    Sand filter for Coleman pool

I ran my Hayward 1 HP pump on and extension cord for several weeks until we were able to get the electric to my deck fixed with no issues at all. It is not recommended but I just unplugged it if people were swimming. Sometimes you got to do what you got to do.

    AGP sand filter, after backwashing

Honestly, have never seen one like that. Mine just screws in and out. I guess for the time being, you could count 8 as zero and go from there. I just checked mine and it was doing the less filled thing in the pump again and the pressure was back up a little, so I backwashed again and the pump...

    AGP sand filter, after backwashing

My pump did the same but after back washing several times, it seems to have completely filled up. My pressure runs at a constant 16, so when it gets to 20 I back wash. I opened yesterday and have backwashed about 4 times already. The water didn't look too bad, but after slamming it, I can see...

    Classic

It hasn't been a great summer here by any means. Today is only the second day since the end of May that we have not had torrential rain and storms. Which leads me to this post. I stopped in my local pool store today to by a new floatie to lounge in. As I walked up to the door I noticed a sign...

New Pool Build -- 24' Steel pool

Our ground is clay also. Our pool was put together by an installer, but they just laid the sand right over the clay. Because my yard was so uneven the back of the pool looks like it is buried about a foot and a half. I did lay a drain pipe in the trench and covered it in rock and then mulch. I...

    New Steps

Yep, I've been around since my conversion from Baquacil to chlorine. And I've learned so much along the way thanks to the great people on this forum. I was wondering about the steps because some people said they floated and some people said they didn't, but thanks to this crew, I can channel my...

Thanks. I've been doing some research and there have been all kinds of great ideas. I guess I'll figure it out when they get here and I put them together.

    HAYWARD Diver Dave

I have the equivalent in Wanda the Whale and she does a fine job. I think you will find that "Dan" does a much better job in your new pool because the pump is probably stronger than it was in your Intex pool.

    New Steps

Hi everyone! I just ordered my very first set of steps for my pool. I have always just used the ladder mounted to the deck, but knee problems are making it more difficult. I ordered the Confer Curve base set. They seemed to have very good reviews. My question would be: Do any of you have these...

What value do YOU keep your FC level at?

I keep my chlorine in the 5-6 range. I target at 7-8 in the evenings because I normally lose anywhere from 2-3ppm's per day depending on the circumstances. My cya level is around 40, so that way I ensure I never get below the minimum. Since finding this site, it has worked for me for 5 years...

Can I get by with just clips?

The pool cover clips I had just wouldn't stay on. I found some kind of clip at Ollies, that is rubber tipped and clamped right on. Seems to hold it down much better than the cover clips did.

    Algae

My hidden source was also INSIDE of the ladder. The outside was constantly scrubbed and remained algae free. I pulled the ladder out and covered all of the tiny little holes with duct tape. Then I funneled in bleach /water solution in the bigger holes and let it sit for about an hour. When I...

New pool and chemicals out of whack.

According to pool math 3.6 lbs of stabilizer will only put you around 30ppms., so your reading seeems accurate. What you needed was about 6- 7 lbs of stabilzer, separated into two bags, then I think you would have been closer to the target you were looking for. That would put you somewhere...

Going Insane Trying to Clean Green Pool

You got it! Ordering the test kit is one of the best investments you will ever make for your pool. Read and re-read pool school. Take the time to read some of the swamp to oasis threads too. Fascinating stories! I started this method 5 years ago and rarely have to do anything except balance upon...

    Trying to convince others...Its tough

One thing I've learned is you can't make anybody do something they are not willing too. Some people are afraid of change. A family member of mine has a green pool every year, also. I've taken my test kit over, told them what they need to do and gave them the name of this site. The rest is up to...

Post Mistakes You Made Before TFPC

Biggest mistake for me was Baquacil. Used it for 2 seasons. Hated it. Went to the pool store to ask about converting. They sold me a bucket of pucks and something else, don't even know what it was. They just said to put it in and add a couple pucks every day, I should be converted by the end of...

What if I do not have a skimmer basket?!?!? Newby need help!

I never add any chemicals in the skimmer basket. Usually just add them in front of the return so they can be dispersed throughout the water.

    Deep Cleaning a Sand Filter

I did mine yesterday. Ive had the this sand filter for 4 years and never had heard of this. It took almost an hour. It probably could've went longer because the more I stirred up the sand, the more stuff that came out. After seeing the gunk I saw, you can bet that I will be doing this every...

First ever sand filter deep clean...

Update...One hour in and I think I'm almost done. I had to grab a wooden spoon to help displace the sand a little. My arm are to short to reach to far into the filter, but it seemed to get the job done.

First ever sand filter deep clean...

As most of you know I converted from Baquacil 5 years ago and found this site. Best thing that has ever happened! I never really knew about the maintenance of a sand filter except to hook it up for the season and go. Lately I've caught up on a lot of reading here and read about deep cleaning...

My coworker just revealed to me his method of pool care....

Yes, start up costs will be a little high. You seem to have a fairly big pool so you costs will be a little higher. I spend about $25-$40 a month in bleach. Depending on where and if I can find it on sale or cheaper. My pool is about half the size of yours. All my other levels stay about the...

My coworker just revealed to me his method of pool care....

If he's not testing, how does he KNOW he doesn't have a problem? My water looked crystal clear but without testing, I never would have known I had an algae outbreak about to happen. Luckily I caught it in time. It was hidden inside my ladder, so it was not visible. How does he KNOW that his Ph...
