    Deep Freeze in North Texas

UPDATE. Took down my blanket tent today that was around the pool equipment and the valves would turn. Unwrapped the heavy blankets from the equipment. No visible cracks on any of the equipment or PVC pipes. Drained the pump and cartridge filter which we could not do after the power went out...

    Deep Freeze in North Texas

Unfortunately we could not get the screw out of the drain pump but we’re successful with the filter. Thank you for responding I see soooo many posts so I appreciate you reaching out. Will try unscrewing the tops off the valves tomorrow afternoon.

    Deep Freeze in North Texas

Here comes another frozen pool guidance question..... ALWAYS run our pool during freezes, have had this baby 28 years and NEVER EVER lost power for 36 hours as we did in TX. Pool is off via the breaker, but we could not get any equipment off during the freeze (even hot pans of water did not...

    CH BuildUP

So let me ask, if one's PH is 7.8 one evening, the following evening it is 8.2 (or higher).....does scaling occur in that 24 hour period? Just curious

    CH BuildUP

The pool water is crystal clear. In order to KEEP IT THERE, my assumption is that I may be putting in a little bit of muratic acid every day. I can get it down to the mid range, then it will creep up to 7.8, maybe hold there a couple of days, then up to 8.2.

    CH BuildUP

High CH but Listening to Everybody Ok, here it goes.... FC 5.0 CC 0.0 TC 5.0 AK 70 PH 7.2 (It will rise.......) CH 425 CYA 50 CSI -.3 So the Stonescapes warranty is a -3.- to +3.0 CSI...... Am I okay? A little torqued about stressing about this pool all day..........

    CH BuildUP

I think the "care" is monitoring the chemistry and adjusting accordingly. Stonescapes will not warrant with CH higher than 400; that's why I'm draining it. Yes, PH needs to be adjusted, but no sense adjust right now if I'm draining 25% or more of water out of it. I redid my fill water and...

    CH BuildUP

Plaster is six months old, aggregate mini pebble and the CH has just been inching up, today is 425. My fill water is 300. I'm a little confused on what my goal should be when using PoolMath. I initially put a goal of 260, which then the calculator said I should drain 40% of the pool. If...

    Pool Crack

Rockwall Contractors works on pools, rock walls, outdoor kitchens. The owner is an industrial engineer and can provide a ton of references. Maybe worth a call. Not sure about BBB either, I prefer a reference list with phone numbers to check.

    Speedstir Mixer "Pill"

I lost the little metal "pill" that goes with the speedstir? Can I just reorder one or do I need to order a whole new one?

Is it a Blue Haven pool? We put ours in 1994 and our pool shape is similar to yours.

New Plaster - PH then Alkalinity or Alkalinity then PH Adjustment

Warranty says alkalinity between 80-120. The pool was replastered in April so we are definitely post 30 days.

New Plaster - PH then Alkalinity or Alkalinity then PH Adjustment

I do understand that PH can fluctuate for around a year while the plaster cures. However, when you lower the PH, you lower the Alkalinity. I have the Stonescapes aggregated plaster and part of the warranty is to not let the PH go above 7.8. When the PH goes to 7.8, I always lower it because...

    CYA Loss

Thank you. Based on this reply, I'll leave it alone.

    CYA Loss

Dropping Alkalinity Trying to keep my threads separate. Since I have new plaster, I am aware that PH can fluctuate for up to a year. It ranges from 7.2 (after I add acid) and slowly creeps back up to 7.8 -- which is ideal, but it seems like if I let it get to 7.8 and I don't add acid, it is...

    CYA Loss

I'm telling myself I've graduated from "Just Getting Started"....to "Testing and Balancing Water"....:) I've been using the TF-100 and managing the pool since a renovation in April 2014 (that was the fill date). I just tested the water with the following results: FC 5.5 CC 0 TC 5.5 PH 7.8 CYA...

    New deck heaving

I live in Mesquite. We had an original pool built in 1993. No problems. 18 years later, the back deck started to heave in one area. It was related to the extensive drought and the clay soil contracting. We've had a lot of rain the past couple of weeks but this winter really was abnormally...

    Heavy Rain

Thank the good Lord for 3.88 " of rain in Mesquite, Texas!! In anticipation, I bumped the chlorine up to 8 ppm last night. I carry a CYA of 40 and target 5 PPM on a daily basis. We had to drain four inches this evening because the water was up to the coping -- PH is 7.5; FC is 5 PPM, CC is 0...

    Large Swim Party

I've read where some have suggested bumping up the chlorine levels before and after a heavy load of bathers. My CYA is 40, I target 3-5 PPM chlorine on a daily basis. What would the figure suggested for a heavy bather load? Thanks!

    TF-100 Test Kit

For the FC test, of the powdered reagent, how much is a "heaping" spoonful of the blue powder? The small jar seems to go real quick or am I using too much of a heaping helping?

    Muriatic Acid

Is there a shelf life for muriatic acid similar to that of bleach?

    Frustrated

Performed the OCLT test last night, lost .5 ppm overnight. The pool looks clear so I really don't think I have something eating up the chlorine. I'll continue with fresh bleach from Walmart and see where I go.

    Frustrated

You make a good point, the bottles of bleach at HD did look old. If I went to Walmart right now, and bought new bleach, put it in the pool, when could I test? 30 minutes? Because I’m game for the OCLT test tonight after I add brand new bleach.

    Frustrated

Brand new mini pebble plaster. I left the forum two weeks with going to Home Depot to buy some stabilizer to get the CYA up since I had none with a total refill. I CANNOT seem to get the chlorine up and I’m super frustrated! I use the PoolMatch, add enough bleach and everyday I come home...

New Remodel - Where To Start

Plan is to get CYA in it tonight. Sock method, 56-58 oz of granular stabilizer, probably run for 30 minutes and then put in 116 oz, or 1.2 jugs of 6% bleach. Remove pucks. Run the pool 24/7 again until the stabilizer dissolves. From there, it's the TFP method which is under Pool School and...

    Organic Contaminants

Curious as to the definition of organic contaminants. I had a problem with my old plaster and yellow algae, we'd shock the pool, it would clear, then be back. I think our problem was high CYA since it had been 15 years since the pool was partially drained, but that's just a guess because I...

New Remodel - Where To Start

Do I run the pool 24/7 while those granules are dissolving? And to verify what I think I read, after the stabilizer is dissolved, get the chlorine up to 4 ppm as a target using bleach. Don't use the pucks until I determine if the CYA needs to be increased from 30 ppm as the pool gets sun all...

New Remodel - Where To Start

Pool was filled two weeks ago, I'm using 3 pucks in the in-line chlorinator, monitoring PH closely. I finally got the right test for chlorine and CYA test so I'm ready to move on. The pool was maintained by a pool guy, but I'm going to maintain it myself especially since it needs so much TLC...
