Update: I can now see the bottom clearly, but the water is still tinted, but now more greenish than brown.

Pool continues to improve - I can actually see some of the bottom. I can see patched of debris that need vacuuming. I'm tempted to vacuum them but I think that would mix/disturb the exchange process so I'll wait till the exchange has run its course before I vacuum.

Skimmer sock without polyfill got the iron? What brand?

Will filtering help with the metals?

My surface water is currently 82 and my soft fill water from the well is about 70. So I am filling at the bottom of the deep end and draining from the surface of the shallow end.

The pool manufacturer says I can't drain the pool so I'll try to fill from the bottom and drain from the shallow end. I just ordered a Sump pump. I'll let you know how it goes. I hope the temperature difference is enough to make this work. Tim

ok - so if I add CYA, I can't backwash, but probably should. If I don't add CYA should I go ahead and add chlorine during the day anyway? What should I do?

Moved from here. My pool hasn't been opened in a couple of years. I'm now opening and Slamming, but my CYA is 0, so adding chlorine in the day is a waste. Can one slam effectively by only shocking at night? Recommendations?

Prices I've seen on Amazon for the equipment are in the $400 - $900 range, so that is what I am expecting to pay, but I am willing to pay slightly more for a system that requires the least maintenance/repair.
