I'm new to this but doesn't the FC drop from shock level to the normal max pretty quickly in the day? If so, you should probably err to the higher end and then test for the safe swimming level based on the minimum CYA.

I've heard that throwing them away is so that you don't inadvertently increase your calcium hardness. To me, it feels like there must still be some chlorine in there.

It was indeed a nice long swim! FC actually stuck around 8ppm. I put in 2ppm at evening and it held overnight. So now for the final leg - see if it will hold good today! -Rob
