yup everything looks fine.. when you clean them use a hose with a nozzle, and take each grid out and clean them. no need for a "chemical" or rubbing down, just water and a hose with nozzle... make sure to clean the filter with the open end on the bottom that way the water can "run" out while...

yeah like jblizzle says, are there any valves near the pump? if not, yes your skimmer line could be clogged... do you have alot of leaves? if it's clogged theres a few things we can try

when the pump is on, without the diverter in there, is there suction coming from the skimmer line? stick your hand down there and feel for suction

only thing make sure the filter is pushed all the way down in the tank before you start to tighten the top screw piece... also check for obstruction inside the channel in the lid, maybe gooped up lube or leaves etc.

just run pump if you think it is going to freeze that night, and yes need to fix the leak soon... like jbizzle says cut the pipes but when you put back together use a union for easy repair and easy service next time.

yes, done so if your water level gets low water comes from there to fill ur skimmer enough to keep pump a little wet

carsangels... the best way to do it is re-asseble everything upside down.. turn the manifold over and line up all your grids inside of it (paying attention to the where the small grid was) once you have done that take the bottom piece with the rod still in it and then line it up where the grids...

i see it both ways for sure! it's preference I guess... one thing we can all agree on is sand filters suck lol... and yes definetely clean the de grids once a year or else they will start caving in on you.. especially since most people add too much DE and they just get caked up causing more problems

it also depends on what debris is getting in your pool. pools with not many leaves or oak pollen etc, do just fine with a quad cartridge. pollen and dirt or dog hair etc. DE's are better and easier IMO... just need to backwash real quick instead of opening up the entire filter and dissassembling...

DE all the way... down here in the South pools are pretty much open year round and swimable from march - september, but heaters are common.. Cartridge too much of a pain and if you do ever get an algae bloom PITA to take it apart and clean them. DE just breakdown and clean once or twice a year...

lol thanks for the insight Family Guy! But I chose to use the Rainbow test drops and they have proven by HUNDREDS of pool service companies where I live to be effective at maintaining a pool just fine. Maintaining 50+ pools a week having one with an issue is going to happen, just doing the best...
