    onBalance and NPC Plaster Guidelines

I've not seen the NPC manual but most instruction articles I've read all say "immediately", which I think just gets repeated over and over. OTOH, I've read articles that say you're not supposed to wait DAYS to fill the pool because that would damage the plaster. So I think it boils down to the...

New Fill Water Very Green - What To Do?

Fill completed last night about 1am. That was fun. Filter on. Water a little less green. Chem test this morning produced this result... TA = 430 CH = 70 pH = 7.9, lowering to 7.6 Have started adding calcium chloride but don't have near enough for target range so on the way to store, also...

New Fill Water Very Green - What To Do?

After checking with him I did put in the sequestrant. Thanks for the advice. He also said the green water is because the water isn't circulating and it should clear after the filter system is on for a couple of hours and the chemistry gets balanced.

New Fill Water Very Green - What To Do?

The pool needs two more feet of water. Use it now or wait until full? The filter system will not come on until pool is full.

New Fill Water Very Green - What To Do?

So after replastering the fill is about 80-90% done and rather than light blue the water is VERY green. I've been balancing the pH and it's 7.6 Doing the bicarb fill and those instructions say to balance the rest of the chems after the pool is full so I haven't measured anything else, let...

    Plaster Finally

Took about 3.5 hours to plaster. Crew agreed not to acid wash but did do a water wash on the micro pebble finish. Been filling now about 45 minutes. Expect to take about 30 hrs.

    Plaster Finally

So our replastering project started two weeks ago. First the tile guy laid the WL tile wrong because he didn't recognize the pattern, then the store ran out of it, when it came in 5 days later we had three days of rain, then the plaster guys showed on Saturday with the wrong plaster. The PB...

How To Hide Dead Pool Light

I wish it was that simple. Problem is the light is at the far end of the pool 50-60 ft from power, the light cord is stuck solid and they would have to dig through the concrete deck to get to the conduit to replace it. The PB offered the option of installing a junction box immediately behind...

How To Hide Dead Pool Light

Thanks. There are no specs on that part so don't know if it will fit. Can call tomorrow.

How To Hide Dead Pool Light

PB suggested better leave it so it could be repaired in the future should somebody want to. So just trying to cover it for now.

How To Hide Dead Pool Light

Our replaster prep starts tomorrow. The pool light is very old, dead, ugly, not repairable, and replacing is costs way too much to be feasible. So we're trying to figure out if there's any way to cover it up or camoflage it. Our PB is trying to locate a better looking dead one from other...

    Bicarb Startup Question

Thanks. Finer measurements with pool empty yielded 3168 cubic feet, or 23700 gallons. Was pretty close. When filled I'll measure at the meter. Bad news is the tile was laid wrong, resulting in having to replace about half of it and the local store has no more. Warehouse deliver will take...

    Bicarb Startup Question

He is planning to trowel the cream off and not do acid rinse. WE did not discuss rinsing it with water. I'm filling so will wait 4 hours after plasterers finish. Should I get them to rinse with water?

    Bicarb Startup Question

I will double check the estimated volume using the usual dimensional formula. With pool empty I did discover it's 8 ft deep instead of 9 that I was told by previous owner.

    Bicarb Startup Question

TA is 70 but CH is 60. The dosage equations yield values ranging from 90-124 pounds of sodium bicarb, depending on whether you use the 400 or 500 target. So I got two 50 lb bags to use. Just didn't know if I should put it all the barrel at once. Thanks.

    Bicarb Startup Question

We're getting new plaster tomorrow, Stonescapes Micro, and will do the bicarb startup. Fill water calcium is very low, CH=60, and I'll be adding 100lbs of sodium bicarb into the fill barrel. How much should I put in the barrel at one time? There will be 1-2 other hoses filling the pool so...

    onBalance and NPC Plaster Guidelines

I hope he joins in. I'm really just trying to find out if his plastering recommendations differ from NPC's and how. Maybe they're the same. I just don't know. I did find this statement in NPC's Technical Bulletin #5 about white cement...."Using CaCl2 as a set accelerator in amounts not...

    onBalance and NPC Plaster Guidelines

I've been talking to PBs about doing our replaster (probably quartz) using the guidelines published by onBalance for the plaster mix and 4-6 hour delay for the fill, and getting pushback about the mix and the delay, and being told they follow NPC guidelines. I visited the NPC website this...

    Replastering - FIll Water Chemistry

I decided to test the water coming from the softening system and got these results... pH - 7.2 TA - 150 CH - 0 (adding 11L at step 3 turned the water blue, not red) So the results reported above must be accurate from the softener bypass.

    BiCarb Startup and Warranty Issues

The same PB said they use Startup Tech. This product appears to have the same goals as the bicarb startup. The PB said they see almost no plaster dust. Maybe this would be a good alternative.

    Replastering - FIll Water Chemistry

WE do have a whole house water softener but I turned that off, as I do when I add water to the pool. Just to be sure I retested from a faucet that bypasses the softener and got the same numbers. I was surprised too when I first tested the water a few months ago. A couple years ago we moved...

    Replastering - FIll Water Chemistry

I've gotten several estimates and talked to one PB about modifying the plaster according to Onbalance recommendations and they refused. The plasterer said they'd been trained by Quartzscape and he would not deviate from that. Will have same talk with others but may be stuck with standard...

    BiCarb Startup and Warranty Issues

I had another PB over today to discuss replastering our pool (Quartzscape) and described the altered plaster application procedures and bicarb startup outlined by OnBalance. Right away he said the biggest problem would be that doing anything other than following Quartzscape's instructions would...
