    Post-Harvey test numbers

Remind me of the order we need to adjust? My numbers: FC 2 (been bleaching since my salt is:) salt: was 1000 but I've added 125lbs of salt (yay costco with their cheap salt) so will probably back into operating range once it distributes. CH 80 CYA 15 Alk 110 PH - was the charts high now about...

    Help identifying my panel (?)

Thanks again all who helped. I replaced the relay board that had gone bad which was easy to do except with three things going into the relay board it was impossible to fit the wires tightly. I ended up tying the heater, salt system and pump wires together with those electrical connector screw...

    Help identifying my panel (?)

back up a sec....I just re-read what Pool Clown wrote and I think I"m misunderstanding. The circuit is line, load, line, load (etc, etc) from top to bottom. The top four screws are the line/load line/load for the pump/filter/cell (that doesn't work). The next set of 4 screws is for the pool...

    Help identifying my panel (?)

Thank you to everyone that replied. Through your efforts I fixed it!! (well, almost at least I know what part I need to fix it). There was no power to the pump, the salt system, and the heater because the relay they were attached to went out. Almost like Pool Clown said - relay 2&4 worked...

    Help identifying my panel (?)

And in case this helps. I think the panel on the top right isn't transferring power correctly - let me know if you disagree. (I disconnected the salt system to test in case you are wondering what those wires are hanging by themselves). The outside of the box (not any of the guts) has a date...

    Help identifying my panel (?)

All - first thank you so much for existing. I've been lurking here for 5 years and this has been my go-to for, well, everything. So, we had a minor emergency last week where my automatic valve didn't stop where it needed to (pump was on....) and we had to replace the (16 year old) filter...

after recharging DE - should your pool be cloudy (at all)

Quick update. I decided to go ahead and try to take it apart again. If finally got the top off the fins by using a hammer and a piece of wood- tapping upwards with the hammer onto the wood so that I didn't damage the plastic bits. It finally gave - whew! Anyway, noticed that most of my fins...

after recharging DE - should your pool be cloudy (at all)

Background 1st and most importantly, thanks to everyone that is on here - I've learned so much from this forum. I've been doing TFP for 3 years and it has been, well, trouble free. 2nd....Although I've been doing the chemical balance thing for so long, today was the first day I tried to...

    How much Acid with Bleach?

I was wondering if anyone knows - all things being equal - how much acid (31.45%) you should have to add with bleach (8.25%) to keep the pH constant? (important note: I don't mean to mix the two together as I prefer not to die from fumes or whatever) I just want to know how much I should be...

Test left out - color changed

So I do my routine tests as a part of a SLAM but leave all the chemicals in the vial (lazy...and I was up at an ungodly hour to test). Anyway, overnight test has FC 15 and 0 cc but left it there and this morning (ok, was morning before too - but now everyone else awake) and the chemicals/water...

I should have been more clear that this is a hypothetical question. Any chem. teachers out there?

    Probably a dumb question but...

Can someone please explain the chemistry behind FC and CC? (or just tell me where I am wrong here in the below assumptions). If you start with a TC of 10, where FC = 6, and CC = 4. Then you add 1 ppm bleach then (assuming pitch black/no sunlight effect and no time, yet, to work on killing...

    help!

There is no way it is zero - I'd leave the floater out until you get your kit. The vast majority of us started BBB with a CYA level way too high and ended up draining

    help!

No idea about the timing of the bleach - it depends on the amount of debris/algae in your pool. In the mean time, I'd never let the color get below the max on your test kit. It really, really makes a difference to have the real testing chemicals - you will appreciate it when they come. Then...

    Pool Heater Cost Question

I have no idea how our rates compare to yours - it costs me $100 per month to heat my pool in the winter. My guess is I am not heating it quite 10 degrees (we live in Houston) - maybe 7-8. I have a 30,000 gal pool. Hope that helps.

    help!

Stay on top of your filter pressure - as the bleach kills off the algae it will come out in your filter. Check your chlorine levels every so often and add more bleach as it goes down. Be very patient...

Trying to figure out new pool

The Far skimmer has stronger suction? I'd expect the near skimmer to have stronger suction - because friction loss is greater with longer tubing. Interesting My guess is that is DE coming out of your filter - maybe someone smarter than me can tell you if this means you have a broken screen...

    Question for NW Georgia Folks...

LOL - that is the bright side - I haven't been bitten by a mosquito in a VERY long time. I just thought that meant I tasted bad in my old age. :-)
  24. S

    help!

Yes, but you will end up adding the bleach anyway :-) I'd grab a sample (first), add the bleach (second) and then do the ph test inside where it isn't 8 million degrees. You can always adjust your pH again if necessary (but you probably wont need to right away since they used the pool...

    Question for NW Georgia Folks...

Beware....us drought stricken folks in Texas know that this big yellow thing chases away friendly clouds. Please send the rain here! You can keep the yellow thing for a while ;-)

    help!

Pour in deep end, near a return so it gets distributed quickly - really, really try not to splash any on you - so get your pouring container as close to (but not in) the water as possible so it can't splash back.
  27. S

    help!

did you keep the receipt for the CYA? That isn't something I'd buy. CYA gets so high on its own when you occasionally use the pucks to chlorinate instead of using bleach (like for when you go out of town). Just a thought...if you haven't opened it.

    Heaters

Not really an answer to your question but....I have a gas heater and love it - really extends the pool season (and natural gas here is cheap so heating the pool is a reasonable thing to do year round for us). The only advice I'd have is to make sure that you plumb it so that you can bypass the...

High CYA thinking of switching to the BBB

Just a thought - if your chlorine level is lowish then you can might be able to rig up your cleaning hose to re-route your waterfall feature so that it will drain into your yard rather than waste the water in the sewer. If you are going to do that, just make sure your filter pump is off and...
