Installing Push/Pull valve for DE filter - PVC/ABS question

When installing a ABS Pentair push/pull valve to a PVC fitting, what glue should I be using? My plan was to use the Oatey red all-purpose glue on both fittings, and primer the PVC side only. Would this work fine?

First water test - CYA off charts

I brushed so much, my King Fin spring broke! The CC is now < 0.5 (almost no pink), water crystal clear and the FC drop is <1 PPM. Today was the 1st day where the FC did not drop as much overnight. I'm going to continue the shock process until Sunday to make sure whatever was in there is dead...

First water test - CYA off charts

Thanks for all the great advice, hats off to you guys I went ahead and removed my light fixture and found some particles behind it. Almost looked like DE just sitting on the bottom of the fixture. You can kinda see it on the right of the drain here. Lets see what happens next...

First water test - CYA off charts

The cloudiness developed when I was last brushing the walls. The pool was clear at the time and floor/walls appeared to be clean. Post brushing, the entire pool was cloudy and eventually cleared up on the shallow end first. It had also been ~2 weeks between when I stopped my pool service to when...

First water test - CYA off charts

Cloudy water has now cleared up. My overnight FC consumption is about 2-3 PPM. CC is hovering around 0.5-1PPM. I'm going to backwash this weekend and recharge DE. With the pump running 24/7 and the expense purchasing cases of chlorine, this is getting to rack up quite a bill. Shocking is quite...

First water test - CYA off charts

I'll keep my FC at 20 going forward. Unfortunately tomorrow is a work day, hope things don't go reverse on me. I'll check it in the morning and after I return from work. Would it be OK to have my FC at say 22-24 during work days, to keep account for any loss while I'm away? My CC was back up to...

First water test - CYA off charts

My CC levels creeped a bit above 0.5ppm and have started to shock the pool. My deep end is also not crystal clear, which I cant seem to alleviate. I'm on day #2 of my shock, keeping FC levels around 16-20 and repeated brushing. I also changed the grids in my DE filter this afternoon, so that's...

First water test - CYA off charts

Thanks for everyone's help, this forum is pretty awesome! I added the required chemicals last night to bring my FC, PH and CH to spec and will measure again this afternoon. I look forward to the day when my pool is stabilized and maintenance becomes minimal. As for the 47 CYA reading, that was...

First water test - CYA off charts

Update. After a tedious drain/refill, here are my new results: FC = 0 CC = 0 pH = 7.0 (couldn't tell whether it was pegged low at 7.0, or slightly shaded towards 7.2 TA = 210 ppm CH = 210 ppm CYA = 47 I just added liquid bleach and will test again tomorrow. What should I do about my TA? add...

First water test - CYA off charts

If I place my submersible pump at the deep end of the pool and fill at the shallow end, is that the same difference?

First water test - CYA off charts

I just ordered a pump from Amazon and will do the draining next weekend. Question - during each 33% discharge & refill, do I let the pump run for 1 turnover? or is more necessary? Luckily I just purchased a flow-gauge retrofit for my Jandy valve and can make some use of it!

First water test - CYA off charts

Will do. I'll need to find a pump and start draining away. Thanks for the advice thus far!

First water test - CYA off charts

I just purchased this house and have acquired a pool with it :silent: I know the previous owners were using tablets, not sure what my pool-man was using (I only used him for 2 months before stopping service). The pool is fiberglass - uses bleach Just did the diluted test, the CYA is about...

First water test - CYA off charts

Just did my first test using the Taylor K2006 kit. 9000 gallon pool FC = 13.8 ppm CC = 0 PH = 7.6 TA = 140 ppm CH = 370 ppm CYA off charts - about 1/2 way before it hits the 100 mark Looks like I'm all over the place. TA way to high, and I dont even know what to do about the CYA. Water looks...

Is my Jandy checkvalve faulty? flap halfway open (pic)

Photo taken below at full RPM. The flap does not open all the way up (maybe half way - if that). Are these suppose to swing wide open?

Pump recommendations - leaning toward WhisperFlo 2-speed

Thanks for the reassurance. I just started reading about the DE filters in the Pool School stickies. Unfortunately, I don't know what my baseline is and can't determine whether I've reached the 20-25% mark. I'll probably backwash the filter to be safe. My only question is, how much DE do I...

Pump recommendations - leaning toward WhisperFlo 2-speed

Minor observation I hope. When running at lower RPMs, the pressure gauge on my DE filter reads 0. The strainer is about half full at this RPM as well. However, when I set it to full speed, or something more quicker, pressure builds to normal (~1.5 bar) and the strainer is full with a minor...

Pump recommendations - leaning toward WhisperFlo 2-speed

I ended up purchasing a SuperFlo VS pump. It already arrived and I just finished installing it. Off the bat, I set it to 8 hours @ 600 RPM (BTW, it's only drawing 0.2kwh!). It's so quiet, I cant even tell it's on. Looking at the skimmer, it's not pulling any debris which is directly in front...

Pump recommendations - leaning toward WhisperFlo 2-speed

I didnt find the Maxflo but did find SuperMax VF, I think this is what you were referring to? I cant tell any difference between the SuperMax and SuperFlo aside from the black color. The small 1.5hp VF pumps run at 600 RPM, 1600 RPM and upwards. The 2-speed motor runs at 1745 RPM on the lowest...

Pump recommendations - leaning toward WhisperFlo 2-speed

Would the SuperFlo VS provide more energy savings compared to the SuperFlo 2-speed on the low-setting? The VS is a larger 1.5 HP motor (1.65 SFHP); not sure if that will cancel out the net energy savings. If I do go with VS, I get a $100 rebate from my power company. So the net difference...

Pump recommendations - leaning toward WhisperFlo 2-speed

I do like this option best; however don't know how to pursue this. Do I just purchase the motor, or would I need the sealplate, impeller, diffuser and all the seals associated with the sub-assembly?

Pump recommendations - leaning toward WhisperFlo 2-speed

I did a quick search on my current pump to see what it's rated at. Seems to be a 1.5HP unit. This has got me thinking whether I'm undersizing with the SuperFlo 1HP guy. Gut feel says I'm probably OK, but would need to do the math to see what I need. Looking at the power ratings for the SuperFlo...

Pump recommendations - leaning toward WhisperFlo 2-speed

I have a 1-story home. My plan was to run it on high speed when the solar panels are needed and kick it in low speed all other times. I dont use the pool much; I was going to bypass the solar panels for days I know I'm not going to jump in (25 out of 30 days in the month). The reason I choose...

Pump recommendations - leaning toward WhisperFlo 2-speed

First and foremost, there's a ton of info on this site and I'm glad I found it. Thanks in advance! I'm looking to replace my single-speed 220V electric guzzler with a 2-speed unit. I was initially looking at variable speed, but don't think I need it for my case. The pool setup is pretty basic...
