Cleaning up my swamp is slow going as well, OP, but stick with it and take the advice of the folks here and you'll definitely get there. FWIW I deep cleaned my sand filter a few days ago and it's made a huge difference in terms of how often I have to backwash, and I even lost 1psi on my clean...

Flyguppy, my pool is 18x36, with a 10ft deep end (which starts to slope at about 1/3 of the length), and I can brush my floor just fine. Richard, yes, that's without the DE. After I cleaned out the filter yesterday, I wanted to see how it ran (clean!) overnight, and whether or not I'd get that sudden spike in pressure that brought me up to 20psi. Lo and behold, I don't. Now that the filter's clean and running well, I'm planning...

Sooooooooo I went out and checked the filter pressure just now, and that baby's holding steady at 10psi...incredible how efficient it is when it's not caked with gunk! :D I'm excited guys...my pool is just BEGGING to turn clear, it's almost there, now I just need a can, or maybe a 55 gallon...
