Need to SLAM, PH is 7.8

I can do that! And just to make sure I'm on the same page, FC is staying the same over night meaning that its not an algae problem, correct?

Need to SLAM, PH is 7.8

So...8:30 last night- my CYA is about a 35, so I added the appropriate amount of bleach and brushed twice before midnight. 12 hours later the over night test showed no loss of FC less than .5 of CC yet I've still got brown dirt/residue on the bottom of the pool. I honestly thought it was...

Need to SLAM, PH is 7.8

Thank you Sir Dave! Started and brushed for 45 minutes...checking FC one more time, then heading to bed with my arms feeling 2 inches longer.

Need to SLAM, PH is 7.8

Need to start SLAM process, but PH is 7.8. So should I lower it first or just start dumping in bleach (recommended amounts of course) and get dead armed from brushing?

    R-0870

It's a mystery to me, and that's why I made this post. It was stored inside with the cap on... I honestly would have bet that the powdered reagent would have a out lasted the others, shelf life wise, 3x. So I'm just wondering what may have affected it like this.

    R-0870

Nope, this originally happened a week and a half ago (I used my remaining 0871 drops). So I ordered new powder and 0871, finally received yesterday. Rinsed the tube with tap water and then with pool sample water, then tested the first time (old powder & new drops).

    R-0870

The powder looks normal and turns the water deep pink...but would not react to the 0871 drops. I ordered new powder and drops, so opened the new powder and got a normal 11 drop reading (I was already using new drops).

I keep the kit in the house year round, and it was purchased right at a year ago. And yes, it's a vinyl liner pool. Thank you for the quick response!

    R-0870

Can this Reagent go bad? After adding 40 drops of 0871 and not the slightest hint of change, I poured out the sample and opened a new canister of powder and this time, it only took 11 drops (5.5 FC)...so I'm guessing its bad? Also, this weekend, I added 4lbs of stabilizer. How long will this...

    CYA is AWOL

Oh trust me, just another excuse for her to go shopping! Because I ruined her pantyhose, she'll need a whole new outfit to go with the new hose...geez BTW, when the pool calculator asks for temperature, is that water temp or air temp? I've wondered that for a year now.

    CYA is AWOL

That I do Richard, THAT I do! Can I determine the amount of granular stuff to measure with the pool calculator? PS, thanks for the quick reply.

    CYA is AWOL

New home, new pool last year. Found TFP early on and was all BBB all summer. Worked great, got great advice. Last summer CYA was 90+, partially drained and refilled and eventually got CYA to the 60-70 mark. Closed pool, opened this summer to clear water but huge green algae covering the...

    My Question/problem of the day...

Thanks for the info Zea3. I'm pretty sure it is pollen, but being a first timer with a pool, I'm leery of everything.

    My Question/problem of the day...

    FC - 9 CC - 0.5 TA - 90 PH - 7.5 CYA - 75 CH - 280

    My Question/problem of the day...

Q of the day: I have things floating on the water surface, that appear to be tree pollen. It's been doing this for several weeks. When I run the filter for 12+ hours it pretty much eliminates it, but comes back the next day. If this is indeed tree pollen (cottonwood), than it is what it is...

    My Question/problem of the day...

9+ hours and the FC is still holding at 36, got lucky with a very cloudy day. We've brushed 2 times and I'm going to go brush again in the dark (sounds like a country song...a bad one, but), if FC holds throughout the night, and water is clear, can I consider this shock therapy done?

    My Question/problem of the day...

1.5 hours later and FC is 36. Should I just let it drop to the 30-31 range and then concentrate on holding it there?

    My Question/problem of the day...

It's been a long time since I barely passed college chemistry...but it appears that the bleach is 8%. Thanks for the re-assurance that I'm not melting PVC pieces etc. I'll guess that it's not mixed as well as it should be, and test again in an hour! THANKS!

    My Question/problem of the day...

Started the "shock process", used pool calculator and added what it suggested based on my readings. Brushed, waited an hour and fifteen minutes and my target FC was 30 but actually read 39. Pre shock- FC 5, CC 1, TA 90, PH 7.4, CYA 80, CH 280 Is one of my readings off? Or was my math off...

    My Question/problem of the day...

Today's numbers: FC - 9 CC - 0.5 TA - 90 PH - 7.6 CYA - 75-80 - I hate this test regardless of how many times I re-use test agent. CH - 280 Several questions today - #1. What's the school of thought about shocking before/during/after rain storms? #2. Hooked up the vacuum and pump lost...

    My Question/problem of the day...

I'm using my NEW K-2006 (I'm excited). I was watching a YouTube video from "swimjim"? And I was doing math based upon their stats. eg. FC 16 drops x .02, and that is where I got .32 I did not do the CH test but will try and get to that one before dark. The CYA test seemed fickle, so I...

    My Question/problem of the day...

I have a ton of questions, but hate starting a new thread for each of them, so I'm going to have one thread that I will ask most of them here. FINALLY got my test kit, and here are this afternoon's numbers- FC - .32 CC - .08 PH - 7.4 TA - 90 CYA 80 So according to the calculator I need to...

    Speakers

Thanks for the feedback and especially the links. Now I'm just not what to do with these speakers in my ceiling. Think there's a market for them on CL?

    CYA

Thank you both! I'm trying to convert a neglected "pool store" pool into a BBB pool. So as I'm trying to be patient, I'm thinking about things such as this CYA thing. Thank you. And BTW, we just bought the house and pool in November, so I'm NOT the neglectful party.

    CYA

Thanks! I just didn't know chemically speaking if CYA would be a part of the evaporation process or if it separated from the water evaporating and remained in the pool! Thanks again.

    Speakers

I don't know what type they are other than Bose. They are mounted from the ceiling in the "back" of the viewing area. They will be mounted under the covered patio, protected from sun and 97% of rain...some blowing rain may hit them from time to time. The stereo unit would just be some old...

    CYA

I've drained and refilled and have the CYA at what I think (kit shows up today or tomorrow) is a workable level. Q. Throughout the summer, will CYA levels be affected by evaporation? That question has been driving me nuts for a week

    Speakers

I'm not really a speaker/stereo guy, but I want to have some speakers outside, around the pool. I have some Bose surround sound speakers not being used (with the new house when purchased), will they sound okay hooked to a stereo system? Just not sure how SS speakers work vs. regular stereo...

Trying to clean my new green pool

Additional update - Started pump, gave the water an hour to circulate, took a sample to pool store (Leslie's) and got these readings - FC still 0 PH. 7.0 TA. 60 CYA. 30!! Drain 1/2 the water and CYA drops 70%?? I'm guessing not...kit comes in on Wed. So using pool calculator, I'm...
