KreepyKrauly spends most of its time in the deep end

I have a Pentair KreepyKrauly Platinum cleaner. It spends most of its time in the deep end. Is there an adjustment I can make so it covers the floor uniformly?

    pH 8.1 - OK?

My pool has always wanted to be above pH 7.8 and after having the pool for two years I found this article: http://www.poolsolutions.com/gd/hiphpool.html which says that might be OK. Is it? I haven't added MA for a couple months now and it's staying at 8.1. What problems should I be on the...

Toledo - microcystin toxin - phosphorus - pools for emergency water

My pool water is part of my plan for emergency water. Due to the Microcystin toxin situation in Toledo I have a question about phosphorus. I have been told to not worry about phosphorus in my pool because if I keep my FC level properly maintained there won't be any algae to feed on the...

Switch from MA to dry acid

I'd like to switch from Muriatic Acid to a dry acid so my wife will be able to manage the pool if for some reason I am not able to. Are there any downsides? Is sodium bisulfate the only form of dry acid? In the event of an extended water outage would the sulfates affect the potability of the...

How to deal with an extended power outage?

I'd like to understand what I would need to do to maintain my pool in the event of a prolonged power outage. I chlorinate with bleach and a 15 gal peristaltic pump. I should have enough bleach on hand to manually dose the pool for an extended period. I usually have 3 bottles on hand but I...

White powder on Luedersstone around fire pit

About a year into having our pool installed I am seeing a white powder buildup on the top of the ring of Luedersstone coping around our fire pit. It's on the inner half of that circle, above the fire bricks. I'm guessing that salts are migrating up from the bricks through the Luederstone and...

    Pumping Muriatic Acid

Hi, I am currently pumping bleach with a Stenner 45M fixed 10 GPD pump with 15 gallon tank. I'd like to add another one to pump MA. Is there anything I need to consider changing in the specs of the pump for MA? The bleach pump is controlled via my Pentair control panel but I'm out of...

pH Rise - Borates didn't help

I was hoping adding 50 ppm borates would help with my pH rise but I didn't see any difference. If it matters, my plaster is 11 months old. Here is the rise I saw over the last two weeks: 8/30: FC 5, pH 7.9 // added 1 gal MA 8/31: FC 6, pH 7.1, TA 60, CH 310, CYA 38, NaCl 1200 9/1: FC 6, pH...

    The process of lowering TA

I hope this hasn't been answered before - didn't have time to look through everything... I use bleach. My TA is 110, CYA 45, measured by my TF100 kit. I need to lower my TA to 80, but is that 80 as read via my kit or do I need to subtract the 30% TA due to my CYA from either the 80 and/or 110...

Heating your pool with AC heat

Why isn't my pH coming down?

I've been trying to get my pH down from 7.7 to 7.5. The calculator says for a 15K pool 10 oz of 31.45 percent Muriatic Acid should accomplish that. Over the last 5 days I've added 35 oz but it's only down to 7.6. Any ideas on what is happening?

BBB pools and sanitary conditions - CDC comment

From http://www.foxnews.com/health/2013/05/1 ... -cdc-says/ "Chlorine and other disinfectants don't kill germs instantly," said Michele Hlavsa, chief of CDCs Healthy Swimming Program. What are the concerns with BBB pools?

    Where to buy Stenner pump/tank?

I'd like to buy this model: S1G45MFL2A2S: model 45 motor, 25 psi, 10 GPD, 1/4" tubing, 15 gal tank. Googling wasn't much help. What are some online outlets to try?

    shutoff valves around injection point?

I'm going to install a Stenner pump for chlorine dosing. The manual suggests a shutoff valve on each side of the injection point for when the injector needs to be cleaned. Is that necessary? If so, are there alternatives?

    Having trouble getting CH up

Hi, I need to raise my CH and it seems it's not going up as much as calculated. Is that to be expected? Below is the history. 4/10: CH 180 at Leslie's 4/20: CH 170 using TF100 kit 4/27: added 64 oz weight HTH Calcium Plus (CaCl), should add 29 CH 4/29: added another 64 oz, should add another...

Deck-O-Shield, StoneTech Professional Salt Water Resistant

I want to convert to SWCG but first need to consider my coping. It's Lueders Stone a hard/dense limestone from the Lueders Basin west of DFW. Does anyone know if it's hard enough to resist spalling from salt water splashout? If not I've been looking at sealers and have it narrowed down to...

CH low - benefit for exposing pebble aggregate?

My CH is 170. Before I bump it up to 250 I have a question. I'm not entirely happy with my StoneScapes pebble finish. I think it could have been worked longer to expose more aggregate leaving less plaster exposed. Would leaving the CH at 170 for a while allow for the plaster to wear away a...

    BBB and vacation

At this point my FC is dropping about 1 ppm per day. When the FC drops to 4 (or below) I bump it back up to 6. I see for my CYA level of 50 my shock level is 20. Can I bump it up to 20 and then ignore the pool for 20-6 = 14 days? Does the higher level of FC get consumed at the same rate?

Salt buildup over time with chlorine

My 15KGal pool is about 6 months old. I stopped using pucks when the CYA got up to 50 and now pour chlorine in about every two days. At some point I will likely have to leave town for one or two weeks so I need to automate. I have some Luederstone coping in an area where there would be...
