    Need Help with Pump Motor

25,000 gallons. I replaced the pump motor yesterday. It took me about 2 hrs and I was not confident about my shaft seal replacement, but there have been no leaks yet.

    Need Help with Pump Motor

Cartridge Filter is 400 sq. ft. I only run the high speed for vacuuming and run the low speed (~6 hrs a day) the rest of the time for circulation. I am going to order the 1-1/2 hp motor mostly b/c I don't want to have to worry about changing the impeller and messing with the current set-up of...

    Need Help with Pump Motor

So, I need to replace my pump motor. It turns on, hums for about 5 seconds, and then shuts itself off. It's progressively been getting louder the past few weeks, and I was just waiting for it to die. I've tried replacing the capacitor, but it didn't work. I'm pretty sure it's the bearings. The...

    Rattling Noise in Pump

Any thoughts? The pump is 2-speed. I've been running it on the high speed most of the time, but I've switched to the low speed, and it seems to be much quieter.

    Rattling Noise in Pump

I have a Sta-Rite Max E-Pro Centrifugal 1 HP Pump (exact model unknown, I will look tonight) that, over the past few weeks, has been getting much louder and now is extremely loud and has an almost rattling sound coming from the motor area. After running for a few mins, the motor section is...

Sorry I haven't responded with pictures yet. My garage got broken into and all of my tools were stolen, so I've been dealing with that. My pool looks spectacular! I will try to post pictures tonight. I passed the overnight test last night and just need to clean up some crud on the bottom...

Wow WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I woke up this morning to a pool that I could actually see the design off the liner in the bottom! Thank you everyone for all the help! Continuing to SLAM until it completely clears! I think I'm up to around 40 gallons of bleach!

I just got an ammonia test and got about 3 ppm. How much more chlorine is this going to take?!?!?!

New Pool Owner With ZERO Pool Knowledge

The pet store didn't have an ammonia test. I've now put 10 gallons of bleach into my pool today and it won't register more than a FC of 2. Is it normal for the delayed ammonia response? When I first started SLAMMING, I was getting FC in the 10-12 range.

Another test: FC: 3 CC: 10 WOW! This pool is chlorine hungry! The way my tests have gone, it's almost like I had to burn off the algae first before I could start burning off the ammonia.

Wow, added three gallons of bleach and checked after an 1.5 hrs FC: 2 CC: 8.5 Something is eating up the chlorine!! Does this sound like ammonia?

Results from this afternoon: FC: 2 CC: 8 And the see-saw battle continues... My pump is a two-speed pump. When I am SLAMMING and running my pump 24/7, should I be running it on high or low speed? How do I know if the low speed is too low? My PSI at high speed is ~18 psi. At low speed, its ~3 psi.

New Pool Owner With ZERO Pool Knowledge

Checked this morning: FC: 10.5 CC: 2 Based on PoolMath, I brought the FC level up to 12 last night with bleach. It looks like it held pretty well overnight. Now I will hold the SLAM level and wait for the CC to come down and the pool to *hopefully* clear up! The Sytem 3 filters aren't that...

Added 3.3 gallons of bleach, and tested after an hour: FC: 10.5 CC: 2 I will check in another hour and add bleach as needed to bring back to SLAM. Pictures to follow! It could just be my imagination, but I feel like it is clearing up.

FC: 2.5 CC: 7.5 Will raise back to SLAM level and monitor for the next few hours. It was rainy/cloudy all day so I can't imagine the sun evaporated much FC. Since I am soaking 4 lbs of CYA in skimmer, I'm going to change my CYA level from 25 to 30 for this SLAM. Does this seem correct?

New Pool Owner With ZERO Pool Knowledge

I added 3 gallons of 8.25% bleach to bring the FC level up to ~11 ppm. I checked after an hour and the results are as follows: FC: 11 ppm CC: 1 ppm Does it make sense that after one hour of slam, the CC went from 5.5 to 1? I will check again in the morning.

Ok I added 3 quarts of Muriatic Acid. How long should I wait to re-test? Or can I just start Slamming? Since its ~8 PM, should I wait to start slamming until tomorrow afternoon when I have 4+ hours to devote to it? Or can I start it tonight, check it in the morning, and again when I get home...

And just to be sure, for my size pool (25,000 gallons), to go from 15 CYA to 40 CYA, I'd want to add ~5 lbs of CYA? I'd hate to overshoot on my CYA. And to answer your question, the black dot was gone when the tube was full in 2 of the 3 tests.

I've spent all weekend cleaning the pool and removing all the leaves and stuff on the bottom. The pool is looking more clear, but I still can't see the bottom in the deep end. I picked up a leaf rake and 15 bottles of 8.25% bleach last night. It looks like my test kit won't get here until the beginning of next week. I plan to scoop out all the **** on the bottom tonight. Can I start adding 1 bottle of bleach a day just to maintain the status quo? Is that a waste of...

What best to use for scooping leaves out from the bottom? I have a leaf skimmer. Do I need a leaf rake? I have brushed the pool multiple times and have used the leaf skimmer to pick up as much as I can from the surface.
