    Unexpected bucket test results

:-/ **** ghosts. Next they'll be spiking my pool with CYA when I'm not around.

    Unexpected bucket test results

To even the levels, I had to put in easily 16 C, which was probably 15 inches? This was in one of those Home Depot buckets.

    Unexpected bucket test results

No auto-fill device. And while a stray cat does pop by occasionally at night, I think the height of the water in the bucket would have prevented the animal from standing up and reaching into it to drink--the pool would have been way easier to drink from. Plus, I noticed the second test results...

    Unexpected bucket test results

I ran a bucket test over the weekend because the pool has been losing water a bit faster than normal (but the weather has also been hotter) so I just wanted to convince myself everything was ok. I made sure the water level in the bucket was the same as in the pool. The next morning, the bucket...

The pH drifts upwards in a fairly short span of time

I can't tell you how often people tell me that. I'll try and move that TA a bit more and see. Out of curiosity, how high is too high for borates? As I said, I shot for 60ppm, and the strip looks more like 80ppm.

The pH drifts upwards in a fairly short span of time

According to this, it seems like there's no formula for lowering TA in order to achieve a drop by Xppm. Is there another method that yields more predictable results?

The pH drifts upwards in a fairly short span of time

As indicated, I dropped it to 70-80. The method for lowering TA seems to not be as exacting as adding FC, etc. Would lowering it by only 10 or 20 require dropping it below 50-60 and then raising it slightly?

The pH drifts upwards in a fairly short span of time

pH drift.. again I posted a while back about having to adjust my pH down more frequently than I expected ( thread here) Mod edit: Please keep your posts about this issue in the same place so we have the history. Thanks, moderator linen Having only a 5 months experience with my pool, I'm...

The pH drifts upwards in a fairly short span of time

Thanks very much, I wasn't aware that the Cl source affected what the TA should be. I'll try and lower it this week and see how it goes! Love this forum!

The pH drifts upwards in a fairly short span of time

I have no problem doing this, but isn't that a low TA? Won't it cause the pH to swing more wildly?

The pH drifts upwards in a fairly short span of time

No I have the TF kit, but I didnt have the hardness reading handy and the strips were the last time I measured it (kit reading was a few weeks back)

The pH drifts upwards in a fairly short span of time

Here are my specifics: 20,000 gallon pool No water features DE filter with fiberclear Water is new (3 months) but the plaster and pipes are old (potentially 30-40 years!) Pump is variable speed Pentair (new as of March) Chem: TA: 100-110 Hardness: can't recall, but "normal" by my test strip...

The pH drifts upwards in a fairly short span of time

I hope you don't mind me piggybacking on this post, but I came here to post the same question. Post split to a new topic. Yes we mind. JasonLion TA = 100-110 pH = drifts up to 7.6-7.8 within a week of me bringing it to 7.4ish CH = (can't recall my reading last night, but likely 200ish) I've...

    DE alternatives?

I have an old DE filter with no backwash capability, so I have to spray the grids off by hand in my backyard. As you might imagine, this has made a small patch of almost-cement where the silica gets deposited. Even with a backwash system, I don't believe I can simply pump the DE into the waste...

Old plaster started spalling. Will it spread?

Guess I better get a snorkel too for the shallow end work :)

Zodiac Baracuda G3 won't clean pool center

Thanks... The instructions said if I only had one skimmer, I didn't need the flow meter but this makes sense to check it.

Zodiac Baracuda G3 won't clean pool center

I just ran my new Zodiac Baracuda G3 this weekend for the first time. I've never run an automatic vacuum before, or really vacuumed a pool before since this is my first season owning a pool. The pump is an IntelliFlo, and I was running it at 2500 rpm. The vacuum moved along fine and cleaned the...

Old plaster started spalling. Will it spread?

My wife and I recently bought our first house and it came with a pool. We found that the FC level was hard to keep up due to very high CYA (who knows how long the water had been in the pool before we bought it--but the house wasn't kept in great shape, so the pool was probably even more abused)...

Thanks for the MSDS. I'll try to neutralize.

Disposing of DE filter grid cleaner

So this is my first post here. I attempted a search on this topic and read the basic pool cleaning stuff, but didn't find my answer. I apologize in advance if this has already been covered: I'm a new house owner and new pool maintainer. We decided to drain the water out because the CYA was...
