Full drain, Adding Borates vs. CSI danger-zone

Greetings, Did a full drain a month ago (CH was ~1100 - Phoenix :( ) and would like to add borates back in as I had in the past. My pH tends to climb quickly, so the borates were a blessing! One thing I'm struggling with is the CSI when I play around with the calculator... After plugging...

SWG Manufacturer vs. TFP Chem Recommendations

Greetings, Apologies for the post as it seems this question has been asked by a dozen others, but I haven't seen other posts yet with numbers quite like my manufacturer is recommending. Recently (past spring) added SWG. Looking to add borates (and understand it won't help me use less...

    Ocean-Like Salinity Levels

We're all good now. Drained and refilled ~25% water and we're more or less spot on now. Thanks again for all of the valuable input!

    Ocean-Like Salinity Levels

Well that was embarrassing. Thanks for catching my goof. Apparently in a 24hr period I had already forgotten the sample size. Now reading at 6200.

The only other thing I added was a bit of acid. Just tested a 1:4 dilution at 3600. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

    Ocean-Like Salinity Levels

Perhaps not, but close. I hope I'm not in a pickle here... Appreciate the review. Just added salt to my pool and it ended up off the charts. I am completely baffled as to how it got this high, and can't help but think there has to be some mistake. BEFORE: 4/9, 7pm 2.2 FC / 0 CC / 7.6 pH /...

Curiosity about the K-1766 Test Kit

I'm curious if someone who knows the chemistry of this kit can explain (in laymen's terms) why adding the Silver Nitrate to the indicator solution and salt water makes such a mess? It's interesting to see the sticky white mess it creates. Cleaning the test vial usually requires a bottle brush...

Transitioning to SWG - Testing Differences?

Thanks, all. @duraleigh - I do not have the OTO test, I've been using FAS/DPD. I'll grab the K-1766 lot to supplement what I've got, and will review the SWG water link to get everything readjusted. Thank you for the feedback!

Transitioning to SWG - Testing Differences?

Greetings, I currently have the Taylor K-2006 for testing my chlorine pool... I am in the process of installing a SWG. Can anyone tell me what testing chems/gear I need to supplement the K-2006 for salt? Do I just need the K-1766 kit (or even better, just the two bottles of R-0718 and...

    pH constantly on the rise

Sorry guys, I goofed. I quoted that TA from (a very poor) memory while on the road earlier. My replacement water TA is 170, it's the CH that is 300-325. Supply pH was 7.9 this morning; the pool keeps heading up to the neighborhood of 8.0-8.2. I just got home and dropped some MA in there to...

    pH constantly on the rise

Yep, it has an autofill (a must-have in Phoenix). Tap TA is 300-325.

    pH constantly on the rise

Thanks, Richard! Well that type of pool personality doesn't sound very pleasant. It's addicted to acid, and what a costly habit that is. Would you suggest I force the TA down to something lower, maybe 50-75? Or will adding a little bit of acid for small pH adjustments, over time, lower the...

    pH constantly on the rise

Greetings! I have been working on getting my water right, and recently dropped TA from 170 to 150 to 125 and now to 100 (at 100 for 2 weeks now). However, no matter what I do, my pH seems to be rising by about 0.2/day. I'll chase it back down with acid, and it immediately starts rising again...

    Any idea what this is?

Sure enough, it's a fiber light. Opened up the box above deck, and there is an ultra-bright light shining through a glass disk, and onto the fiber. On the glass disk and the end of the fiber, there was a TON of dirt/dust/grime caked on there - no wonder nothing was getting through. I...

    Any idea what this is?

It is covered (now) and yes, there appears to be water inside of the lens. So it just clicked... There is some weird and old-looking tower thing about 8' away that says "FiberStars" and model FS3 on it. This is the ONLY lens in the pool... In fact, I always thought it was weird that there...

    Any idea what this is?

The attached pic is while the pool was empty (grubby fingers included for size perspective). This is in the pool wall, on the opposite side of the pool from the IG skimmer, about 12-16" below the deck. There's nothing in the deck immediately above where this is, though the leveler is about 2'...

Complete drain and refill - Starting fresh

Thank you, Jason! I'm glad I found this site and forum, though the volumes of helpful info is a bit intimidating at first. :) Looking forward to the day (hopefully soon) I can read it all without going into mental overload. Since I don't have a decent kit yet, and since this is new water...

Complete drain and refill - Starting fresh

Greetings, New pool owner (well, existing pool, first-time pool owner). Did a complete drain of the pool on advice of Leslie's, then realized why they suggested that when going back in asking what chems I needed. Changing course. I'm waiting for my fancy new test kit in the mail, but...
