    Dealing with high calcium

One thing I'm gleaning from everything is that a low-7s pH can really help keep the calcium under control, even if it's high.

    Dealing with high calcium

There's a water softener in the house, but it's way out of reach of the pool. I normally top off the pool with one of the backyard water hoses. Kinda strange, though - I've read all these symptoms of high CH, and our pool doesn't have any of them. No scaling, no cloudiness, etc. water is...

    Dealing with high calcium

I normally don't have any issues maintaining our pool chemistry. I used liquid chlorine and muriatic from Leslie's. Alkalinity is around 90-110, Ph in the low/middle 7's, free Chlorine 4-5. All is good, the white gunite is spotless, the water is crystal clear and great to swim in. This...

    Bad experience with Aiper

Our pool was completed last August. It came with an Aiper Seagull Pro robotic cleaner. We've had issues with the device, and my experience with Aiper customer support has been very disappointing. I wanted to relay those experiences here, and possible get some reactions and maybe advice for a...

How to "touch up" little scuff-like marks on white gunite

Thanks for the replies. I'm personally a little leery of any solution involving abrasion. Makes me kinda jittery to think about removing plaster, even this tiny bit! If there's nothing to cover them with, I'll seriously consider just leaving them alone. Again, thanks.

How to "touch up" little scuff-like marks on white gunite

OK, got some pics here. These marks aren't jet black, but some are darker than others. There are some 12-15 of them scattered around the pool, in no particular pattern. They are 1/2" to 1" long, maybe a couple ar 1 1/2". Pool was finished about 5 months ago, they've been there since then...

    Betta SE Plus

Kind of a late reply, I apologize. Our Betta Plus is wonderful, but usually stops working an hour or so after dark. One reason for that might be a huge tree that casts a shadow over about 75% of the pool several hours a day.

How to "touch up" little scuff-like marks on white gunite

    Sure, I can do some pictures, will get to it later today and post. Sanding lightly with one of those abrasive sponges might be a good idea. Water's about 43 degrees right now, though, so I'll hold off on that... (-;

How to "touch up" little scuff-like marks on white gunite

We love our pool, all is good. There are some scattered little marks on it, sort of like scuff marks, about 1/2" to 1" long. I'd say about a dozen in the whole pool. I have NO idea where they're from. They're not scratches; you can't feel them. The pool company guy said don't worry about it...

What pump speed with a heater???

Just wondering what your take was on pump speed with a pool heater. We have a Hayward heat pump unit and have just started using it. The goal is to raise the pool temperature as quickly as possible. If you run the pump at a high speed, you move more water, but the water presumably doesn't...

    Storing pool chemicals

I store the acid in the garage, and the chlorine and test kit in a hall closet just inside the garage entrance. Chlorine is really sensitive to storage conditions.

Need help with Hayward HeatPro HP31005T heat pump

Our pool came with this heat pump, the Hayward HeatPro HP31005T. There are only 3 buttons on it: power, "-" and "+". It says "OFF" normally, and when you press the power button, it's supposed to say "ON." Then you use the other buttons to raise the temp up and down. But ours just sits there...

    Who uses the Orenda app?

Seems like all of the local pool techs around here swear by the Orenda app. It looks very convenient; you enter your test results and your desired results and it tells you exactly how much of this or that you need to add. It also calculates the LSI. It certainly makes the pool tech's job a lot...

    Time between adding chemicals

Still not getting an answer to the question. Say the pH is high, like 8.0 or 8.2. I add the calculated amount of muriatic acid to lower it. Should I wait X amount of time, then retest, then if it is correct, then go on with testing/adjusting chlorine? That "X amount of time" is the question...

    Time between adding chemicals

There are several aspects of maintaining pool chemistry that seem to be all over the map; one of those things where you ask 10 people and get 10 different answers. One of these is "how long to wait between chemicals?" This regards three basic adjustments: alkalinity, pH and chlorine, being...

Where do you set your pump?

I'm sorry, but I have another question. The Hayward pump runs on a 4/8/12 hour schedule. According to the Hayward documentation, you can restart this schedule by shutting off power to the pump, then restarting it. Is it OK to do this by turning off the circuit breaker, then turning it back...

Where do you set your pump?

On this pump, the slowest speed, "6" is 40% of full speed. I'm thinking of going to Speed "4" which is 50% for 12 hours, then Speed "6" which is 40% for 12 hours, then just kicking it up to high speed for a couple of hours when brushing and adding chemicals. This is a smaller pool, and there is...

Where do you set your pump?

I have a 1.85 HP Pentair XE variable speed pump, brand new. I'm just wondering where you people like to set yours on the 4/8/12 hour schedule. On our new gunite pool, barely a month old, I have it set on 4 hrs. @ "2", 8 hrs. @ "4" and 12 hrs. @ "6" Speed settings are 1 to 6, where 1 is...

Are Leslie's chlorine tabs really better?

Got a bottle of test strips that seem to work pretty well. I also got a Pentair Rainbow kit, in the blue plastic box with 5 little bottles of reagents. It's a waste, though, for two reasons: 1. It's supposed to be stored in a cool place. The early crews (excavation, rebar) left it lying out...

Are Leslie's chlorine tabs really better?

Thanks, I'm a little leery of using tabs. My "pool school" experience with our new pool has been rather disappointing. It was some kid, allowing only an hour to cover EVERYTHING: pumps, settings, filters, chemistry, reagents, balancing, cleaning, etc. I kept him there for almost 3 hours, and...

Are Leslie's chlorine tabs really better?

I've hearing that while Leslie's chlorine tabs are more expensive than the big box stuff, they're worth it because they last twice as long. True?
