Just noticed this week that the water level in my hot tub is decreasing. Found this leak: Easy fix? What to do? Thanks!

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

Well, that answers that question. It's back to not heating. New heater ordered.

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

Just to be clear. The high limit is connected again. It is now heating and maintaining 102, turning off when it hits 103, turning back on when it drops to 101.

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

update: So I turned off the hot tub at the breaker and disconnected the two high temp connections from the pressure switch, and reconnected them to themselves, then put them back on their correct connections and restarted the hot tub. Heat came on, so I bumped it up 2 degrees from default to...

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

Well, had spa repair man come out. He replaced gfci and pressure switch, but he thinks it's the high limit switch, which in a cal spas 2100 is inside the heater. Also, in these cal spa heaters, the heating element is on the outside of the tube, never in contact with the water, which he says is...

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

To clarify the above post, I am still running the hot tub on a regular, non-gfci breaker. I did receive the gfci breaker the other day, I just haven't had a chance to install it. - - - Updated - - - Thanks, Jim. Should I install the GFCI breaker before I install the new pressure switch?

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

So the hot tub continues to heat, but only sometimes. I've noticed that if I turn the breaker off for a few minutes (in order to get a water sample), and then turn it back on again, the hot tub will heat. I just received a replacement pressure switch. Should I just switch out the pressure...

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

The original problem was hot tub not heating. I had been switching breaker on and off numerous times over the past week in trying to figure that problem out, which is what led me to turning off the breaker yesterday. When I came out a couple of hour later to turn the breaker on, it didn't have...

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

another update: I turned the jets to high, and then back down to low circulate, and then the heat indicator light came on again. Does this lean to the idea that the pressure switch is faulty?>

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

Right. OK, so I got the non GFCI breaker in. The wire I was talking about was the ground wire from the hot tub. I attached that to the ground bus bar, and now hot tub turns on and circulates. No one will be going in the hot tub. I had the assistance of my hot tub repairman giving me...

OK, I tried this.... but what about the ground wire? What do I do with that?

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

So I should have tried disconnecting wires before messing with the GFCI? Great, I SCREWED myself! So what is my best course here. The new GFCI won't be here until tomorrow, and probably late in the day. Until then, it's going to be freezing cold. If I drain my hot tub this morning, will...

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

I should add, I've already taken the GFCI out and ordered it's replacement. The old one cannot be put back in, as I damaged it when getting it out.

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

This is my hot tub, a 500 gallon, 2002 Cal Spas 2100. Not sure when it was installed, I believe 2006. Came with the house we bought in 2012. So the breaker is most likely 12 years old, and had been working fine earlier in the day and the day before, as I had been switching it on and off...

Am I screwed? Hot tub breaker shot, freezing weather for days.

Murphy's Law in effect. Outside GFCI breaker for hot tub is shot. ( CH250GF ) Earliest I can get it delivered is Sunday. Water in tub itself was 99 degrees when last the water circulated, around 1 PM. Current temperature is 27, feels like 22, with snow on the way. Temps won't be above...

Pool company closing...used to clean filter, now doesn't?!

Moved into house in 2012 and used pool service previous owners used. Last year the guy comes to close the pool, and then after he left, I noticed that he didn't clean the filter as he had done the previous four closings. He said he forgot, then came back and did it. $325 is the price we'd...

Should I switch from liquid Chlorine to Tablets...Seems more economical

use the pool calculator: http://www.troublefreepool.com/calc.html One 8oz trichlor tablet raises FC 2.6 in a 21000 gallon pool. 128 oz (1 gallon) of 10% bleach adds 4.8 FC. Average FC loss per day ideally is 1 - 2. With a CYA of 70, you want to always maintain at least FC of 5 PPM...

Had the pool guy open my pool--did I get good value or was I taken for a ride?

I used to pay $325 to have the pool opened, which included him throwing in some dichlor shock to start things off. Now I open it myself and save $325. I still have the pool company do the closing though, for $325.

50 Amp breaker tripping as of yesterday...won't stay on.

Looks like the problem is actually the auxillary pump. I'd be fine without it, but I'll bet my wife won't go for the idea of having a hot tub without jets.

50 Amp breaker tripping as of yesterday...won't stay on.

So, the heater worked for the last week, then last night I noticed the hot tub was off again. I tried the breaker, and it immediately tripped. So, I just disconnected the heater again, and tried the breaker, and now even with the heater disconnected, it's still tripping the breaker...

50 Amp breaker tripping as of yesterday...won't stay on.

On the suggestion of the spa repairman, I reconnected the heater to confirm that this was the issue. Strangely, the breaker is now remaining on...the hot tub is heating fine. Guess we'll see. Is it possible that a loose connection on one of those two heater wires could have caused the problem?

50 Amp breaker tripping as of yesterday...won't stay on.

Having a spa company help me by phone... I disconnected the heater element, and now it stays on... So, waiting to hear back on next step....whether the whole heating element needs to be replaced, or perhaps just the thermostat? I assume this is original to the hot tub, so it's 15 years old.

50 Amp breaker tripping as of yesterday...won't stay on.

I called an electrician, and he said it's 99% likely a problem with something with the hot tub, not the breaker. Hot tub is a 2002 cal spa. Just replaced one of the motors about a year ago. Is this even worth fixing?

50 Amp breaker tripping as of yesterday...won't stay on.

UGH! Noticed the hot tub was off yesterday, turned on the breaker, and it worked fine. Today, it was off again, turned it on, and it started the 2 hour filter cycle. Completed the cycle, and now it is off again, and every time I turn it on, it automatically trips. I believe the hot tub was...

How much is too much CC? Clorox question?

YES to this, as I just discovered. I had done the ahh-some treatment once before, and I must have immediately wiped off the ring of filfth it produced. This time around, I didn't immediately wipe off the filfth, and then I had to scrub off that stuff. ARGH!

    Friend's pool...does this look like 35,000 gallons?

I told her I'd assume it was 30,000 gallons, and use that for calculating intitally with the pool calculator. That being said, I tested her water, and he CH was 110. This is a gunite pool, so based on recommended levels, she'd want to get that up to 250, right?..roughly 42 pounds of this...
