    Back up and running...SWG Question

I appreciate the reply and help! Also, please don't tell my mother (former teacher) that I don't know how many hours are in the day apparently, haha. Yes, the schedule runs the pump 24 hours, I'm just intellectually challenged it would appear.

    Back up and running...SWG Question

Hello friends! I'm really happy to be back for another season! Pool was opened up last week and I've been working on getting all of my levels dialed in. One general question I had is, and I know there isn't a de facto rule because there are so many factors, but... Assuming that all of my...

    Thank you!

Just wanted to extend a heartfelt "THANK YOU" to this Community. We had our pool installed in March and I am a first-time pool owner. Everyone here was so helpful and it made our first year pretty stress-free. Thanks!

    First Time Closing

So I used the liquid chlorine to get the level up to 24ppm. From what I've read, I'm supposed to let the chlorine fall naturally over the next several days (closing is on Monday). I dropped my SWG to 10%. Looking at my pool specs, does that sound about right? I also removed the solar cover so...

    First Time Closing

Thanks for the reply! My FC was 8ppm yesterday and, according to Pool Math, it would take my SWG 60 hours running at 100% to get my FC up to 24ppm. I do have one, 128oz. bottle of 10% liquid chlorine. Should I add that to my water to help bring my FC up faster?

    First Time Closing

Just had our pool installed this Spring and we have a company coming to close it on Monday. Been reading through some posts to try and figure out what I need to do from the chemicals side of things. I've turned off my heater so that the water temperature can start falling (it's currently at 83...

AlphaMAX Mesh Safety Cover (and related questions)

Agreed. I just didn't see safety covers anywhere on the website.

AlphaMAX Mesh Safety Cover (and related questions)

They sent me a PDF of what looks like a screenshot from a cell phone. There is a website - onlyalpha.com but I don't see any safety covers on there. The screen shot says that 5x5 spacing has a 12 year warranty and 3x3 spacing has a 15 year warranty. I don't know what 5x5 or 3x3 spacing means...

AlphaMAX Mesh Safety Cover (and related questions)

We recently got quotes for a safety cover, pool closing, etc. It's our first season, so we need the whole thing. The quote we intended to go with was an AlphaMAX Mesh cover with 99% shade. Like always, came here to see what the word on this cover is and I found nothing. Does anyone have any...

    Vacation Help

Put in 24 fl. oz. of acid last night. I used 31.45% (20° Be) Muriatic Acid. I also turned up the SWCG to 60%. Just tested pH and Chlorine. pH was 7.6 (down from 8.2) and Chlorine was 7.0 (up from 6.0). I'll probably add a little more acid tonight just to drop the pH down a smidge more...

    Vacation Help

Ha, should've realized this before. I've got 40% and 60%. I set it on 60% because I figured the higher the better. It does go all the way up to 100% 😁

    Vacation Help

I've been bringing it down this week with it only running at 10% and had the water exposed to the sun, so 50% sounds about right. Would I still need the floater if I put it at that level?

    Vacation Help

My FC has fluctuated from very high to very low, but that's probably because I'm still trying to figure out the SWCG and what percentage it should be on. It was really high last week, so I dropped the SWCG percentage down and left the pool exposed to the sun all week. CYA has been stable all...

    Vacation Help

Hey friends! We're leaving on our first week-long vacation since getting our pool installed. I've been doing a lot of reading this week, so I appreciate all the help already given. I did my weekly testing today, here were the numbers: pH - 8.2 FC - 6.0 ppm CC - 0.0 ppm CH - 250 ppm TA - 90...

    Calcium Hardness in Fiberglass Pool

It's my understanding that CH isn't as big of a thing to monitor in fiberglass pools. Both my installer and a company I had test my water at the beginning on a spectrometer. Is that correct? It tested today at 150ppm and Pool Math says the "ideal range" is 350-550. I haven't done anything for...

    CYA Fluctuations

Just a general question, no specifics. Can CYA increase without adding anything to the water? Or does a CYA "increase" without chemicals just exhibit an error with the testing? I know the CYA testing is somewhat the most "subjective" (when exactly does the black dot disappear?), so if you...

    Flow too low for heater...

That's what I was kind of getting at: Is it as simple as the water flow really just isn't enough at 1800rpm or it SHOULD be running at 1800rpm so something else must be going on. No one has jumped in to say that 1800rpm should be enough, so it must not be. I'll ramp up the RPM when I need to...

    Flow too low for heater...

Quick post: My heater is saying that the water flow rate is too low to operate when my pump is running at 1800rpm. The max on it is 3450rpm. Filter doesn't need cleaned out. Pump is a good 50 feet (maybe more) from the skimmer. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Concrete Streaks and Form Residuals

So I have concrete streaks and a film from the sticky stuff that the concrete forms had on them all around the edge of my pool. I bought the standard Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, but it didn't do anything. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Third Week - Getting Dialed In

Tested today as my son is having friends over on Saturday. If I need to add any chemicals, I wanted to do it today. pH - 7.8 FC - 5.5 CC - 0 TC - 5.5 Calcium Hardness - 200 Total Alkalinity - 100 CYA - 50 Salt - 3400 Water Temp - 72 degrees Pool Math is recommending 30 lbs of Calcium Chloride...

Second Week Ever Testing - Next Steps?

What production rate (not sure if that's the right term) should my SWG be on? Right now it's only at 2% because my chlorine had been high (much higher than the 7.5ppm it's at currently).

Second Week Ever Testing - Next Steps?

My testing kit showed 3400 ppm (assuming that I'm doing it correctly, haha). The SWG does have the Red light on indicating that the salt level is low.

Second Week Ever Testing - Next Steps?

Thanks to everyone for the help. Signature has been updated and completed the rest of the items for setting up my account. So, where does that leave me, haha? Don't trust the SWG Manual it sounds like. Chlorine and CYA are fine for right now. So I'm just adding some salt to bring that up to...

Second Week Ever Testing - Next Steps?

My SWG Manual recommends 2.0 to 4.0 ppm and a CYA of 30 - 50 ppm. So they are both high according to the Manual. Also, I'm new.

Second Week Ever Testing - Next Steps?

    My SWG is a Pentair Intellichlor IC20. This is what it has for "Optimum Pool Water Chemistry Conditions for Salt Water Pools": Free Chlorine - 2.0 - 4.0 ppm Combined Chlorine - None pH - 7.2 - 7.8 CYA - 30 - 50 ppm TA - 80 - 120 ppm Calcium - 200 - 400 ppm Salt - 3600 - 4500 ppm (ideal 3600 ppm)
