    White flakes in pool

I'm posting for my in-laws. I don't have their exact numbers, but when they called me with them, I came here and made sure they were within range and everything was within normal range except the CYA and alkalinity. They added muriatic acid to lower the alkalinity and I had them add some...

    White flakes in pool

My in-laws pool is finally almost completely clear and everything is balanced except for their CYA (it's only at 50). They have a new problem though. They said that there are white flakes in the bottom of the pool. They have a vinyl liner. Any idea as to what the white flakes are and how to get...

    Adding shock to SWG pool?

SUCCESS!!!!! My mother-in-law has done what I told her to do. I guess my father-in-law kept going out and turning the swg all the way down and wanting to dump all kinds of stuff into the pool. She wouldn't let him and they FINALLY did what I told them to do. Saturday evening they turned the SWG...

    Adding shock to SWG pool?

He is in his upper 70's and knows NOTHING about using a computer, so getting him on here is NOT an option. He is constantly going to the pool store and they sell him hundreds of dollars in products that do NOT work. I can't STAND people that take advantage of others....especially the...

    New to forum....pool won't clear

I'm surprised you have no CYA if you've been adding a lot of shock. That's how I get CYA into my pool. Either that or stabalizer. Are you using bleach or actual bags of shock?

    Adding shock to SWG pool?

My father in law just got a SWG. I know NOTHING about it and neither does he. He thinks that it's going to cure everything despite me trying for the past 3 years to get him to switch to the BBB method and explaining that a SWG is not a cure-all. I guess since I'm a girl, he thinks I'm...

    Goodbye Dry

I saw this stuff at our local Walmart. Does anyone know anything about it? We use the BBB method. Our water is crystal clear, everything balanced and things going well. I don't want to add anything that may mess things up, but I do have sensitive skin that tends to stay really dry and I'm just...

How to vacuum algae settled to bottom without stirring it up

Re: How to vacuum algae settled to bottom without stirring i Thanks everyone. I'm just thrilled that I can clearly SEE the bottom and that the algae isn't several inches thick like it's looked in the past. It's just a thin little layer. :-D

Charlotte NC - Pool Closing Options

We ended up not covering our pool this winter. DH did blow out the lines and all since we get below freezing temps. We have a thin layer of algae on the bottom and sides of the pool, but NOTHING like we've experience years past when we've covered it. The only thing I wish I had done was maintain...

How to vacuum algae settled to bottom without stirring it up

We never covered our pool this winter, and I actually think it's the cleanest it's ever been upon "opening". There isn't near as much algae as we've had in the past and this time, it's a thin layer settled on the bottom. Is there any way possible to vacuum it without stirring it all up? I know...

Charlotte NC - Pool Closing Options

I live right outside of Winston-Salem and we still haven't covered ours. We've been vacuuming all of the leaves out once every 2 weeks. That's also the only time we've turned on the filter. I haven't added any chemicals since early September and our water is still clear. How? I have no clue...

How long to run pump? #'s good, algae dead, but still cloudy

Re: How long to run pump? #'s good, algae dead, but still cl Well, it actually took 3 more days for the water to get totally clear. Either way, this was the fastest pool opening ever for me. Yay! Thanks bbb members! :goodjob:

    Bleach Prices 2012

HAHAHA! They look at me the same way. I LOVE Aldi! I think I paid $1.18 the other day though. I usually buy 20 jugs at a time.

How long to run pump? #'s good, algae dead, but still cloudy

Re: How long to run pump? #'s good, algae dead, but still cl Well, I ended up adding some more clarifier and what a HUGE improvement from last night! I could totally see the bottom. The return also wasn't weak like it has been, so that alone tells me that I'm coming into the homestretch. I...

How long to run pump? #'s good, algae dead, but still cloudy

Re: How long to run pump? #'s good, algae dead, but still cl I am continuing the shock process. all my #'s have been great and are staying great. when I start to see the chlorine go down the slightest bit, I'm pouring in chlorine. It seems to be holding at shock level pretty well. I know my...

How long to run pump? #'s good, algae dead, but still cloudy

I have never had algae killed so fast like I did this year. Removed cover, water was dark green, started dumping the bleach in and by that evening, there was absolutely no sign of green! That was 4 days ago. #'s are perfect, chlorine is holding (I'm keeping it at shock level), but water is still...

    Liquid Shock from Ollie's

I just got a sales paper from Ollie's Bargain Outlet and in it, they have 12.5% Liquid Pool Tech Shock for $2.99 per gallon. Does this stuff have other chemicals in it that I wouldn't want? If this is just a stronger bleach, then I'm gonna pick some up. advice please! I just found the msds...

Green again and having a tough time clearing it

HUGE improvement this morning!!! Temp outside is 39 degrees so that helped cool the pool down and I'm guessing the 8 jugs of clorox i put in helped. The pool is now more of a cloudy blue color with only a hint of green. YAY! :whoot:

Green again and having a tough time clearing it

Thanks y'all! The chlorine isn't changing overnight. I'm seeing a bit of improvement as it was dark green and now it's a lighter green, but I feel like things should be changing faster. I'm not having to backwash much at all. I've been backwashing 2-4 times a day even though the pressure is fine...

Green again and having a tough time clearing it

My numbers: FC: 6 PH: 7.6 TA: 50 CYA: 45 I have been putting 8+ jugs in it daily and the chlorine has been holding well for the past 3 days, so what's the problem (I added another 8 jugs last night)? I've put over 40 jugs in since opening 2 weeks ago! The first couple of days, I had the...

Need to close but have major algae. Clear it up first?

The bleach was the Ultra from Aldi's. I'm going to buy more bleach and spend the weekend treating it the way I should.

Need to close but have major algae. Clear it up first?

So, we've neglected our pool since it's gotten cooler. Our winter cover had to be tossed because quite frankly, it was a piece of junk. So, we're ordering a new cover and need to close. My once beautiful pool water is now looking like pea soup. I thought about keeping it green through halloween...

    I opened early

They said we were crazy for opening this early with all the pollen still around. Well, I can deal with the pollen. I was soaked with sweat yesterday while doing yardwork and if the pool wasn't green, I would have jumped in to cool off. I literally thought I was going to have a heatstroke and it...

Opened to green pool and use BBB method

Ok...I'm a dork! I was adding the first bottle of reagent and not the second one that makes the test sample turn red. DUH! LOL! :hammer: Here are my readings: CYA <30 (I'd say it's darn close to 30 though because I could barely see the black dot at 30 which is the lowest my kit will read)...

    I opened early

I posted on Facebook that we opened our pool yesterday and all I got was negative comments. Well, we've had several 80+ degree days here in NC already and I was sick of looking at our torn up winter cover (we'll be buying a new one this year). I think they're all just jealous.
