Replaced capacitor, motor still makes humming noise. Won't run. Runs when shaft turned over by hand.

Any guidance on buying an up rated or full rated motor? Is one more long lasting than the other? I was going to go with 1hp. The current 3/4 hp motor I have is underpowered. I see things mentioned on the "full rated" like ball bearings?

The slightest flick of the shaft when powered on, it starts running and works fine.

Pentair #196237 Replacement pump https://www.inyopools.com/Products/00200017039446.htm I don't believe it has a switch as I don't see one when I removed the rear. My plan is to just replace the motor, just wanted to make sure I wasn't junking it for a small part. When I flipped the breaker...

Replaced capacitor, motor still makes humming noise. Won't run. Runs when shaft turned over by hand.

Have a Pentair single speed pump, 3/4hp. Flipped motor on, made a loud pop, strong smell. Capacitor blown, covered in liquid. Seemed like an easy replacement. Replaced capacitor with identical brand and specs. Still just hums when turned on. Motor shaft spins freely. Will start and seems to...

Are these cracks or casting marks on my skimmer?

The lines have a symmetrical quality, but they just seem odd looking to be from the factory.

Is there a way to modify a Hayward SWG to adjust the incorrect low salt reading?

Looks like I was able to answer my own question in a write up on this system on TFP! https://www.troublefreepool.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hayward_Aquarite_SWG By selecting T-9 instead of T-15 on the control board (I have 40k cell) that "fools" the system into thinking the salt reading higher...

Is there a way to modify a Hayward SWG to adjust the incorrect low salt reading?

My Hayward salt system is doing the infamous "low salt" reading when the salt levels are fine. I had the cell tested, it failed the test. The salt cell system works great WHEN I can "fool" it. Like I can do a hard reset and it pumps chlorine out for a day or two. My entire ownership...

Can anything be done to lower PH levels long term?

The current "middle range" drop test kit I already have measures Total Alkalinity.

Can anything be done to lower PH levels long term?

I think I'll go with one of the Taylor kits on Amazon if I decide to upgrade, but in this case, I think I can get by without.

Can anything be done to lower PH levels long term?

So just the TA strips are worthless not the salt strips I purchased? I assumed when mknauss said test strips are worthless he meant ALL test strips.

Can anything be done to lower PH levels long term?

Why then do you sell the strips? Strips (Borates and salt)

Can anything be done to lower PH levels long term?

TA is high at around 200, but I've been old you add muriatic acid to lower that figure. So I just keep adding acid.

How is CSI calculated? I only have a basic test kit.

Can anything be done to lower PH levels long term?

I've had a plaster pool for several years now (20k gallons) in Phx AZ area, and with the addition of a SWG, the pool needs a lot of muratic acid. I almost never had to do it with a fiberglass pool. I basically have to drop one gallon per week to get it into the zone. Is there anything I can...

Dropping Salt Levels on Hayward SWG

Just an update, so I've had 4 tests that all seem to show the salt range is in the 4000ppm range. 2 were the strips, both gave identical readings of just under 4000ppm. I also got an electronic meter that supposedly calibrated for salt water pools, that's also reading around 4000ppm. It's...

Dropping Salt Levels on Hayward SWG

That's my next step, but again, at 6 weeks (likely less) it seems crazy that so much scale could build up to make it so it was giving the symptoms of a dying cell.

Dropping Salt Levels on Hayward SWG

The installer set it up on a timer box to run for around 5 hours when the pump is on. I have the pump run longer than that.

Dropping Salt Levels on Hayward SWG

Yes, the cell says T-15 on the label. The current diagnostic reading are saying 2500ppm. Two salt strip readings are saying it is just under 4000ppm. The pool store said it was 3500 and that was before I added additional salt.

Dropping Salt Levels on Hayward SWG

Jim R. Thanks for that feedback. I'm starting to lean towards the salt cell readout on the wall unit being incorrect. I have some salt test strips and its saying the salt level is around 4000ppm. The pool store had a reading close to that as well. It just doesn't seem logical that I would...

Dropping Salt Levels on Hayward SWG

So I recently converted my 20k gallon pool to a Hayward AQR 15 40k gallon salt cell system. Everything seems to be working great, pumps out plenty of chlorine. In fact I had to dial it down a bit because it was making too much chlorine. But the problem is, the salt level seems to drop faster...

Does adding borates mean your pool requires less total muriatic acid?

I recently added a salt water generator to my pool and love it. But one thing this pool has always struggled with is high PH since I had the pool redone in plaster, even before the SWG. The SWG seems to make it a bit worse. (As a side note, I really regret going to a plaster pool, my...
