Don't have a picture of the old motor. Running standard 120v.

The 2 speed pump was PE71-III-H. I used the same impeller and basket, just swapped the motor. (I made this acct years ago and haven't updated my profile). If I run the motor disconnected from the impeller, should I expect it to not overheat? Assuming the mismatch is the problem.

I thought that, but my last pump was actually a 2 speed. It ran at 0.5 or 1.5 hp, so I assumed that it could handle it. If that not correct?

I picked up a used (not old) pump motor today to replace a seized up one. Was told that it works, but when I start it, it runs normal then shuts down a few seconds later. Will restart after a couple minutes. Seems to run normal when running. There's an audible click when it shuts off...

Mine would sometimes get a leaf, stick, pool toy, or just some dirt lodged inside. try cleaning out the opening and flapper while its running and make sure the little piece just inside the opening can move.
