    Robot cleaner with larger pool?

Bought a 20 by 40 capacity unit, the Kleen Machine, for $350 from Costco. Covers the whole pool quite well. Especially compared to the commercial unit that Aquabot recommended and costs $2k+

    The Kleen Machine

I bought one, been running it for about a month. In cold water, it wasn't working that well, it wouldn't stay on the bottom of the pool - I'd find it floating on the surface. Now that the water's warmed up, it seems to work pretty well. Well worth the $350 when compared to the cost of some of...

    Robot cleaner with larger pool?

Anyone have experience using one of the robotic pool cleaners on a larger pool? Most of them say they're for pools "up to 20' X 40' " My pool is L-shaped, basically 20 by 40 with a 13 by 13 added on. One salesman I talked to thought the cord would be too short (which seems easy enough to...

Best way to reduce chlorine level

It's way high - turns dark yellowish orange on one drop on an OTO test and is well over 10 ppm on a DPD (didn't want to use up all my drops to figure it out exactly). CYA is also near zero. This is a covered hot tub. Nothing strange going on - neighbor put an extra cup and a half of bleach in...

Best way to reduce chlorine level

How can you reduce chlorine without sun? I need to get the level down in my hot tub, there's no sun here in winter, and I can't leave the cover off. I want to say you can use ammonia, but I don't know for sure, or what amount. Any ideas?

    What kind of algecide?

Some of the ads say things like this: Non-metallic, non-foaming, low-odor polymer-based algaecide. Polymer based = poly?

    What kind of algecide?

I need some algecide to do the abscorbic acid stain removal treatment. What ingredients am I looking for to get a "60% polyquat". I see products out there that say 60%, and have the word poly in there somewhere - but I didn't see the word "quat" anywhere. Thanks!

Ascorbic Treatment to rid Pool of metal stains

Has anyone tried citric acid instead of ascorbic acid, as suggested in the original post of this thread? It's much, much cheaper. But, if it's a lot slower - meaning your chlorine is low that much longer, maybe the extra cost is worth it?

    Hayward H250 Heater wont ignite

I have this same heater. Every single year, it fails to light at pool opening. Each year I step through the wiring diagram. Several years I had one sensor or another bad. Other years, it mysteriously starts working, and works all summer. Haven't tried starting it yet this year....

    High chlorine usage - ozonator?

I wound up keeping the chlorine another day, cutting back the filter (and ozonator) time, and then finally disconnecting the ozozator. All seems fine now.... Thanks for the help.

    High chlorine usage - ozonator?

I wondered that. You think I should try maintaining a couple more days at shock level? I should also mention that the filter and ozonator have been running the whole time.

    High chlorine usage - ozonator?

I've been fighting some algae and shocking to high levels for several days. The water is clear now, but it's still burning chlorine at a tremendous rate. In 10 hours, it burned more than 16 ppm. Reading some old posts, I found this tidbit from Waterbear: "Ozone will destroy chlorine but will...

BBB for hot tub / spa ?

I've been using the BBB method in my pool for several years. Can I do the same thing for my new hot tub? I'm ready to fill the tub this week. I was thinking about pumping water out of my pool and into the hot tub to start with. I know a lot of people use bromine as a disinfecting agent in...

    Removing Metals

How about if you pumped the pool water through a water softener and back into the pool? Would stains then get lifted from the pool surfaces and into the water as the water became "freed" of the metals?
