Refurbishing my vinyl in-ground pool and equipment. Advice please :-)

super, thanks! I'll look into Circu Thanks for the advice! I'll check out that Hayward. I was told my heater was not salt water compatible plus it's pretty old so I'll upgrade to a mid efficient heater.

Refurbishing my vinyl in-ground pool and equipment. Advice please :-)

I'm replacing the liner, skimmer, pump, heater, chlorinator and probably some other stuff too! There's a lot to unpack here so feel free to just pick and choose any or all... 1) It's a 14 x 28' vinyl pool 8' deep with a small shallow end. Estimate 55,000 Litres. We are removing the entire...

PSA: Toddler twins drown in family pool as mom says she was home-schooling older child

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of this tragic incident.:cry: A reminder that drowning is often silent. Those supervising must stay vigilant.

Thinking about changing over to SWCG!

Hey Lucas I was waiting for my Taylor 2006 FAS-DPD test kit to arrive. I sat down and read through the whole book. Super informative!! So I did the CYA test (diluted because it's so high) and I came up with ~100 so that agrees with the pool store. My chlorine came out at 3.5 with a combined of...

Thinking about changing over to SWCG!

Thanks for the resource. This site is awesome!! I actually completed the drain this past weekend. I took it down to about 2" high in the shallow end. The liner was just starting to ripple in places at that point so did not go further. I figured I got about 50% of the water replaced, took a...

Thinking about changing over to SWCG!

Thanks Maddie, I have a solar blanket which collects the Crud which then falls into the pool while I wind it up to remove it from the water. I think an automatic cover that I could sweep off before I wind it off would be a great idea and when it comes time to renovate the pool I will check that...

Thinking about changing over to SWCG!

Unfortunately you can't backwash these. You have to drain the bell (release the pressure), unscrew all the clamps, lift off the heavy 'lid' and pull out the wet cartridges. I then spend about an hour hosing off each and every pleat in the filter.

Thinking about changing over to SWCG!

WOW! I did not know there was such a thing as a skimmer bot. I will definitely be checking that out and a pool robot as well. I have my pump running 24/7 as well. I need to research salt water systems because I don't really know what my options are at this moment. Thanks for taking the time...

Thinking about changing over to SWCG!

I've had a few different pool companies over the 25 years here in Edmonton. There are not many companies as we don't have many outdoor pools because of the weather. This past weekend I took a water sample in to a longstanding company (they now use some kind of computer scanner to evaluate the...

Thinking about changing over to SWCG!

You are correct ND, it's got a cartridge that sleeves inside a larger cartridge and yup it's about 15K gallons. Based upon my convo with Jim it seems that my FC is held in check by my huge CYA level. I think my first order of business will be to drain a bunch of water... Hope that helps...🤞 I'm...

Thinking about changing over to SWCG!

Thanks sooo much Jim! I think I'll drain a bunch of water to see if I can bring the CYA down. Also thanks for the very valuable tip on cell size. I really appreciate your help! Karen

Thinking about changing over to SWCG!

Hi Jim, Keeping junk out of my filter isn't an issue as it's a given and I just deal with it but I'm just not sure a SWCG system can generate enough chlorine when I have a very organic laden pool..? Are there any circumstances where the FC can't be maintained at the usual levels (1.5 - 3...

Thinking about changing over to SWCG!

Hello everyone! I have been running a smallish (14' x 28' x 8' deep) vinyl pool for 25 years and am looking for a more hands-off approach. I would purchase an entire SWCG system including any automation that would read the current chlorine and adjust on the fly if that even exists? Here's my...
