Can't see main drain at all. Very murky. 4. I added about 2.5lb of PHplus ... Testing the pH...

StoneScapes pebble refinish 45 days in - observations and questions

From the original message, sorry it was buried in my big wall o text: At this point I'm around FC=0, TA=0, CH=450, pH=??low?? CYA would be 0 as well since I"ve added none, CC would be 0 too.

StoneScapes pebble refinish 45 days in - observations and questions

Hey TFP, this may be a long post so I apologize in advance. There will be questions at the end :) We had our pool resurfaced about 45 days ago with StoneScapes pebble/glass. Also did waterline tile at the same time with 1" glass tiles. It looks amazing and the contractor did a pretty good job...

Low CH but CSI in range ... dangerous for plaster in rough shape?

I just now saw this after I had added some Calcium, bringing my CH to around 270. I did drop pH to 7.5 before doing so but now it's up to 8.0+ ... is it normal for the pH to raise when you add Calcium?
