    High CYA & CH Readings

Guess I was assuming it went away with evaporation, but it definitely makes sense that it doesn't. Thanks.

    High CYA & CH Readings

Thanks for the information. Nice to hear others with similar issues and what they did. Surprisingly I'm not using a ton of chlorine and never have, yet I still have clean water. Of course I'm in the desert so I don't have all the contaminants that others may have.

    High CYA & CH Readings

I've now stopped using the pucks. Over time the water will get replaced just due to evaporation here in Texas this time of year. I know if I turn off my auto fill, the pool loses about 1" of water a day if not covered. I haven't figured out how much water that is or how long it would take to...

    High CYA & CH Readings

Total Chlorine: 4 PPM PH: 7.5 TA: 250 CH: 850 CYA: 100 CSI: 0.83 Pool temp: 87 degrees F The pool water looks great. Crystal clear. No algae problems. I do have calcium scaling problems on by pool tiles. Every year I use acid and a lot of elbow grease to scrub them shiny again. Should mention...

    High CYA & CH Readings

I'm new to the BBB method. Recently bought a TF-100 test kit. After testing a few times I do have some questions on what to do. I'm also using the pool calculator. My pool is 16,000 gallons. My Calcium Hardness measures at 850 versus a suggested level of 250-350. To lower the level the...

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

I was thinking about the skimmer myself. I'll have to see how well it does. My pool return lines are near the top of the pool and even on low speed I can just barely see the water movement at the surface so it's moving the water in the right direction. Plus the prevailing winds typically blow...

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

I finally tracked down my pool leak near the pump. Had to wait for everything to dry out. Turns out I had a crack in the hose on the return line right after the chlorinator. Due to the way the pool installer ran the pipes, he had to use about 12" of flexible 1.5" spa hose in this part of the...

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

Well I ordered a B2983T from Pool Supply World on Sunday. It arrived on Thursday and I installed it today. Very simple install. Just removed the old motor, connected the new motor using the same wiring, put the old impeller on the new motor, and put the whole thing back together. Probably took...

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

That would make sense based on the information from the Inyo Pools website. Do you think that's why they have an additional sticker on the motor that says 2 HP and 1.1 SF? That would give the actual HP as 2.2 which is pretty much the same as 2.25.

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

Well I'm ready to buy my new motor. I plan on getting the B2984T. As I did some more research, however, I came up with more questions. I always thought my motor was 2 HP. Below is a picture of the faceplate that says 2 HP on top. [attachment=1:1j91tmg4]motor...

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

This is very helpful Jason. This is the type of comparison I've been looking for. The dual speed run on low is a great option with the quickest payback. I do have a question about you assumptions for the pumps. Is there a reason you used a 1 HP pump in the comparison? The reason I ask is...

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

This does help. I'll definitely be interested in the sound reduction. I just got done changing all the seals on my pump so I should be good if I go with the motor change. I'd love to swing by to see it, but I'm way out in west Texas. Thanks.

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

Thanks for the information. Definitely interesting that this motor will generate so much savings. Did you end up going with the B2984? How much quieter is it? I used a decibel meter on my iPhone and measured 84 dB right at the motor. About 10' away where my sitting area is located I measured 64...

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

No I haven't considered a 2 speed pump because the cost didn't seem that much lower. I looked at the Pentair 011523 which also costs $850. For that price I figured it's even better to go with one of the Intelliflo pumps. My main reason to want to replace my pump is to reduce the sound. I want a...

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

I've been reading about the energy efficient pumps now available. I'm thinking about replacing my current pump with one of these for the energy savings as well as the noise reduction. My current pump is a 2 HP Pentair Challenger high head high flow pump. The noise from it has always bothered me...
