Crazy Reaction when Testing for Bromine in Hot Tub

That's how I thought it was. But it's hard to test for CC's when the test starts turning pink again before you have a chance to add the 5 drops of R-0003. It's almost instant that it changes back to pick after it turns clear when adding R-0871.

Crazy Reaction when Testing for Bromine in Hot Tub

Yep, it has both UV and ozone. I just had never heard or read on turning pink again on that test when using bromine. I searched and searched. Thanks for clearing that up!! So no way to check for CC's or bromines version of it? Thanks for the insight!!! Much appreciated!!

Crazy Reaction when Testing for Bromine in Hot Tub

So, I've been following the BBB method for years. We built our pool in 2013 and switched over that same summer after finding this site (and after having multiple problems with multiple pool store runs). Of note, we have an older Jacuzzi hot tub at our lake house. The first summer we owned the...

Always Save Bleach - Very Disappointed!

For the atwoods chlorine, I don't have a bottle handy but the expiration was sometime in 2020. One of the possible culprits is that I noticed the seal on the bottle was loose. Not sure if that makes a difference. The seal on the Always Save brand was always super tight and I had to use a...

Always Save Bleach - Very Disappointed!

So I've been running tests on Attwood's "Pool Shock". At 1 gallon and 10 percent sodium hypochlorite, it should add approximately 3.5 of FC. I've ran a test bright and early the last several mornings and only getting anywhere from 0.5 to 2.0 per gallon...mostly in the 1.0 range. I've noticed...

Always Save Bleach - Very Disappointed!

Just checked and 1.99. I may have mistaken the price, because that's a big change from what I thought I remembered. Thanks again!

Always Save Bleach - Very Disappointed!

I have one pretty close, but usually it is 3.99 and sometimes on sale for 2.99. 1.99 would be grea! I'll have to check them out again, Thanks!!

Always Save Bleach - Very Disappointed!

I've had our pool for 6 years now and have used the TFP method for almost all of it. For the last 5 years, I have purchased Always Save brand regular bleach for 1.19 here at a local grocery store (sometimes getting 10 percent off my entire bleach order). The 96 ounce bottle has always said 6%...

How cold of water will you swim in?

Got in for about 20 minutes yesterday after work and water was 74 degrees and it was about 68 degrees air temp. Was used to the water temp in about 20 seconds. Prefer 80 plus will brave the cold temps at 70 or above. Really, anything at 70 or above is okay as long as it is hot outside...

Is this Algae or something else?

Rubbed some bleach and also a puck on the black spots with no color difference.

Is this Algae or something else?

Before it turns solid black, it's a bit smooth and can almost be removed by rubbing it with your finger (the residue is similar to removing sticky residue from a sticker). Once it turns black, it's hard and rough. I tested my FC and CC last night before I went to bed and my FC was 7.5 and CC...

Is this Algae or something else?

This black spots are showing up above the water line in random spots. They start off almost light black or gray and are easy to remove at that point. Once they turn black, I am finding them almost impossible to remove. The spots are slightly raised and become more prominently raised when...

New Hot Tub - TFPC Method vs. Bromine

It's a 500 gallon Jacuzzi. Our water rate there is 0.0023 per gallon, so $1.15 per fill...local water from the neighborhood well that is supposedly treated at the well. I do have a whole house filter that should catch some of the metals before the spicket. I've heard that when draining the...

New Hot Tub - TFPC Method vs. Bromine

It has a built in timer and circulates 4 times a day for 30 minutes each. I actually considered the drain and refill each time. Our water rate there is pretty minimal, but there is metals in the water and have to put metal sequestrant in each time. I thought about adding boric acid to help...

New Hot Tub - TFPC Method vs. Bromine

So we bought a lake house 5 hours away that has a hot tub. I currently use the TFPC method with my pool at my main residence. I just don't see how I can use that method there being sometimes it is 3 weeks between visits and being able to maintain the hot tub. As such, I am considering the...

Another Air in Pump Basket Thread

Well, I didn't work. But that doesn't mean it won't work for someone else. I really think I am having an issue on my discharge side of the pump as I am not losing prime completely, just getting air backed up into the pump basket over night. Not sure what to do at this point. I feel like...

Another Air in Pump Basket Thread

A few more notes: I am not losing water in the pool at all. And there is no water leaking at the pool equipment either when the pump is running or off. I almost wonder if this is a Filter issue. The pool company wants to replace the pump seals inside the pump, but don't want to waste the...

Another Air in Pump Basket Thread

My pool is three years old and I've never had a problem with air in my pump basket. So this year, got the pool opened and boom...air in pump basket. I've checked every union at the equipment pad. I installed a new o-ring and lid on the pump. I had the pool company remove the chlorinator...

Where Do REAL Pool Owners Buy Chlorine

I get 96 ounce bottles of 6 percent (off brand/store brand) at my small town grocery store for 99 cents per bottle. Really can't beat it! They order for me in bulk (usually 6 cases - 6 per case) at a time at a discounted rate since it is bulk (normally 1.19 per bottle). I would just ask...

Closing Question - Return Lines - Blowing Long Enough??

So, I re-blew the return the lines and made sure I capped the polaris line to ensure good flow to the two returns. I blew them for at least five minutes and the capped them. Still was only able to get 1.5 gallons of antifreeze in the line. When I unplugged them, they bubbled pretty good which...

Closing Question - Return Lines - Blowing Long Enough??

Yeah, if it wasn't for my autocover, I would just drain below the returns. I may open up one of the plugs very slightly and see if the antifreeze (that I can see in the return line at the equipment pad) disappears.

Closing Question - Return Lines - Blowing Long Enough??

I think I misspoke above. The return line comes out of the sand filter to a union for blowing the lines. Below the winterizing union the polaris line t's off from the return line to a booster pump and then to it's own 1.5 inch line. So essentially, when I am blowing the return line, I am also...

Closing Question - Return Lines - Blowing Long Enough??

The auto-cleaner line (looks like a return line) enters the pool just below the top of the water line for the Polaris cleaner. I guess I was a little worried that the line is most likely closer to 80 feet so it would seem more than 1.5 gallons would fit in there. I will say that when I opened...

Closing Question - Return Lines - Blowing Long Enough??

My configuration is that my auto cleaner line comes out of and back into (after the booster pump) the return line. I have two returns on one line. My problem is that I am blowing the return line and auto cleaner line (since the auto cleaner line is tied into it) at the same time. I used my...

Just put my deposit down (North of Kansas City)

One of our big regrets with our pool in Wichita was not adding more lights. We put in a 18X36 inground pool with a deep end. The big light in the deep end is pretty bright but it doesn't properly light up the shallow end. If we had the chance to do it over again, we would have put at least...

    Pool losing water after closing!

Well, after I tightened the skimmer gizmo and refilled the water a second time, it's been 5 days and I have only lost less than 1 inch of water from what I can tell. I'll have to open the cover to be sure but by looking in the skimmer, that's about what it looks like. Is it possible that...

    Pool losing water after closing!

I had a local pool company close our pool last Thursday. I wanted to close this year, but really wanted to see first hand how they blew the lines and will be doing myself next year. But back to the pool leak. Four days later, Monday, I noticed the under track cover was laying on the water...
