First Summer as a pool owner - struggling to get up to temperature

I have a 400,000 BTU gas heater that is the equivalent of roughly a 120kw electrical heater. It takes about 30 minutes to heat my 800 gal hot tub through roughly the same temp range (20-25 deg f or 10-12 deg c). Not accounting for the many variables like ambient temp, heat loss, solar...

Does anyone else test FC,CC, and TC like me?

I wish there was a better way to test PH. I don't have as much problem with the shades of yellow as I do with the shades of orange/pink/red for the PH test. But that said, I pretty much use the FAS DPD test exclusively as well since I'm still fine tuning/verifying my timing for the new...

    What's your current pool temp?

I've been swimming since it hit 75 a few weeks ago, but yesterday evening it was 81! Felt great. Might be back in the 70's this afternoon after big rains last night.

    Frog problem

I can't tell if it's permanent yet or not, but we had 5-6 frogs living in and around our pool since it was build last year (they love to hid under the ledges of our waterfall) but since I added 50ppm of Borates 5 days ago, the frogs have disappeared. I did find 2 dead ones in the skimmer a...

    Question on Stenner system placement

If you get the high pressure pump, I doubt you would have any issue with the elevation change. Like mentioned above, you would have to monitor it as a leak in the pump tube/discharge line could cause your pool to leak into your basement if the check valve malfunctioned. I would recommend...

    Stenner Kit??

The pump comes with everything you need (20' discharge tubing, injection fitting, spare pump tube, suction strainer, etc) except the tank and a tap into your plumbing. If you get the high pressure pump, the injection fitting is also a check valve. On the low pressure pump, it's only an...

    Stenner Pumps

Re: Stenner Pump Size Here was my process.... Based on my pool size and 2 to 3 PPM loss per day of FC in the summer, I used PoolMath to determine I need about 36 ounces of 8.25% chlorine per day. Then I looked at the ounce/min capabilities of the Stenner pumps and determined I could inject...

Advice for new Stenner Pump for LC injection

Noted and thanks Tim. I don't plan on using both at the same time but wanted to keep the chlorinator functional in case I need to use tabs to bump my CYA as it gets low. I'll be sure to turn the pump off when I need to use the chlorinator or move the injection point.

Advice for new Stenner Pump for LC injection

Completed my Stenner installation and setup. Thanks to a picture I saw on Superair01's post, I realized my auto-chlorinator had a second 1/2 tap so I didn't have to drill and tap the pipe. Programmed to run 15 minutes twice a day. Will probably have to adjust that once I see what that...

    White buildup on waterfall

I have what looks to be the same rock on my waterfall (orange moss rock) and I have the same white scaling on ONE rock. Nothing on any of the others. Weird. I do not have SWCG and the pool is only 8 months old so I have no reason to think my salt is very high from chlorine. Everything tests...

    Why is everyone anti-UV?

My PB highly recommended a UV system as a supplement to chlorine and used the argument that it kills things chlorine will not and will help lower your overall chlorine consumption. I cannot attest to the fact that any of that is true after 8mos of owning and enjoying the pool, but I can give...

Salt Water causing slow deterioration of limestone retaining wall

In the part of central Texas I live in, our pool builder did not recommend SWCG because of the lime locally quarried and used in so many concrete products plus the limestone we have all around our decks and house. But last year when I was trying to decide, many here talked about using a sealant...

Advice for new Stenner Pump for LC injection

Thanks for the info rphpool. On your ET8, did you find a way to program the Stenner circuit so it turns on or verifies the filter pump is running? I hope I can do it that way.

Advice for new Stenner Pump for LC injection

Thanks Matt. I was thinking the same thing about the glue joint, but wasn't sure if it was a concern or not. My cleaner pump is on Aux 5 and when scheduled or manually turned on with the remote egg-timer button, it automatically turns the filer pump on HIGH 5 minutes before the cleaner pump...

CMP PowerClean Chlorinator or Pentair Rainbow 320

I have the Rainbow 320 and have used it since the pool was installed 8 months ago (kept the pool open all winter). It has worked flawlessly, but I'm installing a chlorine injector this week since my CYA has risen to 70ish in just 8 months. I rum my pump on low 12 hrs/day and only run on high 2...

Advice for new Stenner Pump for LC injection

Hey all, I'm at that point where my CYA has hit 70ish and time to install a Stenner for chlorine injection. I'll keep the auto-chlorinator installed in-line for occasional pucks as needed, so I do not want to use the 1/2" tap there. I purchased a 45MPHP10 (fixed, 10GPD) pump, 15gal grey tank...

Close to contract, Looking for Input...

I'm not familiar with the A&A brand, but our pool was finished about 4 weeks ago and we have the Paramount PV3 Infloor cleaning system. We love it! Only vacuumed once (the day it was filled) and haven't seen as much as a speck since. Well, the last few mornings we have worms that look like...

    New Pool Underway!

Very good experience. Although we had plenty of room, I liked how they took care not to disturb areas unnecessarily and we were lucky to have no substantial rain during the project, that helped a lot.

    New Pool Underway!

Here is the final completed pool. We still have some planting to do and they are coming out for pool school today (I was out of town all last week), but otherwise we are done and are enjoying the pool.

    Pool Returns

I'm not sure why (guess I should ask the PB) but we have one main drain (Paramount MDX-Anti-Entrapment drain) and 2 high flow safety drains (Paramount SDX) in the pool plus 2 SDX drains in the spa. I'm guessing the MDX goes to the leaf canister for the In-Floor cleaning system which is on a...

    New Pool Underway!

Yes, we had all the existing deck (covered and uncovered) sundeked as well. With replacing the fire pit and knee wall caps with the same flagstone as the coping and sundeking it all, it looks like it was all completed at the same time. We are very happy with how it turned out. We live just...

    Pool Returns

My pool is 380 sqft and I have 5 drains (3 pool, 2 spa), 6 returns (4 pool, 2 spa) and 2 skimmers. I think a lot has to do with the shape as well as size (round would probably need less returns than a kidney shape for example) in determining the returns and skimmers. The 5 drains shocked me...

    Bench Depth?

I will be testing mine this weekend, adult beverage drinking around the pool that is. :) While I'm at it, I'll do some research on our bench depth and whether or not it's conducive to adult beverage drinking.
