    Replacing Pentair Globrite

I have a Globrite I need to replace and happy doing it myself, but are there any videos or step by step? Do I need to lower the water to below the niche? The one I'm replacing is on a shelf about 4" below surface so wouldn't be a big deal. Man, these lights suck. Any leads on the best price for...

    WaterGuru - A Test

yeah, it's not the best design, but it's just a square piece of stone and no cracks 6 years in. I can't imagine it would be hard to replace. Looking at it again there's a standard circular hole w/in the skimmer so hopefully this can slide in flush.

    WaterGuru - A Test

@IceShadow Thanks for all the valuable insight! I just ordered one. Question - my cover is actually a square cut piece of lueders limestone - is there a world where I can remove the circle top and somehow attach what's left to the underside of my skimmer cover? I'm not sure the square adapter...

Any glass tile survivors out there?

I found this thread deciding what to do with my Oceanside Glasstile - it hasn't fared well in 5 years. We went with Oceanside pipeline interlocking. Looked great for the first 6 months and then we started getting crazy buildup on grout and tile - like a white something that won't come off...

    New build in Austin

I suspect this project is done, but I'm also in Austin and used the Globrites from Pentair - they are basically garbage. I've replaced all of them multiple times now over the years - at least most of this is covered by warranty. Also, the lights pointing up? not a good look [sorry, I see these...

    Replacing Globrite LED pool lights

I would get Pentair to issue a warranty service on these - I've had at least 5 replaced now over the years. They're total garbage.

    Globrites vs Intellibrites (Pentair Lighting)

So I went with the 4 Glo-Brites and 2 failed w/in the first week. They were promptly replaced and poor packaging was to blame (cracks let in water). But so far I'm pretty happy with the light output and colors. I have them come on at night for an hour when we're most likely to be sitting out and...

Austin TX - a few question for new build

Went with Millennium Pools (Blake French) - still don't have the final from COA, but pretty much done. Blake's been good to work with and he's done a lot of stuff at cost for me (automation/wireless pieces). I compared with OceanQuest (my runner up) and they were pretty much in line, but all the...

Potential leak on new build - detection methods?

Thanks. I started the bucket test earlier and shut off autofill so we'll see what happens. I want to run it normally to really see what I'm losing.

Austin TX - a few question for new build

we're wrapping up our first (and hopefully last) pool in Austin. My advice is to go with a good builder that uses the equipment/materials you want (in my case, Pentair) and don't worry about lifetime warranties. The reality is they simply aren't going to fix something 15-30 or even 80 yrs down...

Potential leak on new build - detection methods?

We're wrapping up our build and everything was fine until we noticed an area of our stone side wall was a little wet. I didn't think much of it as we'd been rebuilding the irrigation system and figured a head or something sprayed up, but after we started running the Polaris (3 weeks after...

    Globrites vs Intellibrites (Pentair Lighting)

Thanks. I have the Pentair guy calling me about this. I think I'm just more irked that I explicitly called out the Intellibrites (I didn't know globrites existed) and he's simply changing it do a less expensive product. Maybe he can do 3 in the pool, 1 shelf, 1 spa and it'll be ok. The reality...

    Globrites vs Intellibrites (Pentair Lighting)

My PB is looking to use Globrites on my pool despite me originally stating I wanted the Intellibrite 5G LEDs -he says given my main pool area depth 3.5-5' and dimensions 11X20, 2 globrites should be just fine. These new lights from Pentair appear to be for "shallow applications" like shelves...

    Lifetime warranty on shell

    Lifetime warranty on shell

Good to know. Thanks for the all the input, guys. Angie's List is my goto spot for contractors, but there was only one PB on there and although a nice guy, ended up having some weak designs.

    Lifetime warranty on shell

I've chosen a builder but he doesn't offer a "Lifetime Warranty" - some of the runners up did, but I wonder if this is really something to consider. My PB says that a lifetime warranty just doesn't make sense - he can't be addressing something that may come up do to ground shifting 50 yrs...

Design phase - beach, tanning shelf, - need advice

I kinda feel like this too. So 9-12" - can you explain this to me? I take it there's a first step and then a sloped area from 9 to 12? Just trying to visualize. thanks.

Design phase - beach, tanning shelf, - need advice

Ok, so we thought we had our design done - small (24X11) gunite pool, rectangle, spa, and a few steps the meander about and create seating - with a couple swim out benches at the "deep end" (5 ft). Anyway, we looked at a pool recently with a "beach" (no slope to entry), but 6" deep shelf with...

Auto Cover info - CoverStar details?

PB came over today - we're going to put spa-side - and yes, it does run lengthwise, but the spa is a little tucked away behind part of the house and offers some better options for the housing/elec access. It will be under matching limestone coping so should look fine. Getting excited - just...

Auto Cover info - CoverStar details?

Since I have a knowledgeable audience here, I have another autocover question. My pool and spa are basically 1 rectangle with a "dam wall" that the cover would slide over - should I have the cover roll up on the spa side or pool side? in other words, If I'm sitting in the spa with a margarita...

Auto Cover info - CoverStar details?

Thanks for the insight on the CoverStar product and the link - that's a much better website. I'm hearing more good things about CS so I'll probably go that way - I was really just curious why it was hard to get an real detail on their product.

Auto Cover info - CoverStar details?

I'm having trouble getting any real details on automatic covers - aside form the CoverPools site, http://www.coverpools.com/pool-cover-sy ... O7Zo2-x99U there really isn't a lot of good info on CoverStar or any other companies? In fact, what are the other companies? My PB uses CoverStar and...

In design phase, looking for non-SWCG system to supplement

Re: In design phase, looking for non-SWCG system to suppleme Yeah, I checked the prices and you're right, a good stenner pump is likely the better long term solution.

In design phase, looking for non-SWCG system to supplement

Re: In design phase, looking for non-SWCG system to suppleme ok. I'll look into the peristaltic pump as well. In my situation, I'll be running the VS pump 24/7 likely and will have no booster pump for the spa so things will be relatively static. I'm also considering an automatic cover instead...

In design phase, looking for non-SWCG system to supplement

Re: In design phase, looking for non-SWCG system to suppleme You've basically sold me on the Liquidator (or someone has) and as my pool is under 10K gallons, I think it will work well for me. If I were approaching 25K gal, I would look into a peristaltic system. This may seem like a dumb...

In design phase, looking for non-SWCG system to supplement

Re: In design phase, looking for non-SWCG system to suppleme Well, my house is probably 80% limestone and the patio in the back yard is also limestone which is basically forcing my hand in doing a sort of stone coping to keep things uniform. I don't want to have to think about washing off stone...

In design phase, looking for non-SWCG system to supplement

Re: In design phase, looking for non-SWCG system to suppleme Thanks. This is the first I'm hearing of such a solution. I'll do some research. Would you say this might fall under the category of a "hack" or something a standard PB wouldn't be willing to do?

I humbly ask you to opine on a new Central Texas build.

I'm super new here (also in austin), but would NEVER pay for anything up front in full. My latest bid had a breakdown with percentages for each phase of the project - with the final 3% (Plaster) and 2% (Final walk through) - this seems like the way to approach it. Unless it's a CASH discount...

Austin, Tx area...please help with PB recommendations

Good stuff, guys. Thanks! I'm looking to do a pool at some point soon and am not working with a lot of real estate or free impervious coverage. I've pretty much decided on my design/location and am keeping things simple (I kinda have to given my limits on coverage). I've spoken to a few...
