Build up on spillover wall tile.

I have some build up in only two spots on my spill over wall. Any ideas what this is? Also, I’m curious as to why it’s only in these 2 spots.

Houston, TX No-Shade Pool Owners, how much FC loss

Mason and Highland Knolls checking in, losing 5ppm a day. CYA currently at 60. Switched to using chlorine tabs to up my CYA. Also added a 20x16 sail shade to cover half the pool.

Houston, TX No-Shade Pool Owners, how much FC loss

@Katygreys Interesting that we are both using Suncoast Chlorine from Pinch-A-Penny... I'm not one for coincidences. Also, I store my chlorine outside under the shade of a tree. Yours is more protected from the elements than mine. Another thing to note. I use 8.5% Bleach in my Pool Match...

Houston, TX No-Shade Pool Owners, how much FC loss

This is what I don't get! Is the nature of the CYA test that different between the people doing the test? Maybe mine is much lower than the reading I'm getting. I have read over and over again on how to do the test "correctly" too. This is eye opening enough for my to increase my CYA by 10 and...

Houston, TX No-Shade Pool Owners, how much FC loss

Happy to see this thread, as I was curious of the same thing. Katy, TX - Full sun from 9-5. CYA of 60 and ~5ppm per day lose. Seems pretty crazy to me... Also, before anyone says it. Did a SLAM 4 weeks ago to kill my algae and have OCLT of .5ppm.

Why am I getting differences in Chlorine levels with 3 different samples taken at the same time.

I guess I never thought of it this way. My assumption was that high chlorine levels could cause problems with equipment and the pool and based on you CYA, X was the amount you should keep it around. I was always trying to keep it at X and not go above that level.

Why am I getting differences in Chlorine levels with 3 different samples taken at the same time.

I actually posted a video in another thread of my algae problem, to make sure it was actually algae. Also, I'm only getting it on walls that get the most shade (none on the floor).

How to clean algae out of Multi Cyclone 50

In my case the multicyclone is on my in-floor cleaner system, so its the perfect application in my opinion. In pump basket catches the big stuff; multicyclone catches all the smaller stuff so it doesn't get into the filter. Basically exactly what you said @bertschb, I have a "hair net" on my...

Why am I getting differences in Chlorine levels with 3 different samples taken at the same time.

🤣 I do blame lack of coffee for a lot of things. I started my SLAM last Thursday night already having "stupid clear water". I have algae that only reappears every 7-10 days. My only sign will be the OCLT. That is the problem... I increased my FC to 35 this morning before I left for work to...

Why am I getting differences in Chlorine levels with 3 different samples taken at the same time.

Out of all those I would say this is highest possibility. I am going faster than normal as I'm dropping ~50 drops, but I'm doing that on all the samples. It's quite annoying that there is so much deviation in my results (especially during a SLAM). I ended up taking the average of all 3 numbers...

Why am I getting differences in Chlorine levels with 3 different samples taken at the same time.

Good morning. I'm currently SLAMing my pool and this morning I was testing for OCLT and I got 3 different results. Notes on samples: Filter pump and cleaner pump had been running all night and were still running. All samples were pulled with in 10 min of each other. All samples were pulled at...

How to clean algae out of Multi Cyclone 50

Yes, it was. I couldn’t get the big ring undone by hand. Had to tap it with a dead blow hammer. There are two o-rings. The larger one was already stretched a bit and the thing has never been apart (not sure how that happened. Greased it up good and it stayed in place. Will have to get a new one...

How to clean algae out of Multi Cyclone 50

Got it all apart and I’m so glad I did. I couldn’t see how bad it was. Dirt was covering the algae so I could see if from the top. Would have completely ruined my SLAM.

How to clean algae out of Multi Cyclone 50

Yeah, the normal flushing wasn’t cutting it. Guess I’ll try to take it apart and clean it. Thanks for the help.

Started my SLAM last night. Have a few questions...

Thanks for the responses. I just thought of some thing else. I went ahead and started my SLAM with a CYA of 60. I do plan on doing a 24 hr Mustard algae kill off. Based on the chart it says I need a FC level of 35ppm for the mustard algae. Will chlorine at this level be damaging to my pool...

How to clean algae out of Multi Cyclone 50

I have grime and algae build up in the bottom of my Multi Cyclone 50. I have purged it and that processes cleaned about half of the gunk out, but the other stuff seems to be stuck to the bottom along with the algae. Does anyone know how to clean these?

Started my SLAM last night. Have a few questions...

I started my SLAM last night and have a few questions. 1) I read I should brush down all pool toys, tanning ledge chairs, and etc. (currently they are out of the water). Do I do this in the pool, make a separate bucket of highly chlorinated water, or use some other chemical? 2) Should I target...

    Is this algae?

I have never done a SLAM. After brushing it takes 1-1.5 weeks for my algae to come back. Am I supposed to maintain SLAM levels for that length of time?

    Is this algae?

@Rancho Cost-a-Lotta and @Mdragger88, Thanks! On to my next question. How do I know how long to SLAM for if I'm already meeting all three of the criteria that says my SLAM can be over?

    Is this algae?

I posted another thread a week or so back stating that I was going to SLAM pool due to algae (See thread here). After much discussion and an OCLT which produced a result of 0.5ppm it was decided a SLAM might not be needed. On to this week... I see what I think is algae appearing, yesterday...

    Preparing for my first SLAM

@Newdude I appreciate all the help. At this point, I'm going to hold off on a SLAM and collect more results with daily chlorine and CYA tests and few OCLT tests. Hopefully I can get a good feel for what "normal" chlorine consumption is for my pool. Also, will watch out for possible algae.

    Preparing for my first SLAM

The thing that gets me about this is that the dirt/algae was only on the shaded areas of the pool. My CYA is all over the place because I wasn't doing the test right to begin with . I read this article yesterday on how to do it correctly and even did the CYA standard solution test with...
