if you put the fountain on a separate line, you'll have more control over the height of the fountain because you can close off the return port. with it on the same line, the fountain is going to be a lot smaller because a lot of water is going to the return port.

brad, my only suggestion is have the pipes come all the way to the ground. halfway up the pool could be a safety risk for a small child that could climb on top of the pipe and then get into the pool.

no modifications are necessary; it comes with everything to hook it up to the pool. all you need are two bags of sand from the pool store and you're ready to go.

fortunately it shouldn't be too hard to fix. put one coming down from the original pool outlet and move the other valve to below the skimmer, but above the tee. you want to have it above the tee so you can close off the skimmer when water is low, but still have the pump running.

living below the gnat line it's a must have modification for me. i have the hayward skimmer, but i've seen the intex over the wall skimmer in action and it works good too. the intex skimmer attaches to the intake in your picture, the hayward you cut the liner to install.

i got the pump and pool last year. i've had it off for most of the winter, running it only a few times. it worked fine the last time i ran it which was about a month ago. i live in georgia. the only thing i can think of that was different was we had some snow and ice since last time it ran.

i would probably do a partial drain down to just above the strainer grid and then refill. add some bleach and run the pump as you fill it back up.
