    solar cover woes..HELP

Hi Dan, Someone on here suggested this approach to me and it's been working well for us. Cut your cover into sections. I have a 30' round and cut my cover in half. I also though about cutting it in thirds, but this seems to work pretty well. I was unwilling to spend the money on a reel...

    Anyone using a "solar saddle"?

cthuskies, Well, I wish I could show you, but unfortunately my busy schedule got in the way. I've decided to not drill thru the top rails, but instead I've made a template for a plate (made from sheet aluminum) that will secure to my posts and then attach to the u brackets. I'm planning on...

Question on Winter Mesh Cover for AGP w/surrounding Deck

I have a mesh cover, and I'm in a very open area where the wind comes whipping thru in the winter. My cover became a ballon when the air got under it. It looked like a giant jiffy pop  . I've tried clips, but that didn't help. I'm thinking of using cover wrap, or weighting it down...

Filling the gap between pool top rail & deck

Thanks for the good ideas. I'll have to make a run by the home center... The other reason I'd like to fill that is that I ran my deck boards parallel to the middle top rail and it varies by 1/4" from one side to the other. It's one of those things that bugs me when I look at it. Bob

Filling the gap between pool top rail & deck

I finally finished my deck. I left a decent gap between the top rail & the deck so I could get my winter cover on (1.5" maybe). As I'm looking at it , I can't help but think that somebody might catch thier toe in it. I thought I saw a pool catalog once that had something that was in tee...

28ft vs 24ft ABG pool (Bigger always better?)

Well, I have a 30', and while it's nice and roomy for the kids and all thier friends, the bigger you go, the harder it is to deal with. My biggest problem was finding a solar reel that would work for a 30' round. Most aren't made for something that big. I was about to go the route of building...

    DIY solar cover reel?

I decided to try something called a solar saddle which are essentially hooks which hang on the side of the pool. The cover folds into the hooks accordion style. You can find my thread here: http://www.troublefreepool.com/anyone-using-a-solar-saddle-t7708.html?hilit=solar%20saddle I haven't...

    Pump dying?

I actually managed to resolve my issue, I just didn't have time to post back. The morale of the story is don't assume a mechanical problem when you might have an electrical problem. I tore the whole pump down and didn't find any problems. However, the pump was plugged into an extension cord...

    Pump dying?

Must be the time for pump failures. I see a whole bunch of them posted all of a sudden. I have a 2HP aquatools pump driven by an AO Smith motor. It ran overnight & tripped the circuit breaker. I reset it and went back out and backwashed the filter. No problem so far. Shut it off and turned...

    Anyone using a "solar saddle"?

Hi Russ, Thanks for replying. Mine arrived last week and I haven't had a chance to install it yet. I took a look at the mounting bracket and it looks like it shouldn't be hard to mount it to the post using some angle brackets. I've been looking for some stainless steel ones so they won't...

    Anyone using a "solar saddle"?

OK. I found a site where I got this shipped for $70, so I figure it's worth a try. When I receive it I'll post my results. I found installation instructions online and the only potential problem I can see so far is they want you to drill through the top rails to mount the hooks. I'm not...

    Anyone using a "solar saddle"?

I was about to start building a custom reel for my solar cover when I came across this solar saddle. I traded my heavy cover for an 8 mil one so this could actually be useful. Thoughts? I saw it here: http://www.waterwarehouse.com/poolsuppl ... addle.html Thanks, Bob

    Liquidator install w/o drilling?

I bought a couple tees with slip fit on the top/bottom and a thread at the tee. That should make it pretty easy to disconnect come winter. Bob

    Liquidator install w/o drilling?

That's an interesting idea. I'll have to check that out. Bob

    Liquidator install w/o drilling?

I ordered my liquidator and it came today. I have an AG pool with PVC plumbing so that's not an issue. Rather than drill into the existing line, I would rather cut it and put a pvc tee in. Has anyone done this or would there be a problem doing the install this way? Thanks, Bob

Show me your hard plumbing for AG pool and solar -

I have my AG all hard plumbed (with unions). You definately want a way to take things apart. I'll try to take a photo of it tonight. I'm in WI so we got nailed with a lot of rain and it's a little wet back there. The only place I have flex pipe is where it connects to the solar panels. I...

    DIY solar cover reel?

Deflection == bowing. Pipe size is typically discussed from an inner diameter perspective. I think I might look around for an 8 mil cover. The one I have is a 12mil. It's actually the second one since the pool store gave me a new cover when the reel they sold me failed. It actually...

    DIY solar cover reel?

I've seen pillow block bearings at the farm stores around me (farm & fleet, TSC). Also, McMaster Carr http://www.mcmaster.com/ sells them too, but they are not cheap. In the end still better & less expensive than a commercial reel. You could probably bolt a flat piece of lumber to the top of...

    DIY solar cover reel?

NMWMNMom, What size & type of conduit did you use for the actual "reel" part. Thinwall or rigid conduit? Aluminum, galvanized, or steel? Inquiring minds want to know. :-D Axl, I think your going to have trouble with your idea. I suspect that with that much weight, and the amount of...

    DIY solar cover reel?

What size type/conduit So, I'm ready to build one of these reels but I have some questions. I wanted to go the route that Matt4x4 did and use 4" AL irrigation tube, but have been looking since last summer and haven't been able to source any. I guess the next route would be to use conduit. I...

1st test with the TF-100 kit

Rechecked CC and its 0 now with FC at 2.5. I added another gallon of bleach. THat should get me between 4-5 ppm. T/A & PH dropped a little with the muriatic. Need to pick-up & add some more though. Bob

    Chlorease

I bought one of these at the end of last season, but it's still in the box. I was going to add salt to my 30' AG anyhow so I though I'd try it. I have about 23k gallons so it likely won't generate enough chlorine. Is it possible to supplement with bleach or is that a no-no?

1st test with the TF-100 kit

My kit came today so I had some fun playing junior chemist :-D Here's the numbers: FC 1.5 CC 1 TC 2.5 PH 7.8 T/A 150 CYA about 40 as best I can tell. temp 77 This is a 30' round AG (about 24k gallons) Water is nice & clear. I obviously need to get my T/A & PH down so I'm adding muriatic...
