    Shocking Pool, FILTER ISSUE! *pictures!*

Re: Shocking Pool, Need Reassurance! *pictures!* OK - Husband jumped in the pool this morning to vacuum it more thoroughly. He didnt feel a lot of debri (a few leaves he says). When he was vacuuming I put a sock over the return and got all kinds of particles, including yucky tiny slimy...

    Shocking Pool, FILTER ISSUE! *pictures!*

Re: Shocking Pool, Need Reassurance! *pictures!* If it is bypassing the filter, do you think it would simply indicate that the filter cartridge is shot and needs to be replaced or would there be a bigger issue? I will do the sock test. It does look like it's coming straight out and not...

    Shocking Pool, FILTER ISSUE! *pictures!*

Re: Shocking Pool, Need Reassurance! *pictures!* Been vacuuming the pool and stirring up the debri. It's got more in it than I thought. I also skimmed with a leaf net on the bottom for a solid 10 minutes after vacuuming and got out a few handfuls of leaves as well. We have to stop vacuuming...

    CYA level at Zero?

I just went through this last week :) I cleaned the pool out the best I could and added dichlor. There is a calculator for the amount you need at the bottom of the pool calculator. I did one bag at a time, maybe 2 a day tops. It takes a while to register. I also read there could be an ammonia...

    Shocking Pool, FILTER ISSUE! *pictures!*

Re: Shocking Pool, Need Reassurance! *pictures!* OOh! Good tip mrcarcrazy! Richard320 - yes, it connects to the skimmer and the other end connects to a triangular vacuum head I got at lowes for about $30 :)

    Shocking Pool, FILTER ISSUE! *pictures!*

Re: Shocking Pool, Need Reassurance! Thanks for the reply Richard320. I added more pictures, thanks for the tutorial! My husband did say that there was still stuff in the bottom, not a lot but still some. We have not vacuumed. Any tips on getting the vacuum going with one person outside the...

    Shocking Pool, FILTER ISSUE! *pictures!*

Hi all, I have an above ground 7600 gallon pool. I pulled the cover off after sitting stagnant for 1.5 years. It stared very very dark green. I spent a week adjusting CYA, Ph etc. The original CYA was 0, TA was 30 and ph was 6. I added several bags of dichlor to get the CYA up to 50...

Salvage Cartridge Filter from Last Season?

Hi All, When we put the cartridge/filter system up last season we could not get the top ring off to get it out and clean it. My husband just sat it in the shed all winter. Most of the water was drained out of it (except a few inches in the bottom). I believe the pool was already green when...

New! Just tested water! Now what?

Yeah, I'd say it hadn't started sparkling yet, then. I thought it was sparkling, but it didn't exactly look like there wasn't anything in the pool. I think I want to shock one more day at least, just to be sure!

New! Just tested water! Now what?

We swam in the pool for the first time! The water was a little cloudy while we were in it, as in I could still see my feet, but it seemed a little murky, (just a tad). Should I continue to shock another day?

New! Just tested water! Now what?

So as long as it is below 12ppm it is safe to swim? When should I test/adjust my pH, CYA and TA levels?

New! Just tested water! Now what?

Okay! The pool is clear. I've still been shocking. CC is at 0. FC is now at 12. It lost less than 1 FC overnight. So I'm assuming I'm done with the shocking process. I am going to go out there and put enough CL in to shock one last time. What are the next steps?? Do I wait until the CL drops...

Oh okay. I understand! I guess I like to be precise and I thought it really mattered exactly what I was putting in. Thank you for the clarification!

New! Just tested water! Now what?

I'm sorry, the 7.5CC was supposed to say 7.5 FC. The CC has been at 0.5ppm for 2 days. I'm positive the bleach is 6%, it may be fresh. I'll go remeasure the depth and try to recalculate the gallons. It matters to me, because If I'm going to be using this to calculate how much bleach to use...

New! Just tested water! Now what?

Ok - I'm still confused. My CC was at 7.5, so to get it to 15ppm the calculator told me to add 3 quarts 3 cups - which I did. I'm measuring in a pyrex big glass measuring cup. I have the pool calculated at 7600 gallons (it is 18 feet in diameter). I'm doing something wrong, because I tested 2...

New! Just tested water! Now what?

Thank you techguy for the pictures! Very exciting. I tested the pool for the first time today (12:30pm est) and got a chlorine level of 7.5, so I put 3 quarts and 3 cups of bleach in. We are all sick over here, so I'm trying to stay on top of it. How often should I be measuring the levels and...

New! Just tested water! Now what?

Brushed the pool and skimmed it several times. Filter is good. It's 1:50pm. FC is 12.5ppm. Going to add 1 quart 7oz of bleach to get back up to 15ppm. The pool water is still milky and light green. Is this normal? Should it be clearing up at this point? I feel like I am doing something wrong. I...

New! Just tested water! Now what?

I tested today at 11:30 am and the chlorine is still at 15ppm. I added chlorine at 9:30pm yesterday. Shouldn't it be coming down at this point?? Also, the CC is 0.5.

New! Just tested water! Now what?

We just got the head of the cord replaced and bought a new extension cord. I talked to my father, who is an electrician, he said we had too high of a gauge of wire (extension cord) and the electrical current running through the wire was too high of a pull... so we replaced it with a lower gauge...

New! Just tested water! Now what?

Just wanted to update! I was doing good with keeping the pool shocked but now the cord to pump caught fire while being plugged in. We are going to have to get it repaired, so pretty much everything I've done thus far was in vain. :( I will start again when we get it replaced. This whole...

New! Just tested water! Now what?

I will go clean the filter now, thank you for reminding me. I'm not sure if the gauge is working because I think it was around the same number before, but I cannot remember. I'm going to clean it anyways, it cannot hurt! Also, if the FC falls below 15ppm (my target), is it going to do harm? I'm...

New! Just tested water! Now what?

Okay, I just tested again at 3:50 est (just got home) and the FC is at 18.5ppm. So it's coming down. The pool is not green anymore, it's more of murky, milky white color with a tiny hint of green. It's hard to describe. I'll check on the FC in another hour or two. Also I'm a night owl, so I am...
