Hayward EcoStar vs. Pentair IntelliFlo VS - Pro & Cons?

Hi FLtraveler, Since the last post is almost 3 months old, I'm sure you've had your questions answered, but in case others are curious - I figured I throw up the answers for them. For something lower powered, Pentair makes a SuperFlo variable speed which is rated for 1.5hp..and to compare apples...

Auto-fill Leak? Not sure where to start

Yep. It's serious things. So the leak is at the bib, behind the valve. I replaced the valve for fun, but I can feel the leak behind the bib. I've been shaking my head all morning..so right now, my thoughts are to just manually fill the pool with a hose and down the road, budget to get it fixed...

Auto-fill Leak? Not sure where to start

So..I don't think I have a leak in the pool as I haven't noticed too much evaporation (it's pretty hot here in AZ right now). Yes, water leaks out of that hole only when the pool valve is turned on, but again..it's not a huge leak..more than a trickle..I suspect there may be a leak right behind...

Auto-fill Leak? Not sure where to start

Thanks for the quick reply. Out of curiosity, did you click the link? That should be a public link and you shouldn't need dropbox. If you get an error message, let me know and I'll repost. But back to the pool, yes, there's a valve to turn off the water and right now it's turned off. So..when I...

Auto-fill Leak? Not sure where to start

So my water bill skyrocketed last month and finally discovered it has something to do with my autofill. I did replace the float and when the float is pulled all the way up, I can still hear water flowing. So there's a hole next to the float and I noticed water coming out of it (not a full flow...

Re: Installing a SWG..Need some creative pipe re-routing adv oh..interesting..I guess the manual that is shipped is a little different than the online manual..it includes a couple other things... The pod must be installed upstream from the cell. It is recommended that the pod and cell be...

Installing a SWG..Need some creative pipe re-routing advice

Hi Guys, So I'm installing a SWG (Jandy Aquapure eI Plug-In model) and one of the main reasons for choosing this was easy install and price. After receiving the SWG, I discovered I need a min of 2 1/2 ft of return line and 10 inches on each end from elbows and such...

Starting from scratch with a swg

Okay, CYA is fully dissolved and I'll test it next week (7 days, right?)..Anyway, here are the latest numbers: FC 4 PH 7.5 TA 180 I haven't added salt nor installed the SWG yet..should I try to bring down the TA before adding the salt or does it matter? Oh! Also, the Water Balance for SWG says...

Starting from scratch with a swg

Oh dear..I'm looking in my swg (Jandy AquaPure Ei swg) and these are the optimum numbers: FC: 1-3ppm pH: 7.4-7.6 CYA: 10-50ppm TA: 80-120ppm CH: 175-400ppm I added a total of 8lbs of stablizer which should put me around 50ppm-60ppm of CYA...will that be okay or is my CYA too high?

Starting from scratch with a swg

A couple of dumb questions..Add CYA in a sock and place in pool return(s) or skimmer? If pool return...can I just put the CYA in say...multiple socks so it dissolves faster?

Starting from scratch with a swg

Thanks Bob and Jason, Okay, added 64oz of 10% liquid chlorine last night. Will start adding CYA today (do I need to let filter run 24 hours?) while I add it. So after reading all the posts with tabs, I know I shouldn't use them, but would it be a good idea to use them here since I want to...

Starting from scratch with a swg

Alright! For the numbers...drum roll please... FC-0 (Chlorine Drop Test - I'm guessing 0 because the water never turned pink) PH - 7.8 TA - 160 CH - 230 CYA - 0 (I'm guessing 0 because I could always see the black dot) Salt - ? I guess I need a salt tester. What do I now? Also, I haven't...

Starting from scratch with a swg

Yes, 5 40lbs of solar salt..okay..so with a SWG, I should be between 50-80ppm, correct? So should I just add another 4 lbs of stabilizer for a total of 8lbs or would I just add 4lbs and check. Also, the SWG says that it should have 4000ppm of salt..so do I need 14bags?!?! David

Starting from scratch with a swg

Just wanted to give a quick update...I ended up draining the whole pool as I just didn't have the time to drain half/refill, redrain/refill, anyway..I had a couple hiccups..I had to replace the light fixture as well as repair a crack..SO..the pool is currently being filled (halfway point) and I...

Starting from scratch with a swg

Okay!! I got my test kit. Since I'm going to drain, I assume I'm only concerned about CYA...so I tested CYA and here are some pics. There's not a mark of where my CYA is at..it seems it's halfway to the 100 mark so my questions is...how much do I need to drain? Thanks! David

Starting from scratch with a swg

Thanks!! Still patiently waiting for the kit..I'm was pretty set on doing a full drain as I kind of letting the pool run its course this winter, but I am starting to think partial drain..Anyway, when I get the kit, I'll do a full test and post and then go from there. Again, thanks!!! David

Starting from scratch with a swg

Thanks Linen! Still eagerly waiting for the kit..hopefully tomorrow. I'll definitely post my results. Thanks UnderWaterVanya, I've read a lot pools "floating". I've drained once before without any problems (didn't even know about "floating" prior)..anyway, if it didn't float before..could it...

Starting from scratch with a swg

Hi, I've been reading the posts on this forum and pool school for a solid week now and I believe I am on information overload, but one thing I definitely decided was to quit listening to Leslie's about all the chemicals I need. Last year had a huge algae problem after adding large quantities of...
