UPDATE. Took down my blanket tent today that was around the pool equipment and the valves would turn. Unwrapped the heavy blankets from the equipment. No visible cracks on any of the equipment or PVC pipes. Drained the pump and cartridge filter which we could not do after the power went out...

The pool water is crystal clear. In order to KEEP IT THERE, my assumption is that I may be putting in a little bit of muratic acid every day. I can get it down to the mid range, then it will creep up to 7.8, maybe hold there a couple of days, then up to 8.2.

Performed the OCLT test last night, lost .5 ppm overnight. The pool looks clear so I really don't think I have something eating up the chlorine. I'll continue with fresh bleach from Walmart and see where I go.

You make a good point, the bottles of bleach at HD did look old. If I went to Walmart right now, and bought new bleach, put it in the pool, when could I test? 30 minutes? Because I’m game for the OCLT test tonight after I add brand new bleach.
