Thank you again for your help!! This was just what I was needing!!

High filter pressure with no DE added

Pressure at Speed 3, 2350 RPM, is 14 PSI (exactly half the pressure of "4"!). What's the recommended pool circulation "speed"? This is all new to me. Thank you!

High filter pressure with no DE added

Speed 4 is 3110 RPM Speed 3 is 2350 RPM. These speeds are what was set on the pump when I bought the house last year. Is 4 too high? I've never owned a variable speed pump before, my previous pool had a single speed pump. Thanks!

High filter pressure with no DE added

Thanks ajw22! I have soaked the grids, but never acid washed them. Thanks for the link. I'm reading through it now. The cloudy water in the hot tub was really cloudy, like sitting in white milk. Then in 5 minutes it was all gone, only to come back again, from the jets, after maybe 10 minutes...

High filter pressure with no DE added

Thank you wireform! I confirmed that the gauge does drop to zero when I power off the pump. I followed your advice, and am replacing the gauge, just to be completely sure it's accurate.

High filter pressure with no DE added

Just another update: Tonight I disassembled and cleaned the filter grid again, and this time I only added 5lbs of DE. Exact same scenario. Pressure went from 18 PSI to 28 PSI. I don't understand how my filter could have the same pressure from adding only 5lbs DE when yesterday I added the full...

High filter pressure with no DE added

Was opening my pool this weekend, and I before I added any DE (filter grids had been thoroughly cleaned last fall), the pressure seemed very high. Around 18 PSI. When I added DE (~8lbs for my FNS 60), it shot up to 28 PSI. I ran it for a day at 28 PSI (which I kinda now regret), then...

    Best 2 speed pump option

Many thanks, Mark. Just what I was looking for. I did not realize that AG pumps are not usually self priming. That would have been a hard lesson to learn after installation! LOL. Appreciate that info. I think I'm ready to pull the trigger. Thanks again!

    Best 2 speed pump option

Thank you mas985! Really appreciate the reply and the details you provided. Makes perfect sense, and especially compelling on point number 1. On point 2, does the skimming really stop working if you go below a certain rpm? With my old pump, if I set the valve to wide open on the skimmers, the...

    Best 2 speed pump option

Thanks, Zea3 Any pumps I should stay away from? Are there magnet based pumps I should look for, that would be recommended? Any particular features I should look for? Do some pumps have better lid removal options or better baskets? There are so many options on the market, I'm somewhat...

    Best 2 speed pump option

Last summer my ancient 2 HP AO Smith Centurian pump started making a very, very loud noise, and our power meter started spinning at hyper speed! Our electrical costs soured by over 2x. A process of elimination (plus the obvious deafening noise) indicates to us that we need a new pump. The pump...

    Energy Efficient Pump Recommendation

Jason, that is exactly what I was looking for, thx so much. Here in GA I pay around 8 cents per kWh. I guess I shouldn't complain that no utility here offers rebates for the vs pumps. I have an old AO Smith Century Centurian (still running) that costs me around $80+ a month to run. I'm trying...
