    Is this heater dead?

Thanks for the advice here. It sounds like I should plan for a new one. Any recommendations on a replacement heater that would fit this space without much modification? It's a 17,000 gal pool with a SWG. I'd be looking for an economic option to just get us a bit of heated water in early spring...

    Is this heater dead?

I recently opened my pool, and all the equipment is working well. We didn't try the heater as the pool inspector when we bought the house last fall said it was non-functioning but he didn't know why. Are you able to tell what I might be dealing with from these photos? Any tips on what service...

First time opening - does this plan look good?

Thanks! I don't have that link in the app settings. I did already purchase the annual subscription a couple weeks ago. Is there a way to still link up my app account to my profile here?

First time opening - does this plan look good?

I decided to keep things at SLAM levels one more day just to be sure, and maybe to kill off any last algae. Plus, we've had a couple heavy rains, which helped get my water level up a couple inches to where I wanted it but also dilutes things. I've seen a big reduction in that "sediment" on the...

OCLT was a success: FC: 10 CC: 0 Ph: 7.8 CYA: 20 (detectable now—dot almost obscured at 30) I believe that means I've officially come to the end of the main steps of opening my pool! Could you all sanity check me on what I think are my next steps now? * I'll add the rest of my bag of CYA...

First time opening - does this plan look good?

Alright, the day has gone pretty well. FC has gone down to 9.5 now, and I added a bit more to bring into 10ppm in preparation for tonight. Here's another little mystery to solve. In the attached picture you can see the steps and some small pockets of dirt or sediment on that top step (you might...

FC holding at 10.5 since topping off the chlorine 4 hours ago. I still can't get any detectable CYA reading! So I went aggressive with the t-shirt and the 3lbs of CYA and really squeezed it ALL out in front of a jet. A few clumps fell to the bottom, but I broke them up with the brush. So...

I'll keep it up today and see if I see improvement in the appearance of the "dirt" and the OCLT. But at what point is my pool swimmable for the family? Does every spec of dirt have to be eliminated? Just trying to set the right goals here and do it right but not over-do it, if you know what i mean.

First time opening - does this plan look good?

FC: 8 this morning, so I added a bit more. I've been brushing manually and running the robot once/twice a day. The water looks crystal clear, but there are small areas of accumulation of something along the bottom. Not sure if it's just dirt or algae.

First time opening - does this plan look good?

Just went to test. Yikes, that's cold! If I stick my palm in front of the port I don't feel any suction at all. Again feeling around inside, it's a round plastic piece. I pushed pretty hard and it doesn't move. It doesn't rotate at all. Maybe it's stuck and it's supposed to open or rotate? Are...

First time opening - does this plan look good?

No other pipes. I don't have a wider picture at the moment, but the only thing out of picture is the non-functioning heater to the left, so the pipes going to it are closed. No other pipes coming into the pump/filter than the ones seen there.

Here's what one of those mystery ports looks like (the bottom right one). The other picture shows my piping setup in case that helps. My understanding was that the middle two were incoming to the pump from skimmer and floor drains, and the other three were the three return jets.

First time opening - does this plan look good?

There are two floor drains in the deep end. Along the side of the pool there are two "ports" that don't have threads, so they don't seem to be jets, and sticking my fingers in them I just feel some round plastic that doesn't move if I press in on it. Those two ports are slightly lower than the 3...

First time opening - does this plan look good?

Uh oh. Did I miss a step? When I reached deep into my skimmer today I noticed there was only one drain hole open. Next to it there's a plastic piece connected to what I'm guessing is a second hole. Everything I've read talks about there being two drains in the skimmer. Is that plastic piece...

First time opening - does this plan look good?

Went to the Ace hardware store closer to me because online it said they had a huge stock of chlorine. Well, they sure had a huge stock... from 1 year ago! So I went the longer distance to Walmart thinking I'd get that late 2024 stock I got last time, and surprise, they had even newer stock from...

First time opening - does this plan look good?

After backwashing a couple times, the water is running clear, and my baseline pressure is back down to 16. SLAMed with another 8ppm of chlorine because my FC got down to 2 this afternoon. I'm using up so much chlorine on this pool! Back to the store for more jugs...

Sand filter. This will be my first time backwashing ever. Turn pump off, switch to backwash, turn pump back on. Let it go... for 1 minute? Then pump off, set to rinse, pump on for 30 seconds. Then back to normal filter mode and on with my SLAM. Is that the right procedure?

First time opening - does this plan look good?

Now I'm at 3ppm, so I'm going to add more to get back to 10, but... I noticed my filter pressure has gone up to 26. My baseline over the past couple days has been 18. Anything to worry about there? Should I do a backwash/rinse before adding more chlorine? Or am I safe with the pressure increases...

First time opening - does this plan look good?

I SLAMed with 174oz at 8:48am, now an hour and a half later I'm reading 10ppm FC exactly. If it still reads 10ppm in 30 minutes (so 2 hours from SLAM), do I just leave it be? I only add more chlorine if it goes below 10?

First time opening - does this plan look good?

Well a bit of good news to share. I added another round of 5ppm of Chlorine this afternoon after testing at 0-0.5ppm, and after 30 minutes the test showed 5.5ppm. That's the first time I've seen a stable chlorine level after adding. Here's where I'm at now... FC: 5.5 PH 7.6 TA: 50 Salt: 2600...

First time opening - does this plan look good?

The water looks surprisingly clear today with the sun starting to come out slightly. I can see to the bottom in the deep end and see that the robot has cleaned up most of the muck that was there. Will do 👍 Pool Essentials from Walmart, everything on the shelf had date 24 362. I asked a manger...

After adding 5ppm to basically 0ppm readable chlorine, 30 minutes later I'm at 3ppm from the drop test. In theory that should have been 5ppm right? Pool Math tells me 3ppm is a good level though.
