leak probably from the return line.

It costs a little bit but compared to a liner or just one hole opened in the wrong spot its cheap, not to mention the cost of water and chemicals and headaches.

Losing water. Can't find the leak.

You can use Atlas or A+B epoxy and repair it under water. It is rare the skimmers leak there.

Losing water. Can't find the leak.

Have a leak detection done, ask each company if they guarantee to find it. If it is a plumbing leak, the first hole opened in the wrong place would have covered the leak detection. If its the liner, compare the cost of the leak detection to a new liner. I cant speak for other franchisees or...

Pool is in need of some serious professional attention

Doing what I do, I see the worst of the worst. Your pool is far from the worst. Get it cleaned up and enjoy it a while. If it doesnt leak you are way ahead of the game. Congrats on your new home.

Losing water. Can't find the leak.

Its not a huge leak, 10-15 pinholes in the right spot could do it, so could a 1/4 inch hole.

leak probably from the return line.

All you have to do is loosen one of the hose clamps on the valve and watch the end of the pipe with the pump on. That sight glass will only show a very sizeable leak, the pipe would have to more than 1/3s full for it to enter the glass.

leak probably from the return line.

I would make sure that valve on the backwash line is off when the pool is running and take it from there. I did a leak detection on a large gunite with all the bells and whistles last year, tested everything found nothing. Maintenance man tells me it only leaks when it runs... Sure enough when...

leak probably from the return line.

Are you sure you want to run a sewer camera thru your pool lines? Lol! Joking, joking. It most likely would not show you what you need to see and then how does a DIYer locate a camera head? How is your backwash plumbed? May I see pictures of your pump set up? Leaking only when the pump is...

Leak started after pipe was cleared of clog

A leak detection maybe your best bet at this point, not just a diver with a dye needle. I have seen liners go over 10 years but it's rare. If the bottom drain is busted, well we know why.

Sorry bout that Bama and showybee.

Leak started after pipe was cleared of clog

It certainly can. I see where you are coming from and you are correct. Less than 3 psi to hold the roof up, that's a lot of surface area.

Leak started after pipe was cleared of clog

Average liner life is 5-7 years, it's had a good run.

Leak started after pipe was cleared of clog

Considering that 99% of the time when removing obstructions the other end of the pipe is open, ie not plugged no real pressure build up, I fail to see the problem or the "danger" frankly. I've blown golf balls, hot wheels, thermometers, undergarments and all manner of other things out of skimmer...

Leak started after pipe was cleared of clog

Ive seen them cause a great deal of water loss. On the extreme side 6+ inches, an inch+ per day caused by holes the size of a pencil tip. How old is the liner? Is there a bottom drain? Is the level of the pool below the cleared line and still dropping?

Leak started after pipe was cleared of clog

I have cleared many lines using compressed air, very common practice. PVC and it's glue joints are rated to 300 psi cold, no way he got them near that high with a standard compressor. Not saying it didnt break something, but I am saying it is unlikely. You said it is below the skimmer and...

Pool Has Leaked Out Since Closing

If the pool is already almost empty any way plug the drain. Then fill it up with a couple feet of water above the drain and monitor the level. If it continues we know the liner has a hole or holes, which is the most likely culprit. How old is the liner?

PLEASE HELP. Pool leaking 1 to 2 feet per day

What type of pool? Is there a light fixture? You may be able to tie the bag to the pool pole to aid with placement. You could plug the drain permanently, depending on the size of the pool it most likely is not needed, just make sure you disconnect the line at the pump also. You can let it...

Do you always replace a drain when replastering?

It really depends on how bad they are. The first company may have messed them up beyond repair. Can the covers be attached the way they are?

    Water Leak Specialist

I owe you an apology, I read the rest of the thread. I have seen pool guys bust holes in decks, replace skimmers, run new lines, install new liners and not fix the problem, the homeowner is out thousands and the pool still leaks. Of course it leaked before the liner was changed, why else would...

A step seal is where the liner is sealed to the steps via plates and screws. I would not pay until he finds the leak.

Spa drained into pool - new homeowner needs help!

The round clear sight glasses that have screws all the way around and no handle are where you need to start. Look at each one and verify the flap is closed and not open/clogged with debris. As long as the pump stays on and water is being returned to the spa you should be ok until you can have...

Not to be rude.... But this is exactly why you hire someone specifically trained in the industries premier leak detection techniques not a pool company, you get what you pay for.

    Trying to source a leak

That ring around the inside of the skimmer is just hold the basket, I have seen the skimmer structure cracked behind them but its rare.

    Losing water

Hopefully that fixes the problem. If not, do a 24 hour pump on (the whole time) and a 24 hour pump off test. Note the difference in water loss. Use a ruler taped to the pool to know exactly how much you lose.

I am betting its a step seal issue. My company will not charge you if I do not find the leak (Rare very very Rare). It could be as simple as a missing screw in the step seal.
