Intex owners: did you leave yours up over the winter?

Our Intex pool was put up in 2014 in Northern Illinois. We have never had a leak, tear, or crack in the liner nor had rusting of the frame. WE followed some of the recommendations on here for proper setup such as sealing the exterior exposed metal parts with an oil put on the first year the...

SWG not working, any problem using just bleach with salt levels at 3500?

Thank you. Sorry CH was 275, TA has always remained 220 or above, so I thought the problem was calcium. SWG was very corroded when cleaned but appears to be same after a week of use so yes, must be something not working. Turned it off, hadn't planned to disconnect until I close the pool...

SWG not working, any problem using just bleach with salt levels at 3500?

SWG not working well this year. I think because high calcium content in our water. I think there is no problem converting totally to bleach, but just wanted to be sure with the higher salt content in the water now. Last tests were this morning: FC 0 CC .5 PH 7.5 CYA 70 CH 250...

Great, assume it is immediate then and will allow circulation time (hope it goes down without though). As always, so appreciate it!

Shocked pool, water clear, now chlorine level too high. How to reduce quickly?

OK, I did notice my hand burned after having it in the pool at 22 chlorine level, guess I'm being overly cautious now. I have not covered the pool or ran the SWG at all since Saturday. I do have trees, so have been working hard to keep the seeds and leaves out of the pool. I thought their...

Shocked pool, water clear, now chlorine level too high. How to reduce quickly?

First, thank you for always giving helpful advice, so appreciated. I had cloudy water left from algae after start-up. Consulted pool math and forum so shocked the pool with bleach. Added per pool math, said 128 oz. in my case, but chlorine level shot up to 22 after shocking on Saturday...

Balancing after opening pool after winter shut-down, still questions

Thanks, again. I assume the FC level of 16 coresponds to the CYA of 40 as I note the chart gives much higher levels for a SWG but also the CYA is almost double. Pool math tells me to add 128 oz. of bleach and if I am reading correctly, I add that all at one time slowly in front of the pump...

Balancing after opening pool after winter shut-down, still questions

Thank you. I will use pool math then to tell me how much bleach to add. You said keep it up there and check every few hours, how long do I need to keep the numbers up at 16? 12 hours, I don't understand that. I assume I would not want to cover the pool during this process, correct? I do...

Balancing after opening pool after winter shut-down, still questions

Sorry I tried to edit my post after I realized the way I formatted the numbers was causing them to show up wrong. I did drain the pool down to about 1 to 2 inches of water, had algae when opened the pool; posted photos last week. I couldn't get the last few inches out, so could not get the...

Balancing after opening pool after winter shut-down, still questions

Thanks for helping me get started my first year after shut-down. I still have questions about balance. Some of my numbers are way high. I used pool math and will follow the advice. My question is about the high calcium and TA numbers. Here they are: filled pool 6-1, ran SWG 8 hours...

First year opening Intex AG pool after winter; algae? Please advise my next steps...

We did have a small sump pump we used to get it this far, but can not pump any further, probably 1 to 1 1/2 inches of water in there. I calculated how many gallon if 1 1/2 inches deep and probably over 230 gallon. We may try the shop vac, we have a 10 gallon, but hose on shop vac will not...

First year opening Intex AG pool after winter; algae? Please advise my next steps...

First year of pool use last year. I thought I prepared it well for winter, however, when we removed the cover, our pool was not clean. I have included pictures. It wasn't totally green. Since my pool is small, I thought I could empty it, brush it with bleach, then refill it. Wrong, I didn't...

Has anyone ever forgotten to remove their pool thermometer when winterizing?

First year pool owner, in Illinois where it gets very cold. We were so methodical about winterizing the pool, but unfortunately we forgot the pool thermometer was never removed from the pool, dah! We have the winter cover on, wrapped it in that saran wrap type plastic to protect from the wind...

Thank you TFP! New pool owner, no problems with your guidance!

:D I am so grateful to TFP for exactly that, a trouble free pool, my first year out. I am also grateful to the Intex pool owner who posted a recommendation to join TFP immediately, in his review of Intex pools. That is how I heard of you. I opened my pool in May and closed it mid-September...

In cold climates is a pool antifreeze advised?

I was told there is an antifreeze you can add to the water. I read nothing about that in pool school, so think all I need to do is drain water below lowest pump and shock the pool, correct? No other chemicals needed, right. All the winterizing kits contain chemicals, like clarifiers, stain...

    N. IL;closing INTEX Pool;drained below pump hole; did not shock;Anything else needed?

Hmm, good question. Normally I am so careful with chemicals, but the marketing took over here! I have no idea what is in it (embarassed) It says a clarifier, scale inhibitor, stain inhibitor, and natural enzymes. I don't know what is in it exactly. I talked to a friend who shocked his...

SWG has white build up; High TA

SWG has white build up; High TA

Temps reached 90's here yesterday, pool used by 4 people about 4 - 5 hrs; water temp 82 F. Cloudy looking today, just a little, but readings are as follows: FC 3.5 PH 7.5 TA 240 CYA 35 CH 350 Salt 3000 FC dropped to 3.5, from 5.5 yesterday, so assume the reason for the slightly cloudy water...
