    HELP - Vacuum won't work!

We have had our above ground pool for YEARS. We just started it up and filtration system is fine. Pressure at 10. However, we needed to vacuum it to remove all debris and when I got to attach vacuum to skimmer area, we lose pressure to 0. Everything worked last year. We checked for clocks...

    PSI too high?

We just started up our 15x30 above ground pool yesterday. We had a new liner installed after 15 years. Everything is clean, but my pressure gauge is ready about 13 to 14psi when it USED to read about 10 psi. Should I be concerned?

    Okay, stumped! Any Ideas?

Okay, let me ask you all this. Can you FEEL the suction at the bottom of the sweeper or do you FEEL the suction at the "hole". My bristles on the bottom of the sweeper are about 3/4 or 1/2" long.

    Okay, stumped! Any Ideas?

I originally posted regarding the fact that I seem to have 1/2 the suction I used to when I vacuum. Now the suction when I vacuum is great completely inside the sweeper, but technically there is no suction at the "bristles" of the sweeper. We have checked the hose, no leaks, no leaks in any...

Vacuum is now only 1/2 as strong as it used to be??

I know for a few times, there was obvious "sucking" sounds coming from the skimmer. We replaced the ring around the skimmer and there is no sound coming from it now, but the suction or strength of the suction is still about 1/2. Truthfully, if you just put your hand flush on the sweeper, you...

Vacuum is now only 1/2 as strong as it used to be??

That is what I am wondering...if the vacuum hose may leak. The hose is about 5-6 years old. IF the hose has a leak, could we tell it easily or see it?

No regular or relief on the vacuum line either.

Vacuum is now only 1/2 as strong as it used to be??

Yes, we have checked the hose for being plugged. My DH "reversed" the flow and it came out the sweeper part freely and pretty strong. No, we do not have valves on the equipment pad - it only draws from one place, which is the skimmer.

Vacuum is now only 1/2 as strong as it used to be??

Opened pool up this year, water was easy to get crystal clear. Pump seems to be working property at 10 psi. Everything is GREAT! However, when I go to vacuum the pool, my suction seems to be only 1/2 of what is used to be. I feel the suction if I put my finger almost inside the hole of the...

How Many Hours Per Day for the pump?

While we have our pool open now and THANK YOU to TFP, our water is crystal clear, my question is: How many hours per day do you run your pump and filter? 24x7? During the day only? During the night only? Thanks, Jeri

Already Posted Alot - Time for our Introduction

We are Charlie and Jeri from NE Oklahoma. We have had our 15x30 AG oval pool since 2006. This will be our fourth season. We built our backyard paradise in 2007. We have our pool, our hot tub, all surrounded by about 800 sq feet of decking that is multi level, overlooking our 13 acre farm...

    Pressure Drop While Vacuuming?

My question is - is it normal for the pressure gauge on the pump to go down while vacuuming the pool? When I am done vacuuming, the pressure goes back up to 10. I might add that everything is working fine - vacuums fine, etc., no leaks, etc. It is just that I noticed that the gauge drops down...

Okay, updated profile. Forgive me for not doing that sooner. Hope it is what you are looking for. Will be ordering the test kit you recommend. I have been using the AquaChem test strips. Do I continue to pour the liquid bleach in on a regular basis?

Re: ITS WORKING!!!! Pool is clearing up!! One last question Okay, what transpired is that the cover didn't hold completely and the debris from the cover got in the pool. Not much, but just enough to where the water turned icky green. There was alot of debris (leaves) down at the bottom. We...

Okay, I Lied - Another Question

Just in case.....what are the signs and symptoms that your pump and/or sand filter is NOT working correctly? Possible channeling of sand - symptoms? The outflow is good...motor on pump squeals a tad SOMETIMES, but otherwise sounds normal. However, JUST IN CASE....what is the symptom of sand...

ITS WORKING!!!! Pool is clearing up!! One last question Threads Merged for Consistency by Moderator. I took everyone's advice. The pool is clearing up slowly. DH just read numbers and TC and FC is high but holding since I put in this morning, so it had all day sun and it is still holding...

Newbie - Reading Pool School and I am Confused!

When I tested the water around noon, all levels were right on with the exception of the CYA or stabilizer (using AquaChem test strips). The stabilizer has ALWAYS been at 0 - even previous years. Still shows 0. However, you made sense on my question regarding CYA and Chlorine - perfect...

Newbie - Reading Pool School and I am Confused!

I posted on pool opening and closing about cloudy water. You advised me to read Pool School and I am. However, I am confused about the CYA in correlation to FC and CC = TC. If stablizer HELPS keep the free chlorine from being burned off, how can too much CYA require you to add more chlorine...

We usually run the pump 24x7 - just last year I found out we did not have to do that. So, about the last 2 months of last season, we would turn it off at night only - mainly just to save on the electric bill. It has been running 24x7 now since Friday when we opened it. OH - the pressure gauge...

Oh, yes! All the advice helps tremedously. Hate to say it, but I will read Pool School at work! Yes, I agree, I must have been lucky! I will use the floating chlorine or liquid? from now on. The floating device for the chlorine had a tendancy to get "caught" in the skimmer (probably...

The pump is a Hayward Power Flow LX 1 speed. I DO SEE a little (very little) seepage from the collar of the pump on both sides! How did I chlorinate the years before? I would simply put a large 3" shock tab in the skimmer and 1x per week a bag of 1lb shock. Algeacide 1x per week about 1/3...

New to Forum - Possible Problems With Pool Opening

The ONLY reason we dumped the pool water from the season before is because our cover blew off during a winter storm and several branches from trees took a nose dive into the pool. The year before, same thing - winter storms, ice storms, etc. However, the year before that, 2006, when we removed...

Hi, thanks for the advice. In answer to your questions: I really do not use stablizer - my readings have always pretty much been o. I have NEVER had a problem with keeping the pool water clear. Ever. The reason we used different types of chlorine is just to try them. The store wasn't open...

I'm so glad I stumbled across this forum! We just opened our 15x30 pool for the first time without draining and completely starting over (we have had the pool for three years). Truthfully, we have had no problems with keeping the pool crystal clear. However, this year, we didn't drain and...
