What do I do with the old/bad pump I just replaced?

Who/how do I sell this thing for copper? Craigslist, or just find a scrapyard? What is it worth?

Question about the TA test with the TF-100 test kit

Thanks for explaining this! I redid my test the correct way and my TA dropped from 110 to 80. I guess I should start following directions!

Question about the TA test with the TF-100 test kit

It says in the instructions for the TA test to: "3. Add R-009 one drop at a time, swirling between each drop. Wipe the tip of the bottle after every drop with a damp cloth." I'm wondering about the "Wipe the tip of the bottle after every drop with a damp cloth" part. Why is this necessary...

What do I do with the old/bad pump I just replaced?

It's a 1hp Hayward Superpump. I'm assuming a scrapyard would want it. Would anyplace give me money for it? BTW, it was still functional, but making a VERY loud whine/scream.

Need help with plumbing vacuum air leak

UPDATE! Leak found!! It turns out the air was leaking in at the union on the front of the pump. I found it by running water over the fittings. Union removed and replaced and all is working perfect! Thanks for the help!! -Kurt

Need help with plumbing vacuum air leak

No Vortex, this was considered. This is something to look into, I did hand tighten the union, but I did not inspect the O-ring. Good Idea Thanks, also a good idea

Need help with plumbing vacuum air leak

Every O-ring was lubricated at installation (Yesterday), drain plugs are tight, and I can see the air coming into the strainer basket from the plumbing, also when I turn the pump off, the plumbing continues to burp into the strainer basket.

Need help with plumbing vacuum air leak

I just installed a new 2 speed 3/4hp Superflo pump, and my air leak that I had before has grown worse, I think due to this pump working better than the last pump. Air is leaking in at both high and low speeds. I wrapped a lot of electrical tape around all of the exposed plumbing fittings on the...

Help me pick a new pump!

Sorry, I'm easily confused with this stuff. Are you talking about the wiring between the breaker panel and the timer box, or the wiring between the timer box and the pump. Or both?? Will I need to run a new wire between the breaker panel and the timer box? If I do, I'm just going to get the...

Help me pick a new pump!

So as far as hardware is concerned, all I would need to change is: Add a new 2-pole breaker in the breaker box, and run a red wire all the way to the timer box, then a yellow wire from the timer box to the pump?

Inconsistant CYA test results from Leslie's and other store

Re: Inconsistant CYA test results from Leslie's and other st I got my TF-100 and it looks like my CYA is 70-75. I'm looking forward to not having to rely on the pool stores for testing. :-D

Help me pick a new pump!

Here are some pictures of my wiring, maybe you guys will know more about what's going on than I do. I'm usually a pretty good DIY guy, but electricity is black magic to me. Timer Box. Right conduit goes to pump, the red and yellow wires are capped and unused. So according to what I'm seeing...

Help me pick a new pump!

Pentair's website has lots of typos and incorrect info as well. Does everyone agree that the WFDS-24 being 115v is NOT a typo? It's the only 1hp 2 speed that is 115v capable, and that seems weird to me.

Help me pick a new pump!

Do you guys know how to figure out how long I need to run the 3/4hp pump on low speed in order clean all 30,000 gallons?

Help me pick a new pump!

Right now I'm planning on buying the 3/4 Superflo. Does everybody agree that the 3/4 Superflo is powerful enough to keep 30,000g clean?

Inconsistant CYA test results from Leslie's and other store

First off, I ordered a TF100 Test kit and I'm waiting for it to arrive, so I've been having my water tested at Leslie's and another local pool store since opening my pool for the first time. (Just moved in last summer) I had my water tested at Leslie's last week and they said my CYA was 100. So...

Help me pick a new pump!

I don't even know where to look for a 115v 3/4hp 2 speed motor only. How do I know if it will fit my Super Pump?

Help me pick a new pump!

Jason, thank you for that great info!! I guess I was falling for the "More is Better" marketing. It seems like the 3/4 Superflo is the best way to go. Now to just find a good price on one... Thanks!!

Help me pick a new pump!

I only use the pump for filtration/cirulation, and vacuuming. Will a 3/4hp pump still operate the skimmer and vacuum efficiently? If so, this would work: http://www.sunplay.com/Pentair-SuperFlo-Pump-341111-p/341111.htm Best price I could find was only $10 cheaper, but if it would still work...

Help me pick a new pump!

I considered that myself, I would say the wet end is in "OK" shape, but the cost doesn't seem to be more more for a whole new pump. Also, I should add that the current pump seems to be wire for 120v, and all of the 2 speed pumps seem to be 220v. Is that true? Is my only option to rewire for 220v?

Help me pick a new pump!

Hi everyone, I'm a new home/pool owner as of last summer and over the winter my Hayward 1hp Single Speed Super Pump started making a lot of noise (LOUD whine). I don't know how old it is, but instead of repairing it, I see it as a good excuse to buy a more efficient and quieter 2 speed pump. I...
