    SWG reading vs Taylor

There was someone in hot tub thread that does the same thing with their tub SWG... Unless that was also you. 😂

I work from home so I'm always always freaking here, and can prep for a storm in minutes.

    SWG reading vs Taylor

I can't recall if thru TFP, but I recall a comment that after a heavy rain to close skimmer valve half-way for few hours to prevent that exact issue with top water causing skewed reading at SWG... And also to run pump at higher speed (clean cycle) to mix better

    SWG reading vs Taylor

I have a water softener so already have storage area for bags of salt. 4 more bags not an issue. I plan on taking another reading one week post start then monthly. If I need it, I got it. Then makes me wonder... The SWG is drawing off skimmer and main drain. My sample is elbow depth in front...

    SWG reading vs Taylor

Added salt couple days ago to get me to a level to fire-up SWG (min 2600 and added what I had on hand to hit 2800).. need to get one more 40# bag to get me to target 3200 and picking that up today at Ace store (along with 4 more bags to keep on-hand). Allowed salt to circulate for 48 hours...

    Calcium level drop over winter

It was 170 week before closed pool and drained 4 inches below the skimmer. I did drain twice during the winter (pump at bottom) to remove some accumulated melted snow that was starting to leak into skimmer. At soft open, only had about 1 inch above skimmer and it has since filled naturally to...

    Calcium level drop over winter

I typically maintain my fiberglass pool around 180 to 220. When took my first measurement after opening (and water well circulated), it was at 80... water temp at 61. How much does water temperature impact the accuracy of calcium test? Would it be in solution greater at colder temp and...

Pool Math changes values on 2 pools

I have two pools configured (main pool and hot tub). Have noticed when I change target value on one pool, that becomes the target value on the other. This is troublesome since I want to maintain certain levels in pool (CYA, TA, calcium) and have different values for hot tub. Is this a bug that...

Yep, I was targeting consistent 65 temp minimum before turn on the cell. Then consistent 70-75 before hit the heater. I just need baseline CYA and then use appropriate total pucks to target; then start hitting the chlor reserves (and have wally send me more cases)

Let’s see your water after removing winter cover!! **RESURRECTED FOR 2025!**

2 passes with robot and manually sweeping tanning ledge. 52 degrees and floating 5 trichlor pucks (15 cya right there once they eventually dissolve) until turn on SWG. 8 jugs of chlorine on ready reserve (had wally world send me 4 boxes of 4 last year). Will measure CYA, salt, and borax in...

Shout out to Guides and Contributors

My first pool opening. Pulled mesh cover, ran robot twice, and have 5 pucks trichlor floating until turn on SWG. Other than water only 52, it's basically swim ready. So thank you everyone for your expertise, advice, tips, and tricks. I'm sure CYA much below 50 it was in fall at close. Will...

    First time opening inground pool

I updated my initial post. Using my backup filter that is cleaned after use. My summer filter was deep cleaned end of season before storage. Thanks on skimmer floater. I'll open nearly full on floater plate. Other than valve, I have no means to adjust main drain unless you're referencing the...

Understand on filter but needed to be addressed regardless. I'm not going to say giving the skimmer line valve a little extra tug or rechecking the pump's pipe nuts tightness didn't resolve... Or even saying a few extra words NSFW. Will check randomly until can fully open skimmer valve. Have...

    First time opening inground pool

Agree 100% on PVC ball valves. Checked skimmer and water was just sitting there. I also have a skimmer floater valve for a further safety backup and it's at 50% open. Went back to equipment and ran high psi. Noticed a small drip from large filter assembly lock. Shut everything down...

Held off with filling and awaiting more rains. Water is only about 2 inches above skimmer line so still need another few inches. Got all equipment connected. Lubed orings after storage. Removed all plugs. Closed skimmer valve. Only have main drain line open. Ran pump at 3000 to initiate prime...

    First time opening inground pool

The potable water is from a company that fills pools in our area. Pulls from a filtration plant that is virtually mineral-free. My calcium on initial fill last year was 60 that I had to bump up to 180 and naturally ended at 220 end of season (that was a whole other thread on calcium level in...

If need to clarify. I have 2 lines running into pump. One from main drain and the other from skimmer. I was only going to open the main drain line and maintain the Gizmo in skimmer for another month. Or are you suggesting to not run either until pool at proper fill level? Granted, I can pay a...

    First time opening inground pool

Mesh cover... and will re-cover after robot runs clear. I have a cordless pole vac to use on tanning ledge/steps. And plan on letting pool fill naturally... we have rainy season upcoming and if history repeats, I may even need to pump some out before hard opening. Thank you for info on the heat...

    First time opening inground pool

Water temp is hovering around 40 and we have warm spell this week and wanted to start a soft opening (run robot, connect pump, start circulating, etc). I know I can't activate the SWG until temp at least over 60 (iChlor manual says 55 operating temp). And I don't believe I should be running the...

Little brown-red type spores on hot tub jets

Received further response: Using sanitizer other than dichlor (such as Leslie's Chlor Brite) or MPS (Leslie's Fresh 'N Clear is very popular) will void the manufacturer's warranty. We do not support or recommend using pure chlorine for hot tub sanitation. Your local pool city retailer will be...

Little brown-red type spores on hot tub jets

So I wrote to Pool City (which is where I purchased hot tub)... they told me to check chemistry and I provided the following data: Current chemistry as of this morning (checked at least twice weekly or more frequently if heavy bather load): FC = 5.5 (was slammed over weekend to 12); use dichlor...

Little brown-red type spores on hot tub jets

While waiting for any replies, I pulled the info on the hot tub heater: Balboa 58104 heater, 4.0 kw 800 M7 stud. If I'm understanding the 800 means it is composed of nickel-iron-chromium alloy... and doesn't appear it's a very high-end unit/element. I did find this replacement... Hydro-Quip...

Little brown-red type spores on hot tub jets

I'll be starting pool soft opening this weekend. I may as well redrain hot tub so I can inspect the heating element. This only recently started in the last few weeks with nothing different being done to the routine maintenance and/or tub chemistry. I can't think of one time the pH was below 7.2...

Little brown-red type spores on hot tub jets

All the marks cleaned up rather easily with a baking soda paste. I removed panel and inspected heater (info this every 2 months) and noticed rust flakes forming on the heater contacts. This also cleaned up easily with the baking soda paste. I also applied di-electric rust preventative lube to...
