    Where'd the pined posts go?

Until recently there were a couple of pined posts that had a good walkthrough on sanitizing with chlorine or bromine. They seem to be gone. Just wondering where they are and if we can get them back?

    Flooding around tub!

So I've got a problem. I installed my tub last fall so this is my first spring and I've got a problem. We had a huge temperature spike today. It went from the '30s (low single-digit Celsius) yesterday to the '60s (high teens in Celcius) today. That meant that the snowpack started melting and...

Cool temperatures in hot tub cabinet

So far so good. Temperatures are on the rise. Can you see where I wrapped it?

Cool temperatures in hot tub cabinet

Ya there's fiberglass insulation inside the cabinet but my guess is when the wind kicks up it just blows right through it. I was thinking of wrapping the tub with some Costco pallet wrap for the winter to hopefully cut the wind. Would that be a bad idea?

Cool temperatures in hot tub cabinet

I have a temperature probe I use to monitor my hot tub. It had two components the transmitter which lives in the cabinet and a waterproof probe that comes out and goes into the water of the tub. I've been following the temperature and the water temperature is fairly steady (39c or 102f), but the...

How quickly should FC go down?

I ended up getting it here https://thehottubsuperstore.com/product/ahhsome-6-ounce-spa-bio-cleaner/ They also sell the 2 oz size but it's only 30% more $ for 300% more product so 6 oz seems like the no-brainer size to get.

How quickly should FC go down?

So I went ahead and ahh-somed it. I was going to put it off a month or two but figured I might as well get it over with. I was half worried I was going to add the ahh-some and nothing would happen then I'd be kicking myself for wasting my time and money. But nope, I got a green ring! Not quite...

How quickly should FC go down?

So I decided to go though the documentation that came with the hot tub and I ended up finding a trial packet of ahh-some (thanks @Ahhsomeguy !). I couldn't remember why I didn't use it right away so I re read the documentation and they say to use it during "your first water change". They really...

How quickly should FC go down?

It did come with an Ozone system. How much should that lower the chlorine? If they lower it by so much then why include it in the first place? I may have to drain and refile but I'm not looking forward to doing that nor is anyone else who won't be able to use the tub for a few days while it...

How quickly should FC go down?

So my latest in a string of questions while getting to know my new hot tub. BUT before I get started you guys ROCK! So from everything I've been reading I felt like I seem to be needing to add a lot of chlorine to keep my FC up. So I decided to do a test last night. I top up to get an FC of 6...

    Nordic hot tubs dichlor only?

I was flipping through the manual for my new hot tub and noticed that Nordic ONLY allows you to use dichlor and specifically says not to use bleach. They even go as far as saying it could void your warranty. Just wondering why they might say that, beyond trying to get people to visit their...

    What is "ultra-spa"?

about 2 lbs. It's not just strat Borax though. It's Boric acid (Acidic) and Borax (Basic) mixed in the right ratio to give you a ph of 7.5. So I guess that adds some value to it.

    What is "ultra-spa"?

Just a quick update. I did A LOT of digging and eventually found the MSDS and it looks like it's more or less a PH neutral Borate mix with fragrance. Might be other stuff that's the bulk of what it is. Not sure why they couldn't just put that on the label. MSDS_ULTRA_SPA.pdf

    Test strip recommendations

OK Fair enough I feel like a simple drop kit would be a good compromise. Was thinking of getting the Taylor K-1000 but after looking they're nearly impossible to find in Canada. The only place I could find it wants $60 shipped for something that should be less than $20. Are OTO tests fairly...

    Test strip recommendations

First, let me start that I have a Taylor test kit and use it. These strips are just too give me a very quick ballpark value in between testing with the better test. (I.e. make sure the chlorine isn't 0 or of the chart before someone wants to get in). If ever the strip gives me a reading I think...

    What is "ultra-spa"?

They only wanted $16 for it but I was very sceptical. If it was just borates it wouldn't be too bad it's all the other stuff I don't want.

    What is "ultra-spa"?

My pool store tried selling something called ultra spa. They said it's was a water conditioner and it assisted the other chemicals in the hot tub but no where does it say what it actually is. Does anyone know what it actually is? Also I know it's not necessary but does it provide any benefits or...

My cord is too short... Now what?

Ya 114v seemed odd to me too. I checked again this morning and it was back up to 119v. Maybe something weird was going on with the grid last night? Still not happy with the drop on that line. Did some quick calculation online and it would look like that corresponds to about 100ft of 14 gauge...

My cord is too short... Now what?

We Just got our Nordic 110v hot tub and I goofed. I knew it had a 15-foot cord, so I planned out the place the tub needed to be. I knew it was going to be tight but I thought I was ok. I got the pad all ready, the tub delivered and in place. I went to plug it in and realized that because of the...

How to build a gravel pad?

Huh, interesting. They actually specifically said they didn't want it on pavers. Maybe because usually people just slap the pavers down and don't bother making a bed for it first?

How to build a gravel pad?

We've ordered a Nordic Warrior XL 110v which should be here in 6-8 weeks. Or dealer asked that we have either a gravel pad or a poured concrete pad. I'm opting for gravel as I'd rather not have a giant slab of concrete in our yard (nor do I think it's necessary for a smaller tub like ours). The...

Spa that EASILY converts from 110v to 220v and vice versa?

It's my understand that even the smaller simpler tubs come with bigger heaters the only thing is they can't fully utilize them unless you wire it for 220v. So even if you do get a smaller one and realise that it's not heating enough at 110v all you have to do is get a 220v circuit run and your...

Spa that EASILY converts from 110v to 220v and vice versa?

So I know a lot of the plug and play spas can be converted from 110v operation to 220v operation but I was wondering if there was one where it was relatively easy to do? I.e. can be done without needing to call an electrician to rewire it. I don't mind if it stays hard wired I just don't want it...

Is it ok to leave a small leak?

So I just got my pool set up and noticed I have two small leaks around the pump I just replaced. My guess is there's probably not enough Teflon tape on the joints and that's why it's leaking. That said the leaks are really slow, only one drop every 10s or so. So I did the math and that's only a...

    2 speed pump vs timer

Unfortunately, that's how all the Hayward (the only thing I can get around here) 2 speed AGP pumps work. from their manual So I either go with that on setting 4 or I just get a single speed pump and use the timer I already have to just turn it off during the day.

    2 speed pump vs timer

Unfortunately the 2 speed pumps I've seen that most you can run them at low speed are 18 hours so you still get 6 hours of high speed. Even with a 75% power savings when you run for that much longer especially at peak electricity usage times I don't think you'd save much. no?

    2 speed pump vs timer

I already have a timer installed, and I'm looking to get a new pump. Is it worth it to get a two speed pump compared to just running a single speed pump on the timer. I.e. running a two speed pump 6 hours on high and 18 hours on low vs running a single speed pump 12 hours on and 12 hours off...

Which of these pumps to get?

Really? I'd always been running at that horsepower and it's what our installer recommended. Is there a recommendation for HP for standard above ground pool sizes?
