Chasing down water drop in spillover spa.

Quick update.. with spa drains plugged (best I could), still saw 1.5" of drain down in 24 hrs. So now I've plugged all returns into the spa with 1.5" pvc plugs and will see if I'm losing water through them. 8/27 Edit - still lost 1.5. Snugged up plugs a bit and will retest one more time...

Is this how dual spa drains are supposed to be installed?

It's frustrating. I spent $35k+ for crack repair, pebble, coping, tile, etc. to this particular contractor. Don't understand why they cheap out on this part. Seems they'd rather be building $100k+ new pools. Regardless.. depending on what I find with my leak test we'll see where we go from...

Is this how dual spa drains are supposed to be installed?

It was a renovation. I had them convert my single drain to dual for safety. All I could find was these pictures after the gunnite/shotcrete truck came in; they did the bottom of the spa and the giant plaster crack I inherited. This particular pool was very neglected before we bought in 2022.

Is this how dual spa drains are supposed to be installed?

All I have is plastic covers screwed onto a plastic ring embedded in plaster? Always thought there was supposed to be a plastic drain "bucket" underneath these. Here's the part # I found on the cover: 640-231xv

Chasing down water drop in spillover spa.

Was thinking about plugging my drains when I saw these covers appear to be screwed directly into the plaster? Can these be removed? Edit - better pic -

Chasing down water drop in spillover spa.

Sounds good. I'm going to continue this this test as long as I can, until my water drops below the tile. After ~25hrs: Spa level has dropped 1.5". Bucket level is 1.375" higher than spa, meaning it has lost about 1/8" to evaporation as they started out even. Tomorrow, I should see Overall...

Chasing down water drop in spillover spa.

Sure. You can see where I've isolated the spa water with the red lines for this test (combination of check valve and 3 way). I should add.. I've lost 50ppm CH in a month. :(

Chasing down water drop in spillover spa.

My spillover spa still leaks down fairly quickly even after replacing my check valve with a proper Jandy one. Overnight, it's dropping ~1.5". Confirmed w/ bucket test. I don't yet know at what point it will stop because I don't want to leave my Pebble exposed in this heat for days. So I could...

Best PVC glue? And how to ensure good bond when you can't twist?

I knocked this project out over the last weekend. All of my pool return lines at the pad were replaced, and I have a proper check valve preventing the spa from draining back into the pool. There's still a slow drain down, but that will take some more investigating. I recommend buying a PVC...

Calimar 3hp VS Pump Installed - let's see how long it lives.

~15 months later - not a single issue with the pump and it runs 24/7 most of the time. I've made it through the manufacturers warranty and am on the 3rd party one. Hopefully 3 more years with no issues. :)

Best PVC glue? And how to ensure good bond when you can't twist?

I'm getting ready to replace an old check valve and 3-way Jandy with new ones, and since most of the pipes in the system are fixed to other parts/lines, at some point, I'm only going to be able to coat the pipe with primer/glue and push together without with any twisting to ensure good coverage...

I'm in no way affiliated with the brand, just wanted to share my experience. I just got my dolphin E30 back from warranty service. They fixed the issue, replaced the power cord, gave me new rollers, and filter screens. This cleaner has been in my pool and run almost everyday for 2 years. I...
