How to perform firmware upgrade on Pentair* controllers

I just updated my EasyTouch to version 2.190 from 2.160. I didn't really need it, but I wanted to see if they fixed whatever the issue is with syncing the time and date with the Screen Logic Protocol Adapter (that I added to the system 3 years ago). It has been a while since I last updated the...

Spa Booster Pump single speed Max-E-Pro Moter needs to be replaced - is VS my only option now in CA?

Thanks. I'll look at the EVQ165. If I run the EVQ165 at the Same RPM as the SQ or QC1102, does it still save any energy. I would hope so for the price difference. Also, what makes the QC1102 better than the SQ1102. The difference from the Century pdf I have shows: SQ1102: Volts 115/230...

Easy Touch 8 variable speed pump upgrade

Tom, Thanks for your post on using a replacement VS motor with an easy touch. I'm about to do the same thing for a Spa Booster Pump motor and if I have to buy a VS motor, I want to at least be able to control it with my EasyTouch8 (with the latest firmware - see the threads that discuss how to...

Spa Booster Pump single speed Max-E-Pro Moter needs to be replaced - is VS my only option now in CA?

I know there are energy savings with Variable Speed (VS) motors but I'm pretty sure the purpose of the Spa Booster pump is to run at a single speed (3450). Does it make sense to replace it with a VS motor if I'm just going to set it to a single speed? I suppose I could take advantage of the...

    Replacement Blower for Bubbler Feature

I currently have a Polaris QT blower from 2008 that pushes air for a bubbler feature in the pool. The motor works but the plastic brackets that hold it in place have broken which causes the motor to shift up and break the seal that allows it to push air into the pipe. The same thing happened...

Pool Cover for the CA Drought (ameba shaped pool)

In addition to the odd shape, I have a 2-level deck with a couple of small planting areas close to the coping. That makes an auto cover almost impossible I would think. I shade would help but won't meet the drought requirement of covering the pool when not in use. Seems a floating cover that can...

Pool Cover for the CA Drought (ameba shaped pool)

I considered a bubble solar cover, but I'm concerned the additional heat would cause faster evaporation. Is there anything out there that helps reduce evaporation without adding too much heat?

Clarification Needed on Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm SR400NA Heater Setup with EasyTouch

The Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm SR400NA Heater manual shows how to connect the heater using a 2-wire controller like an Easytouch. My question is not about the Fireman's Switch jumper. That's pretty clear. My question is about the position of a jumper (JMP3) on the heater's conrol board. It's shown in...

    EasyTouch will not keep time.

It's been 3 weeks and I just checked the clock. The date and time match my phone (to the minute). All these years, I've been misusing the "Clock Adjust' setting.

    EasyTouch will not keep time.

I think I may have found the cause of the time shift. It seems to be self induced. Under the clock settings, there's a 2nd page with the daylight saving time setting (Manual or Auto). Directly under that is a setting called "Clock Adjust". My assumption was that setting was related to DST. I...

    EasyTouch will not keep time.

I'd like to know if you ever resolved this. I have an EasyTouch 8 from 2008/2009. The time seems to drift and the date/year always drift or jump to the past. For example, I manually updated the date and time about a week ago and as I write this (see my post date) the clock setting says it's SAT...

sta rite max e therm 400 gas heater blows fireman's fuse when turning on power

I know this is an old thread but I just fixed a similar problem on my Max-E-Therm heater. jlgoode, you were very close to getting to the root of the issue before you removed the harness. Pool Clown was pointing you to the low voltage side of the system because the fuse only protects the 24VAC...

How to perform firmware upgrade on Pentair* controllers

Thanks jerryt. (Just assumed the link on Pentair's site would work) It's been a while since I've updated the firmware. I'm on 2.160 now but just added the Screenlogic2 protocol adapter and thought I'd check for any firmware updates. I saw they had 2.180 and while there's nothing that jumps out...

How to perform firmware upgrade on Pentair* controllers

Updated to 2.160 I just updated the firmware to 2.160 on my Pentair easytouch outdoor and wireless controllers using the same method I used before (see past posts). No issues. I also updated my old posts to fix the photobucket image links (photobucket broke the internet when they stopped...

Pump Motor Replacement Options (Other than Century)

I just replaced the motor, impeller and diffuser on a Sta-Rite Max E Pro 2HP pump (PE6EG-208L). The original pump/motor was very quiet for 9 years (until it started to fail). The motor I ordered was a USQ1202 made by Century (formerly AO Smith). The original Motor has A.O. Smith written on it...

Waterfall Plumbing Issue - Under Stone Coping and Concrete Decking

I found a video from when the pool was being built. It helps show me how the plumbing was installed. This way, if I decide to repair it, I can see where I'd need to cut the concrete deck. I captured a video frame to show it here. Seems like the plumbing was run more than a foot below the deck...

Waterfall Plumbing Issue - Under Stone Coping and Concrete Decking

Thanks. It may be hard to get a pool builder to take on a small job like this. When we had the pool built, the pool builder seemed more like a general contractor who hired the skilled people he's worked with before to implement his design. The waterfall seems to be one of the Pentair magicfalls...

Waterfall Plumbing Issue - Under Stone Coping and Concrete Decking

Here's the photo of the pump and plumbing. Is 2 HP too much if I close the valve to the leaking waterfall? The slide needs very little flow in comparison (note the position of the diverter valve).

Waterfall Plumbing Issue - Under Stone Coping and Concrete Decking

I have water bubbling out of the expansion joint between the stone coping and concrete deck when I turn on the waterfall feature. The pool was installed in 2008 so it's nine years old (I don't think this is covered by a warranty). 1) What kind of contractor would I hire to handle this type of...

How to perform firmware upgrade on Pentair* controllers

It worked!!! I used the 5v power from the outside controller to feed the connector going into the wireless controller. Both lights on the BDM came on. I ran the batch file and it ran all the way through without a hitch. It was nice that the Micro JST connectors were sold in packs of 10. Having...

How to perform firmware upgrade on Pentair* controllers

That's probably why I was never able to measure the 5V from the BDM ribbon cable. I measured the power from the header on the outside controller and it's exactly 5v between pin 1 and 6. I'm going to try using that as a power source to the wireless controller.

How to perform firmware upgrade on Pentair* controllers

I tried doing it manually. Same result. As soon as the connection was attempted using the 'connection assistant', the wireless controller shut down. If the NiMH batteries don't work, I'll considered building a connector that connects to the outdoor header without the BKGN and Reset lines...

How to perform firmware upgrade on Pentair* controllers

I Agree. There would be no reason to design it differently than the rest of their equipment. No it just ran through the sequence without a hitch then the program closed itself. It took a while (minute or two) for the controller to go back into a usable state without indicating what was going...
