    Ceramic tiles

The pool is completly ringed at the water line with 6''X6'' cerramic tiles. Many have seen better days and I would like to replace the worst of them. Does anyone know where I can get them? I'd like to match the color (aqua blue). Regular tile stores don't carry them. As usual any help would be...

    Filter pressure readings.

Now almost 24 hours after I put in the chlorine, water not clear but better. Has a green cloudy hue. Chlorine still high and the rest good. Pressure climbing in the twenties. I expect to backwash soon. I'll order the test kit.

    Filter pressure readings.

Thanks again for the insight. I throughly backwashed the filter again. I added 9 pounds of DE. I weighed it exactly on a digital scale. I added 5 gallons of liquid clorine (12 1/2 %). Pool pressure on starting was about 15lbs, then creeped up t0 17. Readings now are: FC way over 5 (thats as high...

    Filter pressure readings.

The filter is a Hayward (large 72sq ft). The pump is a horse and a half; pumps very well. As I mentioned I started off with a cleaned filter (done by a pool place). Maybe an algacide as well as strong shock is called for. Can they be done at the same time?

    Filter pressure readings.

OK will test again today, thanks. Still don't understand why it powers up with good readings?

    Filter pressure readings.

Odd things seem to be happening. Start the pump (9:30am)and pressure goes to 14/15lbs and stays there. After awhile (12pm), now reads 25lbs; later (3pm) now 33lbs). I started with a clean filter (see my post"new products"). When I start the pump again; back to normal 15/14 and the cycle repeats...

    Leslies DE scoop weight

If one scoop per 5sq ft of filter is correct, then my 72 sq ft filter requires 14.4 scoops, not the 9full scoops stated by the mfg. Confusing!

    new products?

Now a sequal to my inquiry. Green to clean did no such thing! Was promised a sparkling pool in 48 hours. Still somewhat green water. Also used the new filter material; a disaster! Started with a chemically cleaned filter. Could not get a good backwash, pressure would not reduce enough. Starting...

    new products?

Has anyone used a product called "Green to Clean" which is supposed to accelerate the cleansing effects of chlorine. Also a powdery substance that can be used as a filtering agent instead of DE; but not mixed. I'm told it's more effective, lighter and bio-degradable.? I'm sorry I don't have the...

    Leftover chemicals

It's been an uneventful summer and I am thankful! I have a few gallons of leftover liquid chlorine which I store in an unheated location. Will it freeze?

    cloudy water suddenly

I do not have a CYA level. The water was more white cloudy than gray. It has cleared significantly, not back to its original clarity yet. Clorine level has remained high, but decreasing slowly. I may be out of the woods, I hope.

    cloudy water suddenly

The pool has been crystal clear up until yesterday when I saw the very start of algae growth. We have had very hot and sunny weather, no rain for days. Ibackwashed the DE filter, added new DE, pressure good. during the day I added 5lbs of PH up, 5lbs of Alk up and lastly in the evening shocked...

    chicken or egg

It's green (dark) every year. In fall we lower the water and cover it with a huge tarp, which keeps the leaves off but its green anyway. I do shock it before covering. I would like to add to dmans response the PH reading is off the charts its so red it glows. Thanks to you all.

    chicken or egg

Initially the water was tested at Leslie's and they said CYA was zero. Since then I have added 4 gallons of 12% liquid clorine and 2 pounds of chlorine powder. Just starting to see a hint of bottom.

    chicken or egg

Every year I wonder the same thing as I open the green monster. This site does a wonderful job of explaining how to adjust each of the individual critical measures. But I wonder is there a proper step by step procedure showing what chemical measures to adjust first, second etc. Before turning...

Overnight jump in PH and TA

After a calm pool season we now have a new problem. I test every day and results have been good. Today all of a sudden The PH is off the charts and the Ta regesters about 130. No chems have been added in the last two days other than the 3 inch pucks in two skimmers. I regularly add 10 minutes of...

Skimmers each have two holes, one plugged

My inground pool has to skimmers each with two holes. one hole is always plugged and the other sends water to the filter. What are the plugged holes for? Also they are looking old and rotten, should I try and get them out and replce them? Also one skimmer seems to be dominate (pulls water alot...

    green pool at start-up

I now have a clear clean pool!!! After starting with a chemically clean filter; backwashing it 4 times I took the filter apart; it was filled with green slime. I read the pool school method of cleaning and followed it with good results. Since my filter is big I could not fully submerge it in a...

    green pool at start-up

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. You asked for the CYA it's 50. Two more questions if you would bear with me. You said the CYA would tell you how much schock to use? How so? Also my DE filter calls for 9 pounds of DE after a backwash. I know there is a lot of DE still left once the...

    green pool at start-up

I am back with the green monster! I have made all the right moves and tests and the water stays cloudy green. I have gone through my inheritence in the form of chemicals. The pool does not maintain chlorine over night. What am I missing? The pool is located in Connecticut, 50,000 gallons, yes...
