    Chlorine Levels

Yep, testing in the morning before add chlorine. Lowest reading in the last couple of weeks has been 5. I think I will remove the light. Would running a FC of about 10 be a good move?

    Chlorine Levels

I've had good results the last few months using the TFP method (and draining 1/2 my pool to get a cya of 45) and running a FC level around 5-7ppm. With the warmer weather and pool temps. of 85-89 degrees I had hazy water and some algae start about a week ago. I bumped the FC level to shock level...

    Cloudy Water and Mustard Algae

The solar panels and solar rings are a great combination! Rings are a bit of a hastle to take in and out though, all 16 of them!

    Cloudy Water and Mustard Algae

Things look very good. Water is crystal clear. No algae. Almost no OCLT. FC slowly drifting back down. Going to cut back on 24/7 filtering. Water temp. is 79 degrees. It took a while but it worked. Going swimming this w/e. FC 14.5 CC 0 PH 7.5 TA 90 CH 450 CYA 50 Thanks, now I know how to handle...

    Cloudy Water and Mustard Algae

After a several partial drains I went from a cya of 240 to about 50 now. Last week I noticed cloudy water and mustard algae on the sides. I had left the solar covers on for a couple of weeks (the 5' round ones from Leslie's) and did have leaves and such on the bottom when it started to go bad...

I'll do a CH test on the softened water and if it's better (it should be) I'll go ahead and use it. I actually was using it to top off before I drained half my water, but with CH at 1050 it wasn't going to do much of anything. A big drain was the only thing I could do. Looking forward to a much...

Right, I would drain off a foot at a time, replace with softened water. My softener has about 550 gal. capacity per cycle, and because it's a rented unit they supply all the salt I need! Just wasn't sure if there are things in softened water that I don't want in my pool.

Can I consider topping off with water from my home water softener? I'm assuming the CH would be better than the outside hose bibs. Perhaps there are reasons not to do this.

I think I'll drain more this week to try to get better CYA/CH, especially since my water rates are going up Jan. 1st. I know that CYA has to be diluted out and it's the same for CH? What would be an ideal CYA?

What a great site this is. I've been lurking for some time and learning, finally ordered my TF-100 test kit (with stirrer) and here we go. Bought the house a couple of years ago and continued to use the trichlor pucks until this summer when I switched to bleach. Knew from pool store tests that...
