    Frog in pool

We get baby turtles early in the summer, and also the occasional frog. Totally normal.

    Every year same swamp

I have the same issues as you since I replaced my safety cover. My old cover was solid with drain holes down the center. Always opened to clear water with just some sediment on the bottom. Quick vacuum and ready to swim in a day or two. Got a new mesh cover a few years ago, and I now open to...

    Vinyl liner Stain/Bleaching or Algae?

Could possibly be wear on the liner from an automatic vacuum? I noticed that my old polaris vacuum would follow a pattern when cleaning the pool, rubbing the tires on the same section of liner. Maybe watch your auto vacuum for a while and see if it rubs on that edge frequently.

Opening up pool with mesh cover

Yup. Get that chlorine high. I also went from a solid to a mesh cover and have the same issue since switching.

Wanted: DE Filter advice from the Pros here at TFP...!!

Figured a few backwashes a season was normal. The pool and filter were here when I moved in (2004). I never knew anything else and the pool stores always said everything was fine. (Just add these bags, and this jug, and this powder, etc.......) TFP all the way now. A larger filter with less...

Wanted: DE Filter advice from the Pros here at TFP...!!

Using an old Hayward DE3600 here. 36 sq ft. 22k gallon pool. In NJ we only have about a 4 month season and I backwash about once a month. If my pool was open year round, I would likea bigger filter.

Pump sizing and variable vs two speed decision

I just went through this with my failing motor. I would suggest you download the pump spreadsheet from mas985's signature. You can compare different pumps on your pool and electrical usage / cost based on runtime and speed. You can also enter the purchase price and see how long the payback will be.

How to calculate change in head with lower HP pump.

Just going to update this post with my results. Maybe it can help someone in the future. I used the head loss calculations and also the pump spreadsheet. I ordered a 3/4 HP superpump to replace my late 1990's 1 HP failing superpump. Here's what that was based on. 22,000 gallon pool. Being in...

How to calculate change in head with lower HP pump.

Ahh. The system curve was what I was missing. Will be doing some calculations and checking out the spreadsheet tonight. Speaking of the spreadsheet, I read through that section before but missed the link. I agree about the turnover, was just using it for the calculations because it was an...

How to calculate change in head with lower HP pump.

Hello, I measured my current pumps vacuum -7.5 "hg, and pressure 15 psi, to determine head, 43.13'. The current pump is a 1hp Hayward superpump. Looking at the pump curve this puts the flow around 50 gpm. If I were to replace this with a 3/4hp superpump, the flow at the same head (43.13') would...

Stenner and ORP probe setup questions and thoughts

Hello everybody. Mostly a lurker here, but I did try this last year. Converted to the BBB method last year and tried chlorine injection. Was previously using pucks. Since this was a trial, I wanted a temporary hookup. My thoughts were the same as yours, except I screwed a 1/4" plastic...
