New to TFP but not new to pools - numbers are off

I'm unclear why your goal is to add liquid chlorine 1/week? I thought common practice using TFP methods was regular liquid chlorine addition. It's a pretty simple task...

New to TFP but not new to pools - numbers are off

something someone told me a little while ago is that the rate of FC loss depends on the FC level, so if your FC is at 16, maybe it'll drop more like 2ppm/day, but if it's at 7 maybe it's more like 1ppm/day. So FC loss rate is a % of FC, not a static number. Anyways, the way I interpret that is...

    What’s the TA?

Using 25 ml test, here’s some pictures. I think when I started testing I’d document 80, but now I’d document 90.

    Any advice welcome

I think you’re right. Like bbq.. only change 1 thing at a time :) I’ll give it a month after my TA levels are at ideal range then re-evaluate.

Ok I’ll find the strong stuff. Yes I know MA doesn’t impact FC. Was citing this: “Muriatic acid is hydrochloric acid, or HCl. It is a strong mineral acid because it provides hydrogen atoms when dissolved in water. However, the counter ion is chloride (Cl-). And chloride is....well....salt.”...

@Rancho Cost-a-Lotta @mknauss thanks for the replies. Both lead me to believe adding MA is just something I'll be doing on a regular basis. Any pro/con to type of MA? I've been using the 14.5% KEMTEK, works well. I could hunt for some of the stronger stuff, but the KEMTEK stuff at Lowes is a...

    Any advice welcome

Hi folks, I think I'm getting ready to live that TFP life, but wanted to post here just in case anyone had a good tip before I add boric acid. As background: first time pool owner this summer in Las Vegas, 16k gal plaster, with a hot tub that spills 2' into pool. When we inherited it...

    Vacation plan

Update: Gone for 15 days. Loaded up before I left with 2 gallons of 12.5% chlorine, and put four 8oz trichlor tablets in the floaters. Friend came by halfway through, put an additional 4 trichlor tablets in the floaters. I instructed him to "put the gallon of pool shock in the pool", I guess...

Ahhh interesting! Make sense it's a % of total FC dissipating, not just a static number. Very helpful!!

Thanks for the reply. Still learning about the TFP school of thought... I get that SLAM raises FC, and you monitor the reduction in FC to see if organics are being gobbled up by the FC. But what's the downside of raising FC amounts above the SLAM level? I'm sure there's reasons a person...

    Vacation plan

Here's what I'm thinking: We'll be out of town for 14 days. I just emptied and re-filled my 16k gallon plaster pool (new pool owner). CYA currently just below 30, I'd guess 28 (using the Taylor K-2006C). Other measurements are: Ph: 7.8; Alk: 150; Calc: 320. I'm in the southwest, plenty of...
