any reason to cover pool after leaves have already dropped?

Hello all, just had my last swim of a relatively cheap and trouble free pool year. (48 degree water) I have never properly closed the pool before and am wondering with the threat of leaves gone, is there still any reason to cover the pool? I'm in western NY. The house/pool came with a...

My first opening, after my first closing... not so good

As far as speeding things up, my experience is that skimmer socks do speed things up quite a bit. Make sure you don't let your FC drop past your goal for CYA level, or you will need to shock again. As far as the cloudy water, i would probably just swim in the pool now and take a shower when...

My first opening, after my first closing... not so good

one thing, if your FC is really 0, you want to get beach in that pool before it starts to go green again i keep my FC a bit higher than most seem to around 10 and add more when it drops to around 5.

My first opening, after my first closing... not so good

if i were you I would throw about 4 more gallons of bleach in the pool. (ii'm guessing based on what mine took when it was a muddy swamp just to register any FC) if you have any method of testing FC, you could throw them in one at a time until you have a reading. you probably don't have any...

My first opening, after my first closing... not so good

Just want to chime in. Here bj's has 4 pack of 1 gallon 12.5% bleach for the best price, its like $13. Oh, and your pool looks much better than mine did a month ago. Bleach stabilzer and borax are the only things we have added to the pool and its sparkling.

    Pool went green overnight?

Well i read the postings here from some research about drinking chlorinated water where they found no ill effect other than taste up to what was it, 20-30 ppm cl. They said no inflammation of mucous membranes under that point, thats why I figured it would be fine. If you can drink 20ppm...

    Cloudy - Not Clearing Up

I had this happen, and found skimmer socks to be a cheap and easy way to augment filtration. Just make sure to change them often

new pool owner - can't completely clear up abandoned pool.

Re: new pool owner - can't completely clear up abandoned poo We had an abandoned agp at our new house, we dumped it, shopvaced it, cleaned it with soft scrub, refilled it and it was good. We abandoned it at the end of the fall and it sat uncovered all winter, filled with leaves and a dead...

    Pool went green overnight?

I just wanted to chime in om the swimming with high FC. A few weeks ago it was so hot and sunny I jumped in the pool at 30FC with 30 CYA and had no fading of orange swim trunks, no dry skin or irritation. But we also had less than 1 CC. I think when the experts here say its the CC that are...

we are considering some "surgery" so that it can no longer fill with water.... does your new ladder still take sand in the sides, or are you talking about one of the "wedding cake" type of ladders?

suggestions on how to clean this disaster??

just to let you know, it is a 21' AGP, it took us about 2/3 of a day to drain it, vac it, scrub it, and start to refill it. We didn't want to leave it empty any longer than we had to.

0 FC after adding so much bleach?

just to share my experience. when we opened our pool, i poured 2 gallon bottles of 12.5% chlorine in the pool and the FC still read zero. The third gallon brough it up to just register on a test strip, the fourth gallon only brought it up to 5 FC on the test strip The fifth gallon finally got...

Cloudy water after a week of shocking

we had a similar pool situation and using a skimmer sock sped things up. We had to change the sock to a clean one maybe every hour at first. they have a 4 pack at lowes for something like $4. our pool store also has a 5 pack for $10. the lowes one worked ok, but are considered disposable...

suggestions on how to clean this disaster??

We inherited our vinyl AGP with our house purchased off of forclosure. We have no idea how long the pool sat before we bought it, but it sat another year after we bought it. We drained it, vacuumed it with two shop vacs. and used two soft bristle scrub brushes and soft scrub with bleach and a...

HELP ME!! Been trying to open for over 3 weeks

as a newbie here i just want to say, the chlorine is all you need is true... We didn't close our pool last year (in NYS) and this spring it was dark brown, full of leaves and sticks, and a dead squirrel . We did nothing but take the squirrel out with a shovel, skim the top with the net, pour...

Algae (i think) growing inside pool ladder steps

thanks for all of the speedy replies. we stopped at the pool store yesterday (its actually a pretty good one, at least the guy we usually deal with seems pretty good. He only sold us algaecide once and did it reluctantly because we were struggling last year.) and they suggest disassembling...

Algae (i think) growing inside pool ladder steps

Hello, This is my first time posting here, I've been lurking for a while, learned about the TF test kit, how to shock, BBB, etc, and read the pool school, etc. Pool info: Right now I did the overnight test for the first time and found out my trusty strips really are crappy. I had 30 ppm FC...
