Closing an above-ground pool; Draining the water

I had a pretty good neighbor that let me borrow his shop vac year after year to start the suction to drain my above ground pool at closing time. Well, he moved, and I'm looking to see if there is a cheap alternative to buying a Wet-Dry Shop Vac. Is there a cheap little pump out there that will...

    Where Can I Buy Stuff?

Who can recommend a good online site that sells lots of pool stuff? New pool owner, so I don't know who is good and who isn't so good. If it matters, I'm looking for a sand/silt bag for a Pool Blaster Max that I don't have yet. Found that at Walmart.com, but I knew I wouldn't get lucky enough to...

    Pump Basket Cleaning Question

I posted this in the "Just Getting Started" forum, but deleted it after no responses. Maybe I'll have some better luck here. Anyway, is there a way to clean the basket in the device next to the pump without having water shoot everywhere? There are no valves on my pool/hoses so I can't stop the...

    Newbie with Sand Filter Question

Haven't had much of a chance to check it yet, spishex. Got some bad storms supposedly coming tonight, so it may be another day before I can troubleshoot. So, when the weather clears, and I figure out what an impeller is, I'll check! Thanks for the feedback.

    Newbie with Sand Filter Question

No, it was off. Would the water have stopped on its own? I was getting quite a puddle so I decided to put it back in the filter position. And after 10 minutes of running it after that happened, water started to trickle out again. Thank you for your quick responses, by the way.

    Newbie with Sand Filter Question

Duraleigh, Thanks for the advice. I just went to try that, and when I pushed down on the lever prior to moving positions, a very heavy stream of water came pouring out of it. I didn't know if it was going to stop on its own, so I let go of the lever (and left it in the normal filter position)...

    Newbie with Sand Filter Question

Got my very first pool up and running a short 21 hours ago. Had the pump running since I filled it with water, no problems. However, I just checked it again (3 hours shy of running for 24 straight hours) and there is a light but steady flow of water coming from the backwash drain. Enough to make...

CYA Powder Buildup on Bottom of Pool

Yes, it is granular. I'd say about half of it is dissolved, and I have been swishing it around with the brush. I'll be getting the vaccum out soon because there is other junk on the bottom that I need to get as well. I definitely will not do a backwash then. Thank you both for your responses.

CYA Powder Buildup on Bottom of Pool

According to the directions on my bottle of ProTeam UV Shield Conditioner (CYA), I am supposed to spread it around the pool. I did that, but also mixed it with buckets of hot water, then put in in. The kid at the pool store said to do it that way. It's dark now, but I'm seeing areas of the pool...

To Condition, or Not To Condition?

Thanks, gang. Yep, started printing out Pool School docs already. Yep, I meant CYA, so I'll go ahead with it. Appreciate the feedback.

To Condition, or Not To Condition?

Brand new pool owner here. Hello! This is the best site I've seen regarding pools. Anyway, I figure that my pool should be done filling in about 3-4 hours. The kid (and he was a kid) at the pool store said the very first thing I should do is add ProTeam UV Shield Conditioner to the pool, and run...
